Ashes I - 2013 - In England

To be honest all I'm thinking about from an England perspective is them not losing. They have no chance of winning this test.

Should be safe now anyway, the forecast for the rest of play is horrific. The Aussie's only hope was to quickly wrap up the last 3 wickets, make England follow on, then hope to bowl us out cheaply and quickly. No chance of a result now if the forecast is remotely correct.

I could just as easily say take away Clarke's score and you'd be utterly fecked, that sort of logic does you no good at all.

Except I didn't see Clarke giving any chances prior to 100...? When Pieterson was technically out. But anyway - whatever helps you sleep at night.

The way ghaliboy has gone on in this thread is as if he expected to bowl us for 150 or something :wenger: your in by far the best position to win the game.

 Yeah, fully I know mate totally I'm just all over England having feck all c-

Nah. All you have to do is look at Lyon taking 1 for lots and Swann taking 5 for lots and it tells you everything about our chances to bowl England out. Watching him just trot and clog around the wicket looking for an LBW really is mind boggling. No variety, no attacking pressure. It's just poor.

Our quicks with the new ball look dangerous but apart from that Starc letting pressure off and not being rapid enough, Siddle being pretty pedestrian we are going to struggle. But yeah totally we'll smash England in their second dig for sure. It's the only chance we have of winning this test.

It really depresses me listening to the difference between Shane Warne's aggressiveness and the passive defensive nature of all the former England captains.

Anomaly imo. He has one of the best cricket minds I've seen. He would have been captain if he wasn't so arrogant. But then again that is what made him such a good cricketer in the end.

Agreed. We will never go for the win. I think we need some rain intervention personally. Although tomorrow is forecast to rain the weathermen get it wrong time and time again.

Clarke's always talked about as an aggressive captain. Assuming Australia don't capitulate, and get bowled out for next to nothing, we'll see just how true that is.

When there is swing he gets out hunching over playing with that squared up inside out style.

Holding fecking genius. "Someone who represented and put in great performances for England.. And Nasser Husain.." brilliant!

Anderson bowling fruit. There is some in it for te bowlers. Surely you'd have to think Aus can get something. On paper with no weather of course.

Can someone dig up the stats for Anderson and Broad versus left handers and right handers?

Memory tells me that they're both much better against right handers. Anderson at least.

I really don't think England win is out of the question if the weather holds at this point in the game.

I think everyone knows what good cricketers Gary and Philip Neville were, Phil especially, so good to hear him being interviewed purely about cricket.

Fascinating interview again with Nev. Said how cricket being a sport where you can hear every voice in the crowd having a go at him helped to toughen him up for his football career in dealing with the crowd.

He played till u-16 or something, what kind of idiots sit in the crowd to have a go at teenagers?

England should play on with the game instead of complaining to the umpire.

I'm completely new to cricket, but I was convinced there was a white mark on the edge of the bat.

Wasn't that snicko faulty?

There was a clear gap between bat and ball, but it still showed on snicko.

Aus essentially 200-1, just can't see them a bunch of those wickets in quick succession. Probably need the rain

Unless Australia suddenly up the rate, I don't see them winning this. They seem more concerned with the thought of losing 5-0 than they are with getting back in to the series.

That's the problem when you've lost 6 tests in a row and I can't say I blame them too much
