Are PSG a failed project?

It's gone a bit under the radar but they've been pretty shrewd in their post neymar/mbappe team building.

They probably have the best midfield in all of europe right now.
Luis Campos (DoF) has done a great job in rebuilding that team and convincing the owners to change philosophy and recruitment.

Be interesting to see if he gets the renewal he wants or ends up leaving this summer. There will be a lot of interest in him seeing the cracking work he did at Monaco and lille previously.

Apparently Aretha wants him at arsenal and Chelsea are interested as well.

The only thing I really disagree with is calling Donnarumma “arguably world class“. To me he simply is not great and I will die on this (sometimes very lonely) hill.
I think most people who watch him consistently would agree with you, it wouldn't be a lonely hill for too long. If he was playing for Utd, he'd get more abuse than Onana.

I actually said it during group stage that I feel they'll win the CL this year, they look more balanced than ever it feels. May be terribly wrong and they get knocked out vs Liverpool over next 2 weeks but we'll see.
I guess you mean during the latter stages of the league phase? Cos they were really poor at first (and were at risk for a while of going out), but have improved and are now looking quite potent. Dembele's form, Barcola's consolidation as a great replacement for Mbappe and their midfield make them an interesting proposition.

I don't know if he'd get more abuse than Onana simply because he is a more consistent shot stopper. But he is also very italian, in the sense that he can't control his box to save his life. The way I see it, Onana is a clone of Sirigu and Donnarumma is their superior version.

Love the team they have built. Want them to win the CL. Goalkeeper is pretty solid, awesome full backs, great centre backs as well. Vitinha, Neves, Zaire-Emery, Fabian Ruiz are all great midfielders.

Barcola, Doue, Dembele are all class and french. Even Ramos seems to be chipping in with goals, Enrique has done tremendous work too. Their revanche vs Liverpool will be very interesting, possibly two of the best 3 teams in the world right now.

They've looked good for a while to be honest - early CL they were more unlucky, their only 'bad' game was Arsenal and even then it wasn't like they got dominated, they should have beaten PSV and Atleti. Bayern were marginally better than them but a close game. They were my pick for this year's CL from end of last season, mainly because I think Enrique is phenomenal, but also because of their change in recruitment. I really don't like what they stand for but they are immense at playing through a press and will happily mix it up re possession versus direct play. I bloody hope I am right and we see Pool get dismantled this week.

If he can make it happen at Arsenal he might get just a little respect.

They are playing quite well now, they look a much better team without the 'Galactico's'. Fair play to PSG they have given time for Enrique to build his team and embed his tactics which is starting to come to fruition.

Before we get any comparisons to Amorim, you have to remember Enrique comes with a reputation and pedigree that Amorim doesn't.

Yes, thank you. It was from December or something like that that they improved.

Could we be in for him as well or did that position go to willox?

We could divide the PSG project into phases. The messi, neymar and mbappe phase was a failure. They didn't win the UCL while having one of the biggest payrolls in the world. This is a new phase and the trial is pending. It looks promising from what they're playing, a young team with good players in all positions and a good coach.

I just don't think Dembele will be able to maintain this level for long. PSG will need other players to step up.

All in all they are a very dangerous rival for Liverpool and this time with "nothing to loose" apporach against the "one of THE candidates". I'm not very fond of many of their more talented players, yet mostly all of them are in GREAT form and they are constantly playing as a TEAM, sthg they lack since ages.

They're a better team now than the galactico version, but luck totally deserted them yesterday...

The best team we've faced this season by a mile. Destroyed us, and if we play like that again next week we are out of the CL.
That midfield will be scary for many years to come I'm afraid.

They've got the reverse Madrid UCL juju. Can't see them coming back at Anfield tbh.

At home might genuinely be the best team I've seen all season

will need to carry that form to Anfield though, and I'm not they can. Honestly, expect Liverpool to dominate that one

Are PSG a failed project?

The fact such a question can seriously be asked says what we need to know.

They failed to emulate Real's 'Galactico' era and now fancy themselves as a red bull knock-off.

Still European bottlers.

The nike michael jordan motif they constantly display on their jerseys is another bizarre attachment.

With actual red bull showing up in Paris, it could be high time for France's genuine clubs to come together and form their own league.

Isn't that gone for a couple of years now? They surely had the Nike logo yesterday

They still seem like the same old PSG to me in Europe. Start the competition well enough but once they meet a heavy weight they become nervous ,uncertain and continue to have a softness about them. Not once did I feel confident they were going to score last night and, even if they did, they still would've typically messed it up eventually.

I'm adamant it's not a failure. PSG's claim to fame before they took over was 2 league titles (80's and early 90's) and the fact Ronaldinho had a spell there. They've completely dominated French football and have become one of the top teams in the Champions League it's madness to say otherwise.

I read that under Enrique this season they had a better record away from home in fact. But I haven't fact checked it so not sure it's accurate.

We've seen Manchester City absolutely dominate the PL with arguably some of the best teams ever and only have 1 title to their name it's a tough competition to win and PSG have come very close multiple times

They had 2 poor performances in CL this season, away to Arsenal and Bayern

Liverpool tend to be significantly better at home too
