Ashes I - 2013 - In England

Appears Woakes is actually going to bat at 6, which is probably smart seeing as Prior has barely scored a run this year.

I really like Faulkner, intrigued to see how his bowling translates to the longer format having only seen him in the shorter formats. Why does Starc keep playing and then get dropped?

I think Lehmann's been a bit shit so far. Moving Watson up and down the order, playing Agar for the first two tests, Starc in and out like a yo-yo, Hughes getting dropped on the back of a bad test despite his battling knock up at Trent Bridge. It's all aimless.

 he was waiting for thAt short ball.
What's up with the pitch? It's got fecking diagonal grooves in it!?

Looks like someone drove farming equipment over it.

What's he said about him?

  1. "Chris Woakes is a good cricketer but I don't see him bowling teams out, he's a one-day bowler. I look at people like Ian Botham who was a bowler first and foremost. Kapil Dev was the same."
  2. "I didn't see England's changes coming. I've seen Chris Woakes bowl before and, I'm sorry, he wouldn't trouble my mum."

Ball not doing anything now and the pitch looks nice and flat. Would have liked Broad to have had a few more overs before bringing Woakes on.

Oh dear

This is fecking shite to Watson, tbf, see ball hit ball stuff. Get a test quality bowler on from each end and build some pressure on him.

Looks like England felt sorry for the fact that Australia hadn't had a century at 3 for years and decided to make it as easy as possible for them.

These debuts have a touch of the Jimmy Ormond's about them, not saying they'll never play again just get carted around the Oval reminds me of that debut. I think he ended up bowling off-spin in the end

Woakes has looked impressive for Warwickshire, but it seems he isn't good enough for International cricket. Doubt he'll be chosen again in the near future.

58 runs off Kerrigan and Woakes in 7 overs.

Its players like Woakes that make my blood boil in tests, if you're an all-rounder get into the team on the merit of your batting or bowling, not because you aren't good enough at either. Madness to pick him as a 3rd seamer and a number 6.

He should either be in team because he bats well enough to be in the team, and at number 6 with Tremlett, or because he's a good enough bowler in which case he bats at 8 and you pick a batsman for 6.

If you have to play two spinners then you pick two spinners and two seamers. Not two seamers, two spinners and a nothing.

See Samit Patel for an 'all-rounder' I truly despise.

Definitely. Bresnan's there as bowler who can bat a bit, looks like they're trying to make Woakes out as a proper all-rounder. I wanted Tremlett to play today just to get him going before the away tests. I'm happy with Root as a back-up spinner, not very happy with all these dry pitches either, need some greener pitches for our seamers.
