Arthur Melo - Juventus's old number five

So, after coming back into the squad after being dropped completely for two games, he's been dropped completely again.

Whilst on international duty - facing Argentina - he seemed to exchange words with Messi after Messi got annoyed at him for asking the referee to book Rodrigo. I wonder if that played a part in the decision to omit him from the squad?
I dont think it has anything to do with Messi. The problem is he became best friends with Neymar..

Really rate him. Doubt Barca would sell. If they replace Busquets with someone like Kante ( just an example) to provide more legs and cover to their midfield, they’d have if sorted for a while with Arthur & Frenkie there.

They already have a Busquets replacement in De Jong.

Yeah, I don't think it had anything to do with said incident. I just thought it was odd that he was finally brought back into the team, that happened, and he was dropped again. I think he'll play against Dortmund, for what it's worth.

So is this guy actually any good or not?
I think he's very good. He'd be my first choice CM signing even though I don't personally think he's one of the best out there just because I love how he turns away from pressure.

He has flaws, though. His stamina is poor, his passing range is underwhelming, and he, like Pogba, can lack effort in the defensive phase of the game. However, in my opinion, his strengths more than make up for that.

Well, I was wrong there! The theory that he was left out of their previous squad completely so that he's rested for Dortmund turned out to be off as he didn't play a single minute.

If Valverde sticks around, it seems like it wouldn't be far-fetched to imagine that Barca would be open to offers.

Some of the Barca fans I know in real life are disapointed with him.
- Apparently he's been chubby on more than one occasion
- Apparently some senior players have expressed concern in dressing room
- According to Transfermarkt, he's missed 48 games through injury this season thus far

What do the Barca/Brazilian fans on here make of him? Do you see him becoming an undisputable starter both now and the forseeable future? Is there a campaign to damage his reputation? Do you believe the reports concerning his professionalism are conjecture? Would you consider him one of the most professional players at Barca? If you do believe there's some substance to his [lackof]professionalism, would you say his ability makes you not concerned in the slightest?

Hope they sell him. Great player

Seems it's only a matter of time before he leaves. Barca want rid.

He has a lot of issues on and off the pitch, but I love watching him play. So, even though it won't happen, I'd love it if we were in the race for him.

I'm a huge fan of him and never understood why Valverde didn't use him that much but as of now it seems he's the one blocking his way to the top, no coach or anything like that.

Really disappointing since he's one of the greatest midfield talents around. Generally has everything to become a legit successor to Iniesta and Xavi. Perfect fit for Barca if he had more discipline.

Great player, and his departure will further weaken Barca's midfield.

Hefty fee though.

But why the hell donthey want Pjanic? Great player, but another midfielder in his 30s?

Have no idea what they're doing. Seema completely short term oriented

Weren’t Juventus offering their deadwood for Paul Pogba not so long ago, where’s this money appeared from

It's probably dependant on Juve and Barca agreeing terms for Pjanić. Less money will actually swap hands.

Wouldn't surprise me - milk as much titles as possible out of Messi's last few years and then completely start the rebuild.

Interesting, seems an odd swap to me. Pjanic is how old? And Arthur seemingly wants to stay put.

I bet Messi will be happy, having to up his game to compete alongside Juve rejects, what a feckin send off.

I'd jump ship as well if I were him. Could secure a super duper pay day in his last contract somewhere.

This is definitely some dodgy deal, I reckon. Expect Pjanic to end up at Barca for a similar sort of fee.

They did something like that with Neto and Cillissen last season.

Further emphaises my point that we won't see any deflation in the top end of the market.
Yeah agree with this. I thought as much as well and posted about it, the big boys will try to keep ground and bridge gaps where they can this window and if the pandemic blows over by next season or shortly after it will be business as usual.

I can't see this being a swap deal involving Pjanic though if Juve are spending that much in cash.

Barca have a really weird transfer policy with players last 5 years.

I presume they're getting Pjanic in the deal so very's good but he is 30 so 2-3 good years and he'll need to be replaced like Rakitic, Griezmann, Suarez, Pigue, Alba..........and Messi.

Are they banking on La Masia hitting jackpot again around 2023? Feels to me like they really need to sort themselves out with sporting director as this sort of policy will massively weaken them in the post Messi era.

Not surprised. Saw this coming months ago.

I don't think it's bad for Barca either. Arthur has A LOT of flaws. Both on and off the pitch. Still, I wish we were in for him regardless.

Considering his flaws, I've said I don't think it's a bad deal for Barca and, after reading a Barca forum, it seems the majority are fine with the transfer as well. They're just hoping for someone younger than Pjanic.

I don't think he's what Juve need, though. They need a creative CM and Arthur plays it as safe as possible with his passing.

No way.. he is not worth £72m

Yeah, a bit too much when you consider his flaws and the fact that he didn't live up to their hopes so they want rid ASAP. I mean, Arthur is desperate to stay going off reports so it shows you how much they want to w
sell him.
