Are we ready for the start of the season?

We need to replace our whole defence at this rate. Struggling to understand why we have so many injury problems in defence.

Are we honestly going to be going into the first game of the season with Casemiro at CB?

I've never seen a club go through as much injuries as we have in the last year.

It's gotten to the point where it doesnt even feel like its happening naturally, almost feels like sabotage.

Reduce the intensity in training, that’s what I’d do on FM anyway. Simples.

We've got a mid table squad (City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Villa, Newcastle are all better) and a bottom half manager.

We're as ready as whatever that is

It just doesn't make logical sense to me the amount of injuries we have and how it seemingly isn't being addressed? I simple can't be fecked to watch another season where half of the squad is seemingly unavailable. Life's too short.

Should of binned Maguire and Lindelof ago. We needed two midfielders this window and we have signed none. Squad looks the weakest in my lifetime watching United. I hope Ineos pull a madness before the window closes or we will be playing catch up as can’t even see us beating Fulham right now. Hate to be negative but its the reality right now.

Sabotage is a valid concern. Players clearly have no fight in them. I think there's some worry that players are downing tools.

To be fair to them, they have been severely hamstrung by cashflow problems and unsellable players on ludicrous wages, all of which is the fault of mismanagement by Woodward/Arnold/Murtough and the Glazers.
Yes they have inherited a shitshow but I would have hoped for some more movement than we’ve had so far.
A shit 2-3 weeks of the season and we are already snookered.
Have to hope we spawn our way for the first few games, but if it’s horrific and it could easily be that the knives will be out and could derail the whole thing.

With Sir Jim being the age he is I really thought there would be some haste in action. Appears not. The squad is a disgrace as it is, it should have been ripped up. Pay players off if you need to.

Plus I don't see how the same manager gets a lot more out of largely the same players.

Agreed but reality is this will be a slow process. We will have to endure some belt tightening, only way to change the status quo of our poor spending.

I cannot recall Maguire having such injury problems at Hull, Leicester, or for England. Or, his first season here at Man Utd.

Since his loss of form, he's never been the same. Can he play five games in a row? Luke Shaw seems unable to.

It's nuts.

If we don't sign anybody else do any of you seriously expect us to have a better season than the last one? If you do I have some magic beans to sell you.

Logically, you'd like to think we can't be much worse, but a real positive improvement that is something to be proud of and believe its a sign of good things to come, right now, seems a bit unlikely. Who knows, maybe there's some miracles ahead.

That isn't happening at all. Look at how much we are haggling for the duo that Bayern want a combine 55m for. Injury crisis to start the season in the back 4 and INEOS is haggling over 10-15m.

We are not ready…..starting the season off slowly will only cause more disharmony in the squad and with the manager. Let’s hope we can get a semi decent start going and bring in some more players before the end of the window.

Ideally you’d have all this done for the preseason so we could start the season on fire but as usual we do things the wrong way. Even with competent people now at the helm we are paying for past mistakes not being able to shift players out.

So that’ll be:
- no De Ligt if they don’t get Tah
- no Mazraoui if we don’t pay off AWB
- Both McT and Casemiro staying
- no Ugarte / Zubimendi because of the fees
- main midfield target now Sander Berge

Call me a knee-jerker but I’m ready to write this season off already!

Team looking like:

Onana
Dalot Evans Martinez Shaw
Casemiro Mainoo
Garnacho McT Rashford
Bruno as false 9

feck me!

With last season 8th place finish.

Adding Yoro (now injured for 2-3 months) and Zirkzee (unknown)

I'd expect 4th at the very best, but realistically the team and manager will be fighting for 5th-7th place.

United are going to have to rely on the promising young players developing quickly.

INEOS after a promising start to the summer are now looking like they have left the team short for the opening months of the season.

You mean a lot more than finishing 3rd like a year ago? I agree it will be difficult. We still made some improvements to the squad since that time though.

It's the same squad, if not slightly weaker, that failed so badly last season.

I'm not confident of us having a good season at all. I expect better than last season but probably not that much better sadly.

I try and remain hopeful but it will need a good start or the pressure will kill this season.

I'm half joking. Being honest, this is the first time in maybe 10 years I have not seen ANY preseason game. I don't have any expectations for next season, I honestly think Ineos consider this just as a bridge to future that they will start building a year from now.

We're one day closer to the beginning of the season and we are not ready to compete with clubs like City and Liverpool. I think we can beat Fulham and Brighton but both will be tough opponents and both are strong enough to beat us. Not to be too pessimistic but we could go winless in August, which would be really unfortunate.

The MO for United has been to hit the panic button in August and buy players we've been looking at for a while but refused to pull the trigger or players who have wily agents who know how to take advantage of us. INEOS have brought in some impressive names in senior management but as of right now United do not look like a serious contender for fourth place in the PL.

I've got no problem with sacrificing a season and starting to build long term - the short term strategy of the last 10 years had to stop.

I merely returned your own politeness with that jail quip, so blame yourself.

If you've read the rest of the discussion you'd know that FIFPro regulates mandatory vacation after FIFA regulated tournaments, such as the Euros. So all players in the Euros go on a 3-week vacation after they're knocked out. Finalists got the option to return earlier.

And yes, vacation is a lawful obligation enforced by national employment laws in the UK and The Netherlands (and many other countries). That means employers (in this case, Manchester United and KNVB/Royal Dutch Football Association) are responsible for not only giving their employees vacation, but also for ensuring that it is fulfilled. So it is absolutely mandatory and obligatory, and the lawful responsibility is on the employer, not the employee.

So in simplified terms: If a player refuses to take their vacation, clubs are lawfully bound to force them to take it.

If a player chooses to train during their vacation, they absolutely can, but they can't report back to work/training organized by their own employer. That's why many players go on summer training camps not organized by their employers. E.g. English players doing summer training camps in the US or Dubai, and such.

They can also return to use the club's facilities, or even visit their team on tour. But they can not partake in organized team training or other organized activities with paid staff until their vacation is over. Nor can the club staff officially organize their training or schedules, until the vacation is over.

Good post, man. I was absolutely blind to this employment laws. Anyway, it's probably the right thing to not have him on tour. There's some "injury bug" in the tour squad, reading the news.

Sorry for my "out of place" joke, mate. That's the only post out of 24k that I didn't put much thought on!

Here's some advice for you all.

Go to the match. Watch it in the pub with your pals. Watch at home with your family.

Cherish those moments of glory. For all the crap last season, we experienced highs that no other fan in the country will have seen. A young lad scoring in the 120th minute against the scousers to give us a win in probably one of the greatest FA Cup matches when we were massive outsiders? Magic.

Remember that our football club is one like no other.

If we finish the season beating city in the cup final again, all the sh** you go through will have been worth it. Who cares what anyone else thinks? Wear that shirt with pride. I saw grown men crying with happiness after that match. We took that success for granted in the past. I wouldn't have swapped that feeling after the cup final for another Champions League win.

Enjoy the ride. Up the reds.

We've sleepwalked into this season completely unprepared once again. Not expecting much this year if I'm being honest.

City will give us an indication. Hopefully Ineos acts afterwards
The city game won't indicate how we'll do this season nor should Ineos react to a glorified friendly. They should have a plan which I'm sure they do. The reason they can't act on that plan is that to take the next steps, we need other clubs to purchase some of our guys while paying respectable fees to set a standard so you can't just force them out for nothing. So as of now, we can't do anything other than wait for other teams.

It just doesn't make logical sense to me the amount of injuries we have and how it seemingly isn't being addressed? I simple can't be fecked to watch another season where half of the squad is seemingly unavailable. Life's too short.
It is being addressed. We will be calling a multi-religious prayer meeting soon.

Hard to disagree. We’re a shambles

Ofcourse we are not ready for the season.. Nowhere near..

We need more signings and we need to ship off more players.. The team is not as it should be yet.. On top of that the Euro's/Copa and USA pre season tour made it difficult to get ready collectively as an entire squad for the PL opener..

The second part is something a lot of our competitors have to deal with ofcourse, though it's more concerning for us as we have less existing squad dynamics/patterns/hierarchies to build further upon..

The first part is a consequence of the new regime is it now? I mean.. For a long time Ive been hearing that United should get rid of the reputation that we always pay the big bucks and will cave for price.. The club appereantly also feels this and seems to take more time to negotiate and play hard call.. But this comes with a price.. I reckon we could have paid up the price for De Ligt two weeks ago and had him with us for some time already, at a bit more cost..

It's a choice where our priorities are? Do we want our squad in order asap and are we willing to pay a bit of premium for that earlier in the window? Or do we prioritize taking the time to get to the best deals? If its the latter, it also means risking losing your grip on a transfer (as might happen with De Ligt if the Bayern Tah deal doesnt go through..)

I know this sounds ridiculous before you think about it, but I think there are easily 6 teams in the PL who have a better squad than us

Our new level is competing with Newcastle and Aston Villa. It will take a lot of effort to turn it back around. We’ve given up one of the biggest headstarts in sports history.
