Arne Slot | Liverpool manager (Posture and/or Sack Watch)

I don't really get "Crystanbul". We effecively lost the league in the prior game against chelsea when rodgers let himself be hoodwinked into trying to win a game he only needed to draw against an opponent that had already parked the bus befoe kickoff.
Crystal Palace was an attempt at a mission impossible of turning over a GD of 12 in two games.

OK, we lost a 3-0 lead in the dying minutes and that's something, but ultimately it had no impact on the the title race.

Rodgers was stupid in both games, but you went into the Palace game with belief that you could still do it.

You're technically correct that it didn't change things, but the Palace game was where you ultimately surrendered the title (despite still being in the race mathematically), which is why the players were so distraught at the result. Suarez was audibly sobbing after the match.

Yeah it's like 'oh look you tried really hard in this game'. Well yes, why weren't you trying to the maximum then Liverpool, maybe you would have won? It's nearly like criticising yourself for an inability to match the intensity of the opponent.
Game raising is obviously a thing. We often struggled to win at Anfield during our pomp and not because we weren't trying our maximum.

It was clear that Everton tried especially hard in this game considering this was the last derby at that ground and all that. Moaning about it in private is all well and good. It's VVD saying it to the press that makes him come across as a sore loser.

Whenever I've seen Liverpool this season they really haven't impressed me at all.

It feels a bit like our 12/13 season where we weren't great but Robin Van Persie was the difference in so many games and the rest of the league was pretty weak. Obviously replace Salah for RVP for them.

If Liverpool lose Salah and Van Dijk I think they will drop like a stone next season. Especially as they are likely to lose them both on a free. There's nobody out there that can replicate what Salah and Van Dijk do for them and they never seem to spend much money unless they sell a player for a big fee.

They have looked good in patches but as you say, remove even just Salah and they ain't winning the league. Much like City, their overall quality has slowly been declining over the past few years. Salah has carried them massive in the same way RvN did for us that season. I don't know if its still the case but very recently Salah had scored or assisted something silly like 65% of Liverpools league goals.

Fool's belief, if so.

We were never overturning a deficit of 12 goals in two games.

Two 6-0s were highly unlikely, but not impossible, given how freely you seemed to be scoring that season.

The Chelsea game was the one that put the title out of your hands, but the Palace game is where you lost it completely.

That's always been the problem with the Crystanbal narrative. It ignores the clear and obvious fact that Gerrard directly through away the title.

Agree with this, 100% the most important PL game of the season for Everton, already out of relegation trouble. The atmosphere was incredible, all understandable with the last game there as you said. I also agree that VVD should have kept that opinion private, Slot should of just been gracious and calmed down even if seething there and then, never a good luck, and Jones was an idiot, kicked it all off. These things happen though, all about how they respond which I expect to be very positively, ultimately a draw last night could prove very useful.

We also needed to score more than city did over those two games, besides the 12 goal deficit. It ended up 14 goal deficit, so we'd have needed to win by 15 goals in our last two games.

Was he not like this at Feyenoord? Did he get any red or yellow cards for you?
He's always been snippy with refs and 4th officials, but always in a sort of tongue in cheek sarcastic way. Not the actual meltdown he has in that short clip there.

I loved his jabs at opposition teams and the media when he was with us, but rival fans hated him.

Though now our whole nation is kind of proud we might finally have produced an actual top coach. Because I do think he is that.

I've no issues with Slot's reaction, although I'm not sure exactly what he got sent off for. I saw some of the decisions Oliver gave. It actually is funny when it happens to someone else, especially your lot.

Golden Earring!
I have an original press LP of this band that one of my best friends, Dutch, was so happy to get me for my birthday. It apparently cost him and arm and a leg and was signaled as being "mint condition" when he purchased it but it jumps around at random moments. Decent band though.

Sure, Rodgers was the culprit in that game.
Won a good bit in recent times all the same, and by this logic, I presume you must consider Arsenal to have even less of an elite mentality?
I think everyone does, yes.

Unless I've done my maths wrong, you went into the Palace game on +50, while City entered that weekend on +59.

You also played Palace before City played Villa that weekend.

I'm not disputing that it was a longshot, and with hindsight you should have stopped pushing once you were 3-0 up, but I still think you're massively downplaying the psychological impact of that draw on both your lot and City.

We were also conceding freely all season as well. 50 conceded vs City's 38.

Think they're too far ahead and they only have Arsenal to worry about who like to finish 2nd and are ravaged by injury.
You know that was probably the least effective we've looked in terms of chance creation all season. Moyes is doing a decent job so far.

Now be a good neighbor and beat Arsenal later in the season.

I think it's quite soon after the international break that Everton have a week where they can sort of play kingmaker. Trip to Anfield midweek then Arsenal at Goodison that weekend.

Interesting. I think we'll beat Everton at home. Our record against them is pretty good.

Yeah he definitely is. While it became unlikely after the Chelsea game, there was still an outside chance, and there would have been pressure on City til the end. Crystanbul was just the final nail in the coffin, and what a glorious one at that!

Apparently, what he said was "great game" as he shook his hand.

Sent off for sarcy attitude. Oliver has well and truly lost it.

He’s already come out and said he won’t reveal what he said but he regrets it and it’s not something he plans to do again.

He clearly lost the plot and it was obvious he shook Oliver's hand aggressively. He'd been tearing his hair out (figuratively speaking) on the touchline all game.

Oliver got it spot on and he deserved to go, possibly with an additional punishment for trying to physically hurt a match official.

Easy 6 month ban. Could've broken Oliver's hand.

Klopp always loved to spout - only one team wanted to play football or the grass was too tall or the whole of that and that town was in their box - stuff when they'd lose. Of course every time they'd won he was full of praise for the opposing team.

Klopp was a real box of excuses in any interview when Liverpool didn't win. The grass was too long, it was too windy, the floodlights was too bright, too many 12:30pm kick off etc...
Oh no, no, noooo!
The best one you forgot!
"That Valencia offside".

Classy response from Slot, was a wally on the night and mostly understandable by anyone watching the game, the atmosphere, circumstances etc. But as I have said before, ideally he shakes hands with Moyes, walks off and cools down. Instead of coming out with excuses he has apologised and admits he should have acted differently. Everyone can make mistakes, acknowledging and learning from them is the sign of a good person.

It’s the standard response. That’s what 99% of managers would do when they’re about to be charged. I think you have probably got used to Klopp’s classless antics and are comparing to that.

Definitely different to Klopp, he had lost it in the last two years. I cringed watching his interviews, rightly always be a Liverpool legend, but you are right, he was far from classy in his last couple of years when it came to the difficult press. Slot early days but in general seems a lot less intense personality.
