Arsenal - 2024/25

They’ve lost their way massively. However, they did look lost at sea about a year ago and then went on an incredible run.

Jesus' injury could be a blessing for Arsenal. Currently no Saka, no Jesus, no Nwaneri. They need a ST and a winger, ideally someone who can play both on left and right flank. They get one or both of these positions and it improves their attack and the whole atmosphere around the team. Then title can be on and they may even have a chance in 2nd leg at Newcastle.

Even before the penalty shootout, it was a bad day for them with missing chances, being frustrated by 10 men for an hour and more players getting injured.

Arteta will be under pressure to turn around that Newcastle tie.

Pressure? Most of their fans think they are out of it. 2 years in a row, they haven't scored a goal at Newcastle away, and now they have to score 3? With this attack? I don't see it happening, unless they get an early red card, and 2 penalties.

It’s unlikely but you never know. That game’s on February 5th. They sign a striker, get into bit of form, Newcastle get out of it or 1-2 key players get injured… They’re not out yet as difficult as it’ll be.

I love the way we beat them - beating them with 10 is more satisfying than beating them with 11

I would have been curious to see though what would happened if Dalot wasnt't sent off. They created Zero chances in 11 vs 11 and we were starting to get more in control. I wouldn't have been surprised if we beat them 2-0 or 3-0 without them registering any shots on target if it continued 11 v 11.

Horrible team, absolutely horrible. They have that holier than thou thing about them while being cheats and snide cnuts. Not to mention taking absolute forever to make a set piece.

Oh and Odegaard has a punchable face if I ever saw one.

Rather Liverpool than them. Absolutely shower of shit this club.

I think signing a couple of forwards is more about staving off the competition for top 4 than it is about competing for the title. Liverpool are 6 clear, have a game in hand, a superior goal difference and much better forwards than Arsenal. No way Arsenal claw that back when Salah's in the form he's in and Saka is out for either the majority or entirety of the rest of this season.

Yeah we ain't catching Liverpool, not with our form and injuries. Touched on it in the Arteta thread, but think the Arteta 'project' is at a major crossroads again, for the first time in a few years we are right to question him, & the club really, there seems to be a sense that this could unravel kind of quickly if this isn't addressed.

A lot of it is stems from the summer window. When you finish with 89 points, and talk was of needing that spark up front in tight games like the Bayern game, or the Newcastle, Villa, Fulham games of last season, to show your competitors your intent and you mean business, to end up with Sterling on loan is shocking.

Who's to blame, i don't know. But we've lost our CEO, we've lost our Sporting Director, and not really replaced either yet. Why did they leave? How engaged are the Kronke's, i'm hearing Arteta saying from the end of the last transfer window we are short, so are they not backing him as much, are they questioning the transfer business done so far?

It all kind of feels on a knife edge just now, we need someone to step up and show some leadership, but we are without leaders, it feels as if Josh Kroenke needs to step up and show some clarity.

And that's without discussing what's happening on the pitch. The poor finishing, the lack of chance creation, the slow build up, the taking an age for each set piece. Winning games can sort of mask it, but even then we could still all see it. Can't question anyone but Arteta about that.

feck these cnuts, also lack of Gooners in football forum since the recent meltdown has been hilarious to see

Arteta is ruining the Arsenal legacy. A team known for playing great entertaining football has now become a team of cheats.

A team that plays for set pieces, take 2/3 minutes preparing for the set piece with a board meeting everytime they get a set piece.

They had a 6 player meeting for a direct freekick that Odegard fired over.

So are arsenal fans still happy to get sent packing out the cups because it’s all about the league?
Of course. This year it has nothing to do with not caring about the cup. We have injuries and are playing shit.
Even if we won yesterday, the situation would be the same, we need attacking signings and some voodoo magic to heal Saka.
If everyone was fit and we played like the previous 2 seasons, i'd be fine with binning the cup runs and focusing on catching Liverpool and having a go at the CL.

We kept saying our squad was young and not deep enough in attack when we were flying. We get injuries, bench players can't step up, the way we play is massively impacted and we get "haha you're shit" "Arteta out".

The time wasting before each set piece is really tedious. I've seen and heard it mentioned in articles and podcasts a few times since yesterday, so it looks like it's a widespread feeling. Obviously Jover has done great work with their set pieces (even though a lot of it amounts to impeding opposition players and especially the goalkeeper and hoping it doesn't get sanctioned), but the fact they've made this the crux of their gameplan, the pauses, just make it really tedious.

Its a shame that a team going for the title is resorting to such tactics. Normally, you would assume that having great set pieces is just another trick to the armory, but for Arsenal it is their main weapon. Its almost the crowd get excited when they get a set piece, the players all huddle around having a COBRA meeting, then the taker delays taking it.

Whilst they have done good work with them, I feel they are now milking it, by making it dramatical now.

if you are relying purely on set pieces to beat a 13th place team at home, its embarassing.

My mate said yesterday that they have a mural of their set piece coach and I assumed he was taking the piss. It gave me a good laugh in an otherwise tense 2 hours.

I think I dislike them more than Liverpool
As a Liverpool fan. I hate them more than United and Everton. I dislike United and Everton cos Im meant to but I still respect them. Arsenal I absolutely loathe. Despicable Club.

Yep, apparently I can only go by what I have heard, they have one with Havertz and his dog?

They've lost the spark they had a couple of seasons back. I wouldn't even describe it as poor form, its more that they've changed from being a fairly fluid attacking team to one that's more functional. I think this is intentional, as evidenced by their focus on midfielders and defenders rather than attackers in the last transfer window. But if the plan was to try and grind their way to a title, its not working. Its come at the expense of the ability to have attacking talent decide games in key moments.

I don't really agree with the idea that Arteta needs to go though. This team has fallen short but he's earned himself the chance to rebuild it.

I agree that Liverpool are big favourites even if Arsenal strengthen. However, Liverpool while being better than others don't look unbeatable. Imagine if Salah gets injured for them like Saka did for Arsenal and suddenly they aren't that good. Most probably won't happen but Arsenal have to go in the market and get at least a striker to have a chance. They're down mentally atm and Arteta has to lift the atmosphere for them to beat Spurs and stay in the race. Yes they lost last 2 games but with better finishing could've been different outcome so can't let their season fall apart this early. Last season they lost couple of games towards New Year and got knocked out of the Fa Cup. After that they went on a great run and basically title wasn't decided until last day of the season. I know they looked better then than now but still...

It's possible that Liverpool maybe have a little bit of a wobble but I think they've built up enough of a barrier that they'd be able to survive that. I also think they've got a bit more to them in attack than just Salah. While he's obviously their best attacker, they don't feel quite as reliant on him to function as Arsenal do with Saka.

I'm not convinced Arsenal will be able to sign the players they need to turn their fortunes around in January. It's almost halfway through the window and there's barely even been a link of substance yet. They look almost incapable of scoring at the moment and their goalscoring output in general has regressed this season outside of set pieces.

They drew to Brighton, were beaten comprehensively at home by Newcastle and couldn't put us away despite having a man advantage for an hour of that game (and a penalty in normal time). Maybe you're hoping Liverpool don't win the league, which is fair enough, but there's not much evidence to suggest they won't right now.

All clear but my point is while it doesn't look likely, it's not done yet if they sign a striker. Signing Bruno in January 2020 changed whole season for us. If they get someone, they may fail to win a title. If they don't get anyone, they'll fail surely.
