Arsenal 22/23 - go to new thread

That is quality!

They weren’t paying attention to a single word he was saying. They were just trying to focus not bursting out in laughter!
Joel is rattled. Proper heads gone situation.

I think it'll be close too, probably with them pipping us. Even though we're having a dip in form and on a bad run ATM, we still aren't being thrashed. Our level has dropped which was inevitable but our performances haven't been that bad. We lost narrowly vs City in the Cup and Everton, and should have won vs Brentford. Tonight is the only game in this poor run where I think the opposition was considerably better overall. We just couldn't raise our level in the second half.

I think Everton was the game where you were clearly deserving of a loss.

Play a Sunday game, then Wednesday, and then a Saturday match that is 3 games is less than a week.

Our pattern has pretty much been like that compared to your matches and yous being tired apparently
The “3 games a week” thing is a bit flawed. It’s really averaging out to 2 games a week.

Yes you can play Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday. But then the week after you’d just play 1 game midweek before a Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday sequence again.

He’s been giving it big last few weeks. Proper smug like they were going to walk the league. Arsenal fans never learn.
They’re all the same. No idea where they get all their arrogance. Stay humble.

The story about Arsenal being 'best' yesterday is hogwash.
They had only 1 shot on target, which was penalty.
From minute 23-88 Arsenal had 0.00 Xg.

Odergaard had the same number of touches as their goalkeeper. 39 touches.
To be confirmed, (I've seen it on Twitter) --- Odergaard touched the ball only 9 times in the second half.
Odergaard lost all the 6 duels he had. 0/6.

Their 3 man midfield had 16 duels, they won only 3 of the 16 duels.
Yet Bernado was a left back.
Odergaard had the second last ratings, after Tomiyasu. Who is last because of the error.

City hit the crossbar, had a penalty ruled out by VAR and had a goal line clearance after scoring 3 goals. That would have been 6 goals.

They had the possession like in the days of Wenger but toothless. True to it, City have been beaten away by United Spurs Liverpool.

In Etihad, Arsenal will be blown away like the 6-3 to United.

City didn't play well, had a ridic penalty given against them and still won.

They're far superior to the rest of the league.

Pep really is a guy on his own level. No manager in the world would have played 3 at the back with no proper wing backs against Saka and Martinelli. The way he used Bernardo to drop in at left back and then move to midfield in possession was brilliant.

They did the same mental gymnastics when we beat them earlier in the season, mostly because of that Martinelli goal that was disallowed. It doesn't help when Sky Sports run articles like that one yesterday, where they 'analysed' all the points they'd have if VAR wasn't so against them.

They've always been overly obnoxious. Never has a fanbase not deserved the great players and success that it has at times enjoyed.

Henry on the pitch, but forever a Keown in the stands.

Henry said it very well, especially in BIG games,

The easiest way to know you've played better, is individually everyone wins his own battle.

In Arsenal case,.

1. It's striking had 1 shot on target.
2. Midfield lost 13 duels out of 16.
3. Defence gave out 5 genuine chances. 3 goals + crossbar and goal line clearance.
4. Keeper leaked 3 goals.

Bernado was a left back, yet Arsenal did nothing to capitalize.

How comes Arsenal were better yet no Arsenal single player won his own personal battle. Even Saka didn't trouble Bernado.

That's still only two games a week, unless you define 'week' as any given 7-day period.

I'll log off later when the fun really begins, as I get frustrated reading certain posts as well. :wenger:

Don't expect anything less mate. I used to just read here for views etc and joined a couple of years back when we were poor to give a different argument to that of many that thought we should bin Arteta. Found that in general you can have a good discussion with most posters, all while bearing in mind it is a Utd forum so it's obviously going to be biased.

Think you are right about both teams, unfortunately I was always of the opinion that it was probably a season too soon for us, but ultimately things fall into place a bit and at the same time you want to ride that wave and enjoy the experience. The fact you are where you are in ETH first season is a great credit to him.
Once you become an Oil State Club ;), the sky really is the limit for you guys over the next few seasons. Of course, then I can just dismiss it as oil clubs wins are more meaningless, that's why many wanted City to win the league, right? :p
I prefer you to win the league as you are a proper club. But obviously, I can’t say the same about Liverpool even if they are a big club and a bigger rival with more titles.

I understand some dancing on Arsenal's grave but they outplayed City for large parts of that game especially in the first half. City ended that game with 35% possession. I know in the end, it doesn't matter but there was enough to show Arsnal can compete.
Going toe toe with those cheaters is good work, they have to be respected here.

I don’t think showing that they can compete is now the purpose of Arsenals season. When you have a 5/8 point lead you’re in it to make sure you win it.

Also in a league of their own when it comes to resources and we’ll run club. They’re the only club that can have a talent like Foden playing poorly and it not mattering. Cheat FC indeed.

Missing a top CF big time, same as United I guess. Not sure how Jesus will help when he comes back, because he's probably less of a threat in the box than Nketiah, despite his all round play being far superior.

When you're overly reliant for goals on the likes of Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard for goals, it's always going to be tough as they're very good players, but also young. Arsenal unfortunate that they've all come off the boil at the same time.

If Arsenal come out of this season with no silverware to show, it would be a complete disaster for them. You have to feel United, Chelsea, Newcastle are going to strengthen in the summer. City probably as well, and maybe Liverpool will come back stronger. Arsenal will have to contend with the demands of CL football next season too.

The stars have aligned for them this season in that they've played brilliant stuff, but a combo of other teams being off it and relatively lucky with injuries too.

I think City will win it from here.

Spoiler: it really really fecking wouldn't.

It's not really flawed, you literally talking a day her and there between 3 in 7 days, or 3 in 8 days,

It's still way more games that that arsenal are playing because of the mid week games.

It shouldn't be, but it would be. Expectations are a very dangerous thing for people who don't know how to manage them. A lot of people dont.

Time will tell whether this season ends up being a big step forward for a young, promising team, or a great chance for a title that they might not see again. For me, its th former

I agree and didn't mean to suggest otherwise. But my point was that even though we were clearly the inferior side, it was still a fairly tight game. We are harder to beat these days and don't roll over like we used to.

Mini Pep having a bit of a meltdown now....the excuses are starting

Mikel Arteta has called on the Premier League to scrap the scheduling that sees teams play on Wednesday and in the early fixture on Saturday.

The early Saturday kick-off time -- created for television broadcasters -- has long been a source of frustration for managers with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp one of the most outspoken critics of having to play at that time after a Wednesday night match.

At a Premier League meeting in May 2021, the clubs voted to remove the Wednesday-Saturday early game for any team playing away in Champions League.

However, the rule does not apply to domestic football or home European games, meaning Arsenal will kick-off at Aston Villa on Saturday just 63 hours after losing to Manchester City in midweek.

"They put the schedule the way they did," Arteta said. "It's a bit unusual, but it's what it is. There are certain rules with the Champions League.

"When you are playing on Wednesday night [away] and then you cannot play [in the early game on Saturday]. So I think that should apply to any competition.

"I think that is why one of the changes was made towards the Champions League teams, especially.

"But I think following the same principle, I think you are talking physiologically, that is very difficult to turnaround on that period to get the best outcome and reduce the injury risk for players, but that's it. We knew we were going to play at that time. That's not an excuse."

Emile Smith Rowe could be included in the squad as he is due to train later on Friday following a thigh problem but Thomas Partey remains a doubt with a muscular issue having missed the 3-1 defeat to City.

Arteta insisted that his young squad are equipped to handle the pressure of a title race despite being knocked off the top by City for the first time since Nov. 5.

"If you want to be at the top, you have to [cope with pressure]," he said. "Looking at what they did the other day gives me a lot of encouragement to think that they are ready."

I've said on here ever since Arsenal were something ridiculous like 12 points clear at one stage that they'd blow it.

I'm surprised more people didn't think the same. There's something off about their mentality. It's all sunshine when they're winning but it turns stormy, cruel and cold the second things don't go their way

Surprises me that Arsenal fans were getting so cocky and complacent too, they've got plenty of lived experience of Arsenal cocking up over the last 10-15 years. Same way I would stay cautious if United were top of the table

b/c that is what arsenal does.....they love to build themselves up so the rest of us can be entertained when watching them train wreck crash back down to earth

it's a brilliant cycle

If we finished ahead of them it would be hilarious. Arteta bitching about playing 2 games in a week is hilarious. Didn't hear his sympathy for us when he beat us in the final minutes

What a manager. They finally play 2 games a week and he starts to moan.

Compare that to Ten Hag, a little moan recently but in most instances he is like, my players want to play.

I dont get why managers complain so much, every team that is going for major honours will play these many games, its up to you as a manager to use your squad.

If you don't like it, get knocked out in every competition early and you will have 1 game a week in the PL.

You class that as a meltdown?

You class that as a meltdown?

that's why i said a bit of a meltdown.....the first time you've had to face a bit of adversity wiht negative results and now the fixture list, he comes out whining. Pressure gets to him.

Lucky win but a win is a win and a much needed one. I still don't see them as some special side. Much improved defenitely but still a lot of naivety in their play.

Well, that's the luck balanced out. I sincerely hope we don't have to suffer Keown on MOTD tonight telling us how great they were this afternoon.

They’re not as good as they were before the World Cup and playing that XI everyone knows they’ll play for most of the season means everyones starting to institute more meaningful countermeasures to stop them, such as Saka and Martinelli getting double marked.

They need some quality depth in the summer with the likelihood of Champions League football for them next season, because they will absolutely need to make use of them if they’re not going to be running on fumes by January 2024.

Why I've always been "one game at a time" and not really confident of our chances of winning it. Our squad is too thin. We have a great first 11 but Partey's absence today was very obvious. Really left our defence exposed, Villa ran straight through us at times. No wonder there are rumours of us going big for midfielders in the summer (Rice/Moseido) as I think Xhaka/Partey are probably on their last legs.

They should really be winning their next 5 or 6 games, March is a favourable month for them.

Then they have a tricky period where they have to play City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle in a short space of time.
