Television Arrested Development

The last series on Netflix was pretty poor, though I liked the fourth wall jokes.

Hopefully this is more like the earlier stuff.

Hopefully there will be more interaction between the cast members.

These. For me the best humour came from the main characters interacting and the contrast between them. Following each character around like a player cam meant all that was lost, and i didn't really enjoy the 4th series as a result. Hopefully they return to the old format.

Finally made it to the last series. Apart from it being weird with everyone suddenly aging, the audio mixing is terrible. Narration over talking only works if it's mixed well (or just a big volume difference), and it just sounds like a weirdly amateurish feck up.

So what happened to the 17 new episodes?

This was probably the best comedy on TV for the first three seasons.

They were boring, unrecognisable with all the characters' negative points completely overtaking their personalities

Season 4 wasn't as good, but still had its moments. GOBs first episode (7?) with the wedding and Getaway was bloody hilarious though, one of the best episodes of the entire series in my opinion.

Great news with the fifth season.

Don't know why there was a 5 year gap. It's nearly as long as the gap between season 3 and 4.

Great news. Was only just rewatching the 4th recently.

All the actors are too big/busy now to get in the same room often enough. Even Maeby has another show on atm.

Really want a proper series this time, there must be a way to get the scheduling right.

Scheduling difficulties, most have other shows and some are big stars now. Hopefully they've made sure the writing is better this time too.

Ah, ok. I'd much rather wait a while for a series where they actually interact, that's where most of the humour came from for me.

Definitely sounds positive.

Was watching S4 again recently, and while it's not quite as good as the others, it seems quite bizarrely prophetic. It predicts Trump's Wall for a start, and has Jeffery Tambor transitioning into a woman a full year before Transparent.

I wonder how/if they'll pick those plots up again!

Great news, best comedy series ever made imo.

Most comedies have me being amused and giving it a light chuckle at the most, AD genuinely had me burst out in laughter.

Season 5 announced.

Steve Holt.

Season 4 was still good but actors not being able to film scenes together hurt it. Should be much better this time around.

Alia Shawkat (Maeby) is the ultimate. Very cool person and she was so good in Search Party. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it!

Season 4 was great. I watched it twice and on the first time the first few episodes weren't so good but on the second time around they got better. It wasn't as good as the first 3 but it was still fantastic and I liked that they tried a new format

Season 4 for me picked up a lot near the end. I liked how the stories intertwined

Get in!

I enjoyed Season 4, had some great moments and they did what they could with the cast schedules.

Excited for this if they're all together properly.

Agreed. Given it was something I could binge watch, it made it much better once the stories started to play into each other.

But agree that the best thing about the show was the interaction of them all.

I wasn't massive on Season 4, but if they've got the whole cast interacting together instead of all the interweaving episodes then it should be great.

In celebration i started it from the beginning again today. The 2nd episode 'Top Banana' has got to be one of the best episodes of anything ever.

Season 4 was fecking terrible! Couldn't get past episode 3.

That's kinda missing the whole point of the thing, but, you know, whatever, I guess...

The series structure may be hit and miss, and not to everyones taste, but you're missing out if you don't at least watch the Tobias & GOB ones. The first GOB ep (7 I think?) is amongst the show's best. As is the 'To Catch A Predetor' segment of Tobias's.

"Daddy needs to get his rocks off"

Search Party. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it!

Seconded. Sleeper classic.

Er, fair enough. What was the whole point of the thing?

I watched episode 7 and it was a super mega improvement on the first three tbf. Still think it's not as effective as previous seasons, and the decision to increase running time by 10-15 minutes was just pointless.

.

The idea was they all kinda played off each other, like a big narrative jigsaw, and so loads of the jokes only worked when you saw their set ups in other episodes. The USP being you could watch them in any order, but had to watch them all to get it.

It was an ambitious approach that didn't entirely land, but it definitely makes the later ones stronger, and some of the earlier ones worth a rewatch. The George Sr ones are generally quite poor either way tho
