Arne Slot | Liverpool manager (Posture Watch)

Annoyingly likeable

I'd go out for a pint with him but I'd wear my full Manchester United kit and call him a cnut the whole time
Yes, annoyingly... he would probably wear full Liverpool kit and call you a klootzak the whole time and the two of you would have lots of fun with it.

Very lucky manager. It's making him look better than he is. He has basically gone more defensive as he had the tools already. The attacking players don't need to be coached and the high press comes from muscle memory.

He won't be around more than 3 seasons when Klopps hard work has expired.

Aye. It doesn't count unless he wins the title with Southampton.

I guess he's good. Let's go back to hoping Trent, Salah and VVD leaving + Liverpool's owners not investing is what causes them to become shit again.

Worst case scenario would be if this is their modern reenactment of the shankley paisley transition, they loved the formerly but when silverware started piling up I doubt they ever looked back.

I'd say there were a few nervous laughs from journalists in the room when he made the remarks about the 115 charges. He mustn't have got the memo that they aren't allowed to mention City's cheating in a negative light.

Fair play, that's a good joke

Don't be fooled by his bulldog-like appearance! Anyone who poses like this is going to bring some serious sass:

 That's the pose of a man ready to take over the world and become a president not just a manager in football

but surely jokes can’t be treated as negative light, right?

Here's a question I perplexed my Liverpool supporter friend with:

If you had to choose between Salah and Van Dijk to sign a new contract. Other one leaves. Who you keeping?

If I was a Liverpool fan, it would Salah every day of the week. He's a game changer. VDD is not.

Honestly think VVD’s contribution has been over stated this season. Konate has been more important imo. Van Dijk’s contribution is in the box which can be replaced and as a playmaker which can be replaced. The system has need designed around protecting him from being exposed and utilising those strengths but that doesn’t mean it can’t be tweaked to replace him. Salah on the other hand is absolutely essential to them on an individual level.

Not a Liverpool fan, but you'd have to be insane to pick Van Dijk over Salah.

Van Dijk easily. He has more influence on the entire team and they fight for top 4 without him.

They destroyed Barca without Salah in the CL.

People don't realise Virgil's greatness because he makes everything look so effortless.

I would agree with this. Once Van Dijk does leave, we'll struggle to find a CB close to his level.

Three years? That’s better than I expected…delighted

It won't be far off. They won't recover from this for years.

They dominated Real and City. They are playing well at the moment playing like champions.

I know, but those two teams are struggling right now, and Liverpool don't have a title winning squad, just like they didn't have one last season. But this season they're likely to come closer than last season.

However:

All 4 of their best players still have uncertain futures at the club and it's December. Salah, van Dijk, Trent, Alisson.

Alisson is injury prone. Kelleher is a good number 2 but not someone who can start for a team that wins the PL with 90+ pts and wins the CL too.

Konaté + van Dijk is a title winning level pairing but the drop-off is big if one of them is unavailable.

Robertson has started declining at LB and Tsimikas is not a good enough alternative either.

Gravenberch has done well as a makeshift #6 but once again, there are just way better DMs in the league and across Europe.

Szoboszlai is a good #10 but once again, not on the level of a nailed-on starter for a title winning side. That's KDB/Bruno level, he's not there.

Mac Allister is a solid player, a jack of all trades but master of none. Once again, not someone you can play for 50+ games in a season and still expect to win one of the two major trophies. He can be an important player for such a team, but not a nailed-on starter.

Same situation in the forward line IMO. Gakpo and Díaz are pretty good, but only Salah is on that level that's worthy of being a starter for a top 3 team in the world. Núnez could be that guy up front, but he's not first choice under Slot and I reckon him and Salah would take some goals away from each other even if he became first choice.

They would need a lot of luck even from their current position in order to win the PL. They needed Zubimendi plus at least 1-2 more top level signings in order to have a real chance IMO. This team is getting carried by Alisson, Trent, van Dijk, and Salah. The rest is good but not title-winning quality. I expect them to go on a bad streak whilst Arsenal, and maybe even City go on a good run which will make it a two or three-horse race again, with Liverpool losing out in the end.

Slot is an excellent manager, though, but he needed more backing in the summer and it will come back to bite them IMO.

Can you name a better DM in the Prem this season to date than Gravenberch ? His form has been their biggest surprise and most significant influence on their results. He's now so good he's first choice for Holland, for whom he never played during the Euros despite being in their squad.

Up until this season I thought Gravenberch was the next in a long line of overrated Ajax academy players, but I struggle to name a better player in his position this season. He's been brilliant really.

I think the biggest threat to Liverpool this season is a Salah injury or drop of form. They're not exactly a one man team, but without him they'll struggle.

I wouldn't have him as a defensive midfielder over Rice, Caicedo, Rodri, or Guimaraes from the PL alone. He's more of an #8 and his profile is just not of an elite #6 for me.

Maybe not necessarily ability wise, but judging his performances this season. Rodri is obviously better, but he will miss most of this season (or will he, I don't know actually).

It'll be interesting to see how he copes without Salah, Salah has carried them this season and has saved them from defeat a couple of times including against Saints but at his age he wont be able play at his current level throughout the 2nd half of the season so he will need to be rested at some point and they dont really have any decent replacement.

You really saying this? He's physically fitter than any of our players even now.

The Hungarian's mediocre, sure, but what rubbish is this?

Bruno's a nailed-on starter for which title winning side? Are you talking about the future?
