Arsenal - 2024/25

I saw we have the most goals this season and the best defence (after Liverpool). Despite our horrible scoring issues. I do think that scoring stat is probably also flattered by a few thrashing we've given teams. Our defence has let in less than a goal a game but our scoring issues are plaguing us.

Liverpool will drop points, all their away games are pretty tough but honestly for me its the same for us as we struggle to score. I also feel its confidence issue as we are making chances but now even Odegaard is missing sitters from 6 yards. If the club have real ambition then they will sign a striker this January. Otherwise we can forget doing well in the CL too, where games are so tight you just need one chance to score.
I would love them to go out and get that striker, but that is extremely unlikely to happen. Hearing what the bosses say, there appears to be little wiggle room under PSR as well unless we have a hotel to sell. Zubi would be a good buy I feel. Was never sure about Merino. He is ok...but it's not what we need I think.

Odegaard really needed that goal. He did a little better yesterday, but it's been difficult to praise him as of late.

Impressed with Tierney getting in there and doing his job. I really did like him. Shame about all the injuries.

KT is a champ, gets on without a serious fuss. Was instrumental along with Saka and ESR in helping Arteta keep his job in his first full season.

That one grounded cross across the box to Ode for his chance was better than any pass our wingers produced all game. And as much as I like MLS, he's still not shown anything of note in the final third. We need to buy well there next season.

Sesko will be such a good buy for them I think..

Lets wait and see if it's true first, all just rumours at this stage.

We seem to be getting a lot of stick at the moment, a lot of it justified, but as with anything else there's a fair bit of hyperbole in there as well.

I, & many Arsenal fans don't like some of the stuff we are seeing at the moment, i hate the diving by Havertz, the over reliance on set pieces currently, the lack of fluidity currently, the lack of finishing in general.

However, it's not the black picture that many, including some Arsenal fans, want to paint. We are still controlling games, our ball winning and off the ball stuff in general is still good, we can still generate chances in most games. We certainly aren't perfect, we need better quality in the top end, we need tweaking tactically, we need our injured players back, but we are still a good team that's 2nd in the league, & 3rd in Champions League.

I think sometimes we all as fans live in the moment too much and can let a bad week or 2 really affect our perception, & sometimes it's better to step back, think about the context of things and look at the bigger picture.

When they were supposedly challenging 115 the last 2 seasons did anyone genuinely believe they would win the title?

I work with an Arsenal fan and I was so confident that they’d bottle it both times I bet $100 and gave him 3:1 odds on it. Easiest money I ever made.

I did actually. I took on a £100 bet with @OverratedOpinion that they’d win the title last season.

I would be surprised Seslo cones in this transfer window....unless it is maybe a deal like Raya's.

We desperately need a striker. The overall play vs Spurs was more positive yesterday. We really should have put some of those chances away but at least we were creating more.

I am tired too of the shithousary this year....a little is fine but it's quite ugly at times. And most importantly, judging from the table, it isn't helping.

You can see an outfield player going near the touchline or usually Saliba/Gabriel turning to get instructions from the coaches.Doubling down on something you can easily spot during the game

Ironically, the more they talk about him and Arsenal's set pieces, the more infamous he becomes.

What a shock the Arsenal fans are defending it. Gary is right he needs to wind his neck in just like the guy at Villa.

I think he's got a point there, to be fair. The mural is also fecking weird

Where have i defended it in my reply?

Now, i could defend it and say annoying Gary Neville and rival fans aren't the reason to wind his neck in, of course as long as he is doing it within the rules. But i didn't.

But i can understand why folk are annoyed.

I find it annoying on all shows that they talk over one another. I think Neville is probably right (there is a time for everything). It's kinda like all the players surrounding the ref. There is one that should be there and that's the captain. Same with the manager in that situation.

Yeah as much as Neville annoys me, he's got a point on this one. Jover definitely likes himself a lot.

I think the fact that we all know his name and who he is is hilarious. I couldn't pick the Chelsea set piece coach out of a line up. I know we signed a guy from Brentford last season, but I couldn't give you his name without looking it up, and I definitely don't know any assistant coaches or special position coaches at other clubs (unless they're famous ex footballers like RVN). So the fact that we all know who Jover is and referring to him by name is funny as feck.

I'm not defending him, just that his argument of "he can't hear you, that's just for show" is clearly wrong. It happened many times that we switched corner routines after getting instructions. It's one of the reasons we take so long to take them.

My initial point on it was Gary Neville moaning about a set piece coach over reaching, when the TV company he works for is one of the ones guilty of highlighting him and panning the camera on him whenever there is a set piece. If they didn't do that, the audience at home would be non the wiser really. That's without mentioning things like MNF making segments out of it.

The Jover fame/notoriety/chant/mural is either hilarious or annoying depending on which side of the fence you're sitting on but it's a byproduct of his work having an outsized impact in actual games, and I wonder why other teams can't take a page from this.

Most coaches travel with their own entourage (who are usually content to sit quiet and know their place) and while that is all good and European, I'm sure teams could benefit from independently hiring assistant coaches who are savants in a specific area, but can't handle the responsibilities of being an overall head coach (yet or ever), or are in between desired head coach opportunities.

Would require the head coach to abdicate some responsibility and swallow some pride but seems like a missed opportunity on that side of the pond.

We are being linked with 500 players right now. And we probably get nothing or a loan.

Edit...the Zubi rumour in the summer might be real. On the current transfer window because we have a whole bunch of injuries and in some form of title challenge, we are naturally going to be linked with those 500 players.

They just don't have it in them do they. Always the bridesmaid, never the. brides and all that.

Well, apparently it was only City stopping them being the bestest team of all time. City give them a free hit and they still won't win a thing.

Unless there’s a spectacular collapse from Liverpool they aren’t winning the league. Even if they bought some good players in it’s a big ask.

Typical that the one season City are out of the way they still can’t manage to win it.

They just don't have the mentality of title winners - I'm not sure if that stems from Arteta but likely it is, but the constant time wasting when a goal up at home rather than going for the kill.

They win too many games by the odd goal and eventually that's going to catch up with you and a few of them are going to turn into draws on an off day.

Meh. They'll match Liverpool's collapse exactly and go into the final week the same 6 points behind.

Used City greatest as excuse even though they were in the box seat one of those seasons and blew it. This season they will finish further behind 1st place than the last two seasons.

They need a forward desperately. Trossard/Havertz etc. are fine as squad players and as players to compliment the stars but they're not players that you can rely on to be the main men. They need that killer.

Question for Arsenal fans on here: if you fail to win the league and don't do much in CL this season, will you be Arteta out? Surely he's staying given Zubimendi signing but interested in what's the mood of the fans?

Genuinely can't believe that their set piece coach has a mural. proper weird

I mean Arsenal are viral FC. It's one of the few clubs that cater to their online fanbase, probably more so than their matchgoing fanbase. Don't they have a dog called win ? or victory ? or something like that.

I've been saying these lot don't have it
I genuinely thought they had a bit of mental strength about them last season and I think they got 89 points which is a great total. But yeah, there’s just something not right about them- the lack of a proper striker doesn’t help but there might be deeper problems there.

Tantalus (Ancient Greek: Τάνταλος Tántalos), also called Atys, was a Greek mythological figure, most famous for his punishment in Tartarus: for revealing many secrets of the gods and for trying to trick them into eating his son, he was made to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, with the fruit ever eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take a drink.

I feel he deserves another season. If we're equally poor next season then we should probably be looking to upgrade.

Don’t know why Villa started the game so tentative and passive. Arsenal looked so vulnerable as soon as Villa decided to have a go at them. I feel Emery made an error in ceding possession and territory for so long until they went 2-0 down.

Hindsight is wonderful.
