Arjen Robben

73 goals from 129 appearances for Robben at Bayern from the wing.....that's just nuts

2009 was the summer Bayern bought Robben for a ludicrously cheap 20 million and went from being a bit Meh as a club to getting to the Champions League final at the end of that season

That summer we made the Champions League final and lost to Barca. We lost Ronaldo and Tevez in the summer window and replaced them with Obertan, Owen and Valencia.....

Must have been one of Fergies worst ever summer windows.....How he didn't take a punt on Robben for 20 million that summer was madness

Absolutely welcome but he's made of glass so we need to still have a proper back-up.

Pretty sure Fergie said something like Robben not having enough "determination" or something along those lines. Safe to say Fergie was completely wrong on that one.

His career has been marked with injuries, no one could've anticipated that he'd ever be consistently fit for any extended period of time. Whatever happens next for the player, Bayern will represent not only his peak but was the turning point in his career

I maintain that any of Real's Dutch castaways (van der Vaart aside) would have made solid additions to our squad. I even think Huntelaar would have worked out well enough (obviously Robben and Sneijder would have been ace). That's not mentioning the original fiasco of Robben signing with Chelsea. Who knows if he ever would have maintained his fitness here, though.

He played so few games last season

You don't think it would be a little risky?
Him lining up for us alone would have teams tactically catering for his game and free everyone else up even if he wasn't 100%. His injury concerns are one thing, but the player he is, and has been are more than worth it. He'd be the best player in the league instantaneously and he's such a proven performer.

Essentially, the RWF version of getting Schweinsteiger with the same amount of risk/reward adjusted for the value of an attacker.

To my mind, I couldn't think of a better player to go after, especially so since he knows LVG's philosophies and tactical planning inside out.

Can only imagine the lift it would give the other players as well to get such a world renowned name in.

Dear god, the training sessions would be hilarious. After 2 weeks, Robben would fly past Jones who, in a clumsy attempt to get the ball, knees him in the shin. Both out for the season...

It would make little sense for Bayern to sell him. He's still too important to them on the field (for obvious reasons, he's still their best player). And because of his age, Bayern wouldn't be able to get a high fee for him. The only factor could be that Bayern have a young replacement ready to step in, but as far as I know, they don't.

£73m would be fair value for a 32-year old injury prone winger.

I don't see how this was an answer to my post

People moaning about us not signing Robben when he left Real forget how good Valencia was for us those first three seasons.

There is more chance of the Germans banning sausages than Bayern selling Robben this summer.

I remember Robben from Championship manager 01 / 02 (I think). Those games messed up my education.

Is this one still rumbling on is it? :D fair play journos really do print some crap... And we sure do lap it up!

Manchester United ready to rescue Arjen Robben from Bayern Munich as they step up winger hunt
The Bayern wide man is said to be unhappy at the German champions and could be set for a reunion with his former Holland boss

Manchester United are monitoring Arjen Robben’s growing discontent at Bayern Munich.

The Dutch winger, who proved he is now back to his best after being sidelined for two months by a torn stomach muscle by scoring twice in Holland’s 3-2 win over Wales in Cardiff on Friday night, is at war with Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has made it clear that he prefers to play alongside Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman because Robben is too selfish.

And Robben hasn’t reacted well to Lewandowski’s slight.

That has put United on red alert as they look to add a quality wideman to their squad in January.

Reds’ boss Louis van Gaal already has youngsters Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard, while Adnan Januzaj is on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

But Van Gaal wants proven quality - and Robben fits the bill with a stellar career that has took him to Bayern via PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The pair also worked together when Van Gaal was Holland coach.

Robben will turn 32 in January, but he believes he can play at the very top for at least another three years.

He has made it clear to Bayern that he wants regular football and will not accept playing second fiddle behind Costa and Coman.

And Bayern boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is unable to do anything about Lewandowski’s criticisms because the Dutchman is too old to change his ways.

It would be great if it were true. This team is crying out for a player like Robben.

As much as I love him, we can't rely on him. Even bayern can't

Happily give him a home, but it would come down to the deal in place. at his age and his injury concerns there's no way we pay a big fee and wage. There no doubting his quality he's still absolutely unplayable when fit.

Would take him in a heartbeat. He's the kind of player that turns a top 3 team into title winners.

It would be a great bit of business in January, instantly transform out attack.

If Rooney is guaranteed a start we could line up like this in a 433.

Marital - Rooney - Robben
Herrera - Schneiderlin - Mata
