Arthur Melo - Juventus's old number five

He was coached by Allegri.. Klopp might just get a tune out of him. Don't believe he completely lost the talent he showed when he was brought to Europe.

He’s better at it than Arthur?

Arthurs a better metronome but you don’t need two on the pitch when you already have Thiago and Fabinho who’s a destroyer but can play as well.

Eliott fulfill the role of alleviating pressure as providing space for Thiago, also a player who he can bounce off as he has good technical ability, the difference between him and Arthur is that he can shoot and pass in terms of creating and splitting defences open to a far far higher level than Arthur who is very crab like in his usage of the ball.

So Elliott fits that third midfield role far better, having Arthur Fabinho and Thiago in one midfield makes it too sterile, even following the great Pep Barcelona template who provide the modern template for possession football, they had their third midfielder as Iniesta a penetrative dribbling maverick who was a 8/10 and even Xavi the midfielder who Arthur was compared to his early career for all his great possession play was a midfielder capable of getting 20 assists in a season.

But we’re talking about Brazilian templates if they have a full midfield, and Firminho at point. Flanks then do far more work in an offensive capacity.

I find it curious to not complete the ’set’ if you have the pieces in place to make it so, but I’ve no idea how good/bad Elliot is or if he’d be of the level to outright supplant an Arthur in an extremely ball retentive midfield.

That is all good, but Thiago is Spanish.

Also, by the sounds of it, Artur isn't even very good at retaining the ball.

He plays for Spain but he is born in Italy, both of his parents are brazilian and he grew up with his mother in Brazil until he joined Barcelona's academy. He is also a brazilian national.

Going to Liverpool on loan

I used to haunt Juve forums when CR7 was playing for them. The common consensus is that he is an awful purchase. He was supposed to be the next great DLP like Pirlo. Instead he has performed worse in his career than United’s Anderson. Very surprised Klopp would even consider him.

Both Barca and now Juve have been happy to him go. Juve on loan on deadline day.

Odd one from Liverpool. Surely the move for Douglas Luiz from their old mate would have been better?

Arthur's the guy that alleviates pressure and provides space for Thiago to do something more with the ball after a few combination passes
He has shown nothing like this at Juve. He is very slow, may even be overweight and has both disciplinary and fitness issues. Ideal signing for your opponent.

I’ve not followed him at all since he went to Italy - would seem a bizarre signing then, unless Klopp believes he can turn him around.

Probably been our best player this season. Make of that what you will.

I thought he looked fantastic in the games I watched and was surprised noone really picked up on it. Has fantastic dribbling ability and seems to always make the right decision.

Doesn't really have the killer pass / finish but he seems ready to play.

If you had a big game and all your midfielders fit, would he start?

I think Klopp might go with Henderson because of experience but Fabinho - Thiago - Eliott seems like a pretty strong midfield with complementary skillsets.

Yes, at least I think so, alongside Fabinho and Thiago. He came in as a highly touted youth prospect and impressed during his spell with Blackburn in the championship. He got a bad injury early last season and fell off the radar a bit but people are starting to take notice of him again with how he’s been playing recently.

Bit of a gamble, but Klopp has a tendency to get a tune out of his players, so I guess he backs himself to do it here. I guess a no obligation loan is worth a punt.

Cheers. I’ll have to look out for him. I tend not to watch your games unless there’s a chance of you losing.

best schedule your biweekly LFC watch sessions then because we’re fecking shit at the minute:lol:

Arthur actually looked class for Barcelona, I think maybe under Klopp he'll look like a very good player.

Worth a gamble for Liverpool, on loan maybe with an option to buy is perfect for them. He could be a huge upgrade on the likes of an aging Milner. I wouldn't laugh this one off.

I remember being bemused over the Pjanic swap deal with him, really was looking like a real asset for Barca in the midfield post Xavi at the time.

(There was a stint where Puig looked great too) now there's Gavi, and Pedri so I guess they know what's coming through the academy and weren't afraid to sell.

I remember an old thread on here during his first couple of seasons at Barca, everyone thought he was amazing.

It's strange when the arse drops out of someone so young.

I think he looked good initially but he faded. It’s fair to say he’s been a disappointment at Barca and Juve.

If this was us, we’d be getting absolutely criticised and ridiculed by the media.

Juventuz popping the champagne.

Arsenal should still interested in him after Elneny injury. They in panic mode ask for Paredes and Danilo. Why dont we offer them Arthur
arsenal are smarter than that, they've had one of the most impressive window out of the English sides imo
Arsenal to lose tonight and panic buy this guy last second :xfingers:
Can already picture the posts throughout the season when he plays l mao.
Hes off to Liverpool???
fecking brilliant  there was me talking to a Liverpool friend asking if he was interested in arthur or rabiot by any chance given their lack of midfield options
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I can’t wait to see this man in a Klopp geggenpressing team. He will be out of breath by the 3rd minute. That’s if he’s even not injured before the game starts. Absolutely out of nowhere. Liverpool must be absolutely desperate.
Liverpool? How?
Thank you Klopp and Liverpool
LFC fans see him as Fabinho replacement HAHA
I keep seeing the word "medical" and I`m worried those guys would probably want to examine and check him and they will inevitably find out that he is not an athlete and kick him back to Turin...

There was a Juve fan on here around the time we was linked with Rabiot begging us to take Arthur because he’s that bad. Not seen enough games to personally judge but.

I think he is universally rated as the best performer for Liverpool so far this season. If he only had a bit of more pace to make that break from midfield he would be hailed as the new maestro for the English midfield. The kid has a lot going for him

Don't trust those Juve fans, there were many happy to be rid of Kulusevski as well!

If he only had a bit of more pace to make that break from midfield

you could see this for the firmino goal. When he received the ball and started breaking he was easily caught by two Newcastle players, necessitating his excellent pass to Salah.

there have been general concerns about his athleticism, but he’s actually agile and quite strong. As you say, it’s speed he’s really lacking.

We entered the season with a midfield comprised by a majority of ageing or injury prone or ageing and injury prone players. Then they got injured (Jones, Thiago, Ox, Keita) or played like shit (Henderson and Milner). Literally everyone could see this coming but failure to invest in a stubborn desire to find only the 100% ‘right’ player has left us severely short staffed and relying on the brilliance of our two youngest senior players to hold things together in front of a Fabinho who’s had his own issues with form to start the season. And Henderson is also injured now.

it just feels like mismanagement for a lot of us.

Yeah his strength and work rate is as good as any for his age. Add to that his quality on the ball. I agree he is a very good player but just someone I feel could lose out to say Bellingham for both Liverpool ( if he joins) and England in the future for that bit he is lacking

Not been the best for them so far has it? Blew £85m on Nunez who looks nothing like that calibre of player and subsequently left themselves with no more money to strengthen anywhere else.

The overpay for him has cost them signing another premium quality/high potential CM so now they are scrambling around to sign Arthur on loan.
