Are PSG a failed project?

Love how Neymar and Mbappe have been their two best players ever potentially alongside Ibra and the fans don’t give a damn
I met some older psg fans a year ago and the favorites were pauleta and rai, they didn't care much about these recent players. They enjoy them but they don't see them as fan favorites.

Neymar is just not a super likeable guy. The production is there, number wise. Eye test a lot more frustrating.
Mbappé I think everyone is just burned out by the high school saga at this point. He was always going to leave eventually. All the drama is just exhausting and superfluous.

Apparently PSG don't want to accept the transfer fee of Verratti to Saudi. If he stays he has a good chance of becoming the PSG player with most appearances.

Neymar’s career should have been a lot more than it has been. But like you said, he’s just not a very likeable player, and he rocked up at PSG far too early.

What a pointless accomplishment that would be for Verratti.

Maybe.

The QSI takeover left some pretty melancholic. Doubly so because the interim owners waged war with the Ultras to clean up the "asset" for "the sale".
The sudden money hack sort of dulls the stakes, really, and that's before getting into the unsavory sportwashing aspects.

That said, for as artificial and plastic the club may be, I think some players will be remembered fondly from this period. Personally I loved Matuidi. Verratti possibly becoming the player with most appearances under the shirt is huge (though he is trailed by Marquinhos)... Yeah maybe because he was too "lazy" to leave but still. Cavani was a hard worker, always got his shift in and it was very apt he (briefly) held the record for most goals scored.

For sure though : Pauleta who carried the club through its darkest days will always be more the guy than Mbappé despite the latter being an actual phenom. Will never live up to Weah's goals in Europe, Ricardo's stonewall defence or seeing your fullback Bernard Mendy torch Roberto Carlos in an international game...

One funny thing I'll mention : I know it doesn't sit well with some fans that PSG is so eager to get the discarded seconds of the FC Barca team (Neymar, Messi, now Luis Enrique) involved in La Remontada.

They did get a guy in the inner circle of UEFA and the WC so I think this has been a success.

Ekitike has gone from sought after talent to getting kicked out in one year. Talk about bad decision making.

I remember us being linked to him under Rangnick. Is he worth a punt as a backup to Hojland or is he terrible?

Well there goes that most appearances record for Marco I guess.
Shelving Mbappé, Neymar and Verratti is huh... Decisive management ?

The most surprising name in there is Ekitiké. He was bought this summer for 28,5m€ for Pete's sake (after being part of the team on loan last season). Made for a non-diva backup CF option.

Neymar wants out, Verratti has had Saudi offers, Sanches agreed to personal terms with Roma, Bernat I don't know.

Haven't watched him much but surely he's worth a punt to somebody if he's good enough to have been bought by PSG. He's still just 21. Good talents at that age are rarely available at fire sale prices.

I've seen a bunch of posts online calling Neymar and Mbappe selfish for "turning their backs" on PSG.

Surely even the most ardent PSG fan would have to admit that when you play around with mercenaries this is what you should expect.

Didn't light Paris on fire, but it's hard to make a broad judgement about a single season in a difficult environment like PSG. Didn't have a ton of playtime : 32 appearances for 1300 minutes approx. Only 4 goals.

Reportedly there's talks with Everton and I think a handful of midtable PL clubs could be interested (West Ham).

Didn't they reject a bid for Verrati because they wanted him to stay? They're all over the place.

Cheeky Neymar loan bid, with only 100k of wages covered :lol:

Bloody hell, shots fired!

Surely be a few in for Veratti, they'll need to let Neymar go for free as his wages are insane.

There's gossip reports the talk was not as brutally dismissive. They're not part of future plans, they'll be let go if good offers come in. Otherwise they'll train and play according to team needs. Neymar, supposedly, not that eager to move.
It's all supposed ITK talk. It still looks like kneejerk management.

Was Ronaldinho not considered a fan favourite?

He didn't stay long enough to really cement himself as a proper PSG player, it was well understood that was his pre-Barca trial, but people think fondly of him and having had the privilege to see him perform at home. In absolute terms perhaps the most talented player to have worn the shirt.

There was some comedy, including famously low brow and loud coach Luis Fernandez benching him at very odd times and managing him on an adverse manner. The star of the club was waning at that point and even with a recent past of Brazilian big names, Ronnie was obviously a couple of sizes too big for PSG at that point.

But Raí, brother of Socrates, is the legacy Brazilian number 10 of the golden years.

I think PSG was always Qatars WC 2022 project. Once they got the gig and they were able to get it done successfully , they were always going to drop it like a spoilt child.

Wont be surprised if they sell it in a couple of years

PSG penned a letter to warn about the dangers & evils of players leaving free at the end of their contract, as reported by L'Equipe.

Nasser really having a meltdown over Mbappé.

Did they not sign Donnarumma as a free agent?

Haven't read the lequipe article but hilarious if true. I hope Mbappe takes them to the cleaners, pathetic club.

Think of Jean the janitor, Kylian. Think of his family. It's all on you if you leave free !

I think he has a lot of hatters who will swarm on you for suggesting that.

We have been chasing a Dutch deep lying playmaker all summer long last year. There we have one, who is available. If ETH can convince him and he stops fecking around in night clubs and takes some care of his body, he would be a beast. Would be surprised if Pep is not all over him.

I'd love him here, I think he's a stunning player.

This is hilarious, PSG soap opera. Qatar are broke now?

Not sure they are serious in selling him

I think they are but Nasser is a fickle man. Maybe they settle for less but if Saudi bids are still around that's probably a 35-50m€ blind. A bit rich for what you get.

Incredible player but you're not getting him off cigs and partying.

Edit : Word is that he is the only player on the list of non-desirables that would be replaced man for man if he left.

I hope so. They have been causing a lot of inflation in the market with the crazy prices and salaries they can pay without any consequences.

Rumours of Neymar and Mbappe leaving.

Jeez, imagine losing Messi, Neymar and Mbappe in one transfer window.

Looking at the team they had out on the weekend, god it looked weak. You remove Mbappe and they’re extremely ordinary.

But that’s probably for the best. All those egos don’t work, and it hasn’t for the past decade.

They need a reset, and getting rid of Mbappe will be the start of that.

I mean, wasn’t really working out was it?

When it becomes the (insert player name here) show it’ll never work.

City have Haaland but also a world class team to support him. PSG had 3 world class divas and an average defence/midfield.

Cant believe many fans want similar owners to this. Not convinced it would be much different here.

And yes, compared to the wallet-size, PSG is a failed project. Had they at least reached more semi-finals in CL or looked great overall then it’d be another story. They should be winning the league every year too.
