Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Midweek premier league matches, what a pleasant surprise.

Going to be a very interesting game. Will show how pragmatic Amorim can be.

I imagine his pragmatism is what ended up in his win against city, am I wrong?

Corners like other said will be a possible problem but mazrouhi and Shaw dealing with Saka is a huge part of it.

Going to be a great game

This game will show us alot about Amorim. His first few games, whilst we have won and shown some good moments, has some major flaws in the system.

With respects tot he City game, even though it was pragmatic, City were all over Sporting in the first half and should have scored 3/4 goals.

That was a fully drilled Sporting team that cut City in the second half on the counter, look what happened when they couldn't counter V Arsenal and lost 5-2.

If we play like we did in our first 3 games, I can see us holding 3/4 goals or more against Arsenal. Ipswich game, our midfield was poor, kept getting in behind, Bodo was complete performance IMO and Everton in first half, they had a lot of joy behind Mainoo and Casemiro.

Arsenal are one of the best at playing out the back and dissect a press and play around it.

I am really worried about Odegard Saka link up on the right, where we are quite vunerable.

I've a feeling he will not start Amad here and will play Mazraoui as the RWB. Would be the more pragmatic approach and would keep Amad fresh for our game vs Nottingham at the weekend.

He mentioned on Sunday after the game that Amad's gametime needs to be managed as it will maximise his physical capabilities.

Obv I’d like us to win, but I’m not expecting it. If we do lose then I hope we put up a fight, show some discipline and tenacity when out of possession, and gives us positives to work on. If we get turned over because we didn’t show up then that’s going to raise a lot of questions over the players’ desire and Amorim’s tactics.

It’s not rocket science. We’re still a mixed bag with a long road ahead, up against a team returning to form with their most influential attacker back.

Then what is it about ?

You and I don't see the role Odegaard plays in leasing their press. We don't know the intricacies enough, in any case we don't know what the actual instructions are. We do know that he is crucial to their press.

It is not a coincidence that they have started scoring goals since Oregon has come back. He is the conductor for their attacking play. Bruno is our conductor similarly, but quite often people prefer Odegaard as he is smoother, consistent, does not give the ball away.

Then what is it about ?
He runs their game, its why they can have so much control over matches in posession. Ironically exactly what we miss in our midfield. Iniesta also didnt get as many goals or assists as Bruno Fernandes, I know whos the better player between them too.

Its also true even for people who are Bruno stans that you have to admit he hasn’t even been at his best for about 2 years.

Bruno is an excellent player. He has not come close to running an attack which competes for the PL

expectations are to dominate part of the game at least.

for it to be tight enough

for us to compete well and not play on break solely

yea the improvement in players like Saka is evident when Odegard plays also

    Shaw apparently injured.

De Ligt Maguire Maz the back three? Or does Maguire go back in the team? Yoro Debut?

A draw would be a great result for us.

I'd definitely take a draw if offered and go home slapping my thigh like a thief in the night.

However...we live to experience the drama of football and if there is something building up within the squad, a belief in their ability to compete with the best sides on the planet, then rather than sitting back and waiting for a set piece chance why not take it to Arsenal, come what may?

FFS! I wasn’t that arsed about Martinez missing this one as Shaw would’ve slotted in there nicely, should’ve known better. Evans looked very shaky against Ipswich in a back 3, might be big Harold that’s called upon for this one.

I think bruno in the Bodo glint game showed much more control of the ball and kept his passing numbers high.
Bruno can play that way I have no doubt about it.

Saying bruno has not come close to running an attack which competes for the title is just stupid because it's who he has in attack for last two years
    Rashy
    Martial
    Antony
    Wout weghorst
    A young hoijlund and garnacho

He also played with midfielder who aren't great technically or don't ever help him in controlling the midfield like
    Mctominay
    Casemiro
    Amarabat
    Fred

Odegaard has two mids behind him who are technical and provide stability . It becomes easy for him to link up and control the midfield.

Add bruno to the arsenal mid and he will will improve them.
Add Odegaard to United mid and he might also struggle as our whole system itself was weak.

Saka runs Arsenal's games much more than Odegaard does. And the Norwegian is better-equppied for the #8 position than Bruno, but as number 10s, Bruno is superior.

When you say it isn't about stats, well it isn't about aesthetics either. I want my 10 to be creative and world class in the final third, not to have sexy looking body feints and "controlled creativity" like De Bruyne said about Odegaard. Just pre-planned pattern moves within Arsenal's system and a good passing range, but he isn't creative in the way Bruno and KDB are.

If Evans plays he needs to start centrally, otherwise it will be more of what we saw v Ipswich

I do wonder if there will be a surprised inclusion?

I’d love to see Antony at LWB as opposed to Dalot, his left foot will be very useful to help our build up from the back and keep hold of the ball better against the Arsenal press IMO.

He'll probably throw another tantrum if he’s asked to play there but that’s the only postion I see him being able to nail down before next season and then surely he’s a gonner

To be fair it’s a lot more attacking than LB under ETH, and I’d doubt he’d complain under the new management if he really wants to succeed here / find a buyer for him.

    Kunkoni?

I guess we'll see Dalot LCB with Antony/Garnacho and Amad as the two wing-backs?

I'm not sure what other choice Amorim could go with.

I think Yoro, De Ligt and Mazraoui with Maz moving to the left side makes the most sense. Yoro probably won't last the full 90 but Dalot/Malacia/Evans can fill in late on. If he's not fit then yeah I guess it'll have to be Dalot.
