Arthur Melo - Juventus's old number five

Don't trust those Juve fans, there were many happy to be rid of Kulusevski as well!

The Juve fans comments give me the jeepers even though Juve fans will actually be getting him back in 8 months if he's as awful as they say. They better pray he has a storming couple of months so we're 'fooled' into actually buying him. Duh!

Your Kulusevski comment gives me hope that Juve fans are as clueless as I suspect them to be. ;)

We were originally linked to Kulusevski before Spurs. A lot were saying he lacks athleticism and pace and would therefore would struggle in the EPL.

Ironically, we were also pretty close to getting Arthur on loan in January as well.

He plays for Spain but he is born in Italy, both of his parents are brazilian and he grew up with his mother in Brazil until he joined Barcelona's academy. He is also a brazilian national.

Fair enough. I guess his name is Portuguese now I think about it.

Do they really need him?

To me Jones and Elliott are more interesting footballers, they have a lot of ability. That's before we even get into the established bunch. I thought the latter really looked good at Old Trafford compared to teammates.

I know there's a few injuries knocking about and a couple can be a bit injury prone but it feels to me like there's enough there. Maybe I'm looking at it a bit superficially but I think if we had that sort of depth of options we'd be pretty happy.

If you were getting genuine quality it's different but this feels a bit Saul Niguez like.

Seems like your club are putting all of their hopes on signing Bellingham next summer. Saving money this year for a bigger move next season.
It’s a pretty dumb thing to do - we have players at peak ages who could all fall off at any point. Why waste their peak years? By next season there could be a new problem elsewhere. We also have more than enough money to buy a midfielder this window, we’re just refusing to. Spending 80 on Nunez doesn’t negate us having recouped most of that through sales.

It’s just such an odd and risk averse position to take. It’s a squad that’s world class but ageing and needs fresh injections of quality.

I think it’s more a lot of fans feel they’re not pushing the club to make the most of a world class manager.

Have you seen any of their performances this season?

No idea on his quality, but the options we have just lack availability.
Henderson Ox Thiago and Keita are injured. Jones keeps picking up injuries. Milner isn’t good enough to start and we can’t flog Fabinho three games a week.

We lack senior options in the middle. None of the first four are getting any less injury prone as they age either.

Yeah but that's without a few of the big boys that are going to return. Theres more than enough there. Quality and youth.

Sign a quality footballer to replace the aging players or don't bother. They're getting a Saul on deadline day from a Juventus happy to give him away for a year in my opinion. It feels panicky and unnecessary. Trust the young players to develop.

I think it’s very interesting transfer for Liverpool, I will see how he will adapt in EPL and how Klopp will use him.

What? He's shit?
He's one of the most press resistant players in the world. Limited passer, sure, but to have someone in your team who can keep the ball under pressure as well as him is invaluable.

I've watched pretty much every Juve game since he joined bar this season and not only have their performances been night and day when he's been in the team, their results have been, too. I don't think they lost a game he started in his first season, and maybe two or three last season. What he brings to a team makes that much of an impact.

Agree with this, he’s potentially a great signing, just injuries messing with his career so will be interesting to see if he can cope with klopps tactics

I should add that he is the son of Mazinho and brother of Rafinha both Brazil internationals.

He's a piss head party boy who's been kicked out of Barcelona and Juventus because he won't stop going out and getting caught drunk.

If he can stay fit and Klopp can get him to focus on football rather than off field distractions, this might turn out to be a good transfer. He showed a lot of potential early on at Barca, can't comment on his Juve career.

I’m sure you’ve rolled this line out about Casemiro when you called him lightweight? And the same line when you said Antony can’t dribble?

Do you have multiple screens set up to watch United, Juve, Real and Ajax games simultaneously whilst taking notes?

Dedication!

I'm convinced he's doing a bit at this point.

Can he pass a night club better than he can pass a football, hopefully not

This is, ultimately, the reason why his last two clubs couldn't wait to get rid of him

IF - big if - he actually acts profesionally which should go a long way towards simply making him available to play, he's actually not a bad player at all, just somewhat limited, but still useful. Very few players out there as good as him at simply not losing the ball, which might not sound like much but it's actually a really valuable skill

Sounds like Wijnaldum. When teams started defending deep Gini would offer less than nothing from a breakthrough perspective. In fact I'm sure teams let Gini have the ball more than any of our other players.

However, the shit our midfield is in with injuries even that sounds appealing.

I'm always amazed how utter nobody players who are really very average still manage to get super fans.

Gini was good at attacking the box from midfield, I am not sure Arthur can offer that.

Hes a good player to be honest. When hes not being a problem off the field and not being available

We could have done with a player like him. However, it is FDJ or bust for us it seems for that role.

If somebody can get the best out of him, can only be Klopp or Guardiola. If Klopp works his magic, he can turn him into a really good and effective player. A big if though.

 Exactly my thoughts when reading the post now. There's no way in hell anybody is watching every game of all of these teams unless they're working in some sort of analytics role (scouting, statistics website, betting websites etc). I don't imagine anybody, bar Juve fans, has sat through each of their games over the last year, especially to keep an eye on such an obscure player. I'd rather watch paint dry.

I don’t know what’s happened to that poster but it does feel he’s become a bit of a Billy Bullshitter. Not sure why.

Whats in it for Melo? Go to Liverpool for a year and then get dumped when Klopp spends 120m on Bellingham? Not exactly a great motivator.

A new environment to help stop his partying. Join the second best (or best?) manager in the world. Knock up a midfield partnership that could see him start world cup games in November instead of being the forgotten man. Kick off his career properly for a change where Bellingham will be his bench replacement.

A player looking terrible or average at Juve is an indication of nothing. But it sounds like a lot of Juve are beginning to realise that. Certainly on Zakaria, the consensus seems to be he wasn't given a fair chance in his preferred position. So he rarely played but when he did he played out of position? If that's the case, no wonder he's looked out of sorts there.

Zakaria has largely been injured otherwise I don't think that he has been particularly used out of position. The issue is that their team is a bit of a mess, the defense doesn't fit with the midfield which doesn't fit with the attackers, so everyone is forced or expected to do things that they are not good at. For the midfielders it's essentially progressing the ball, for the attackers it's creating width and for the defenders it was defending with a bit more authority.

Everyone suffered from the big deficiencies of the other units. They need a reboot and even though they have lost good players, these players weren't a good fit.

It's more a case of juventus being particularly cost-consciouss right now and not wanting to pay the wages of players they barely use because they're perennially injured(zakaria) or perennially drunk(arthur)

Vidal's heir

In Turin's nightclubs

That's also the reason why barca gave him away in the first place. He doesn't have a professional lifestyle. Permanent guest in night clubs, went once skiing before a clasico, risked an injury. That's why he also only had stamina for 60 minutes. He could have been a worldclass player, but his attitude to professional football stopped this. A shame.

Nah, all these players have no mentality, really, and they will win nothing if winning depends on them actively carrying their team forward. The day Kulusevski or any other dud (now leaving en mass a Juve that has been equally bad under three different coaches: Sarri, Pirlo, Allegri) will actively make his team winning a trophy, I will eat my hat. At best, you will find them acting as rotational players or third violin, which is not enough for winning the farmers’ Serie A, let alone for winning the mighty Premier League.

Kulusevski made you win the cup though?

Buah, pay attention to this: Arthur's easy-going attitude has Jürgen Klopp fed up, who doesn't want to count on him. Liverpool is already looking for a way to cut the transfer contract that it signed with Juve a few weeks ago :eek::eek:
