Are we ready for the start of the season?

I don’t like that everything has seemingly ground to a halt since the pre-season US tour on the transfer side. I was hoping we’d have signed at least a third player by now. The aim of getting stuff done before the season starts is if you don’t do it, it leaves us open to be rinsed in the market if we start bad and get desperate, which under ETH and based on last season I’m not ruling out.

I think the answer is no.

However I do think there is reasons to be optimistic. So I’ll list them here.

1. Fans are realists a top 4 finish is our glory in the league.

2. We have some absolute gems in young players who will learn from their experience so far, Mainoo, Hojiluand and Gernacho. Those three are here to stay and could become three absolute monsters of the global game. If they work hard and want to do it.

3. Hernandez our most competitive player missed most of last season.

4. Rashford is on a downer after missing the Euros he doesn’t have star player power and knows if he doesn’t reprove himself he’s gone and no other big club wants him.

5. I still think we’ll do some really great business and bring in a midfielder and defender.

6. Ineos have given the club a structure.

All good points. I'm assuming you mean Martinez, not Hernandez :)

I don't know much about how are Ineos operating and negotiating, but I can guarantee that any DM we're chasing will be more and more expensive with our each next game.
100% truth

Not sure why some can think we're ready when the chuckle brothers Rashford and Sancho are still here.

Some good signs today but a few of the old problems remain. Forwards were a bit wasteful and the centre backs didn't look especially confident playing out from the back. The latter i expect to get a lot better when we start our first choice players but the forwards worry me a bit. We have good depth up front but inconsistent quality.

The official answer is no

Erik ten Hag: "The team is not ready but the league starts. We can’t hide from it. We have to deal with it." #mufc

This is the full quote, he was talking about training and hence being ready as a team with time spent together.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag on whether new players need time: "It’s true, it’s not the pre-season where in five to six weeks you work on a team, it’s very complicated.

"The USA tour squad and then we added the players at Euros and Copa America and now new signings and we have to make a team from it.

"That team is not ready but the league starts and more managers have this problem.

"Still, we have some room, have some principles and we have to make a start. We can’t hide, we have to deal with it."

United stand doing like tabloids do with running with click bait head line.

It was stupid to go on the USA tour. International players returned in dribs and drabs to find most of the squad was elsewhere. No way to get the squad used to each other.

Of course they are not ready. Doubt many are.

I don't know if I'm missing something, but when I saw these "click bait" headlines, I interpreted them exactly as he meant them anyway. In what other way could we not be ready? Strong squad, loads of new signings, only a few injuries. No excuses not to have a solid start here, and we're playing the scousers at a perfect time too.

We looked ok last weekend.

This is not a Ten Hag criticism as every single one of the big clubs is the same, but one of my biggest pet peeves with football is clubs, managers etc. crying about too many fixtures, not enough time to prepare etc. Then at the same time they choose to galavant off to the other side of the world in pre season, despite knowing full well half their squad will have to stay home, in order to play other teams from the same country as them, in a different country, completely pointlessly, pick up injuries in the process, delay integrating new sigings who couldn't join the rest of the team until it got back from tour, etc.

And I have nothing against pre season tours either, but this is like booking your driving test, then booking a holiday where your plane home lands 15 minutes before the test is due to start, then complaining that the test centre don't allow you enough time to prepare/arrive for your test from your entirely self chosen, voluntary holiday.

Exactly, anyone with players coming back from tournaments is not fully ready.

We are ready except for not having a match fit striker or left back. Should not matter though.

Posted the full Ten Hag quote giving actual context to that headline.

If we don't get midfielder we're not ready. Imagine Casemiro whom we don't like already gets injured or wild red? Or Mainoo in that case.
