A quick search of the OPs posting history brings up 3 pages worth of stuff about women’s football alone. Almost all of it is critiquing it in some form.

Othering can't be othering if it's scientific. That's always worked well in historical terms. To query why a man and womans voice might be different is to query well established science.
If it's just about the voice that's still nothing to do with the sex. I agree that a voice can irk you in a way you can't control and thus you won't enjoy listening to the commentary. That's why we sort of have a blueprint for male voices that people like and won't irritate anyone (which is mostly the job of the commentator).First of all to respond Id have to narrow immediately to football. As other posters have mentioned, there are female commentators they rate in other sports, but each sport is unique, and commentating on a 90 minute premier league match is different from match to match, let alone versus boxing, cricket or tennis for example. A top male snooker commentator probably couldnt do the premier league job either, and neither could morgan freeman despite peoples fondness for his voice.
I think what seems to have especially rankled people here is that i specifically criticised the woman in the OP's voice. In the same OP, I said that I dont doubt that women exist who can do the job well but people have in part, ignored this. Of course, like everything, it comes down to taste, and for my taste, the clip used features really awful commentary, almost certainly down to her voice rather than what is being said. We all have different voices, I know I'd be a terrible commentator, but there is also a well established difference between male and female voices, for the majority part., so its not unreasonable to query if this has been a factor in the poor output so far, though as others have highlighted, recruitment and training play a part too.
As for what makes a good commentator, there is of course the content of what is being said, which was not criticised in the OP and in fact was pointed out as something I didnt feel needed criticism. The same as many roles in the world that rely on voice, I think some voices are better suited to commentary, ideally one that doesnt have to go through an extreme range, or have to hit an incredibly high pitch at key moments. What im saying here is not science, but seemingly im risking a ban by talking about it even in a measured way.
Some posts from a decade ago versus having such an opinion now. Bit different. Some people move with the times. Others don’t.So? So are huge amounts of the articles and think pieces about womens football that prompt discussion. So are many of the topical stories that bring womens football to broader conversation. Critique is the nature of discussing things
a quick search of your history sees posts about womens nipples in tennis, 'tasty' women from chile at the world cup, and women not being funny. why would we play that game?
To be fair, there was that time Phil Neville tried his hand at commentary and utterly sucked the life out of everyone. Also, Jenas.Imagine pretending to care about the tone of the commentators voice

Commentators are boring, they're supposed to be boring in a way that you don't notice that they're there but you'd notice them if they were missing. When there's two people the commentators job is to ask questions that the lowest common denominator is thinking. If you notice them too much that's probably not a good thing (like when they try to be funny).
What people take offence with in the replies is the fact that you chose to highlight women when they are fairly new to the commentating game and aren't any worse. Not liking her voice is whatever. No one can force anyone to like anything. It's still just an individual preference and has little to do with women.
Hopefully you learned something about yourself today and recognized how certain things and phrases might come off. You can act sexist without it being your intention. Realizing that and acknowledging it is growth.

Not at all. I’ve obviously said sexist remarks in the past and stopping that is part of growing as a person. I’m sure most have done similar. Doesn’t mean I can’t change and call out stuff like that when I see it. We should all try and be better.I'm not going to risk engaging in that conversation with a moderator, a ban has already been suggested to me for balanced posts in here. But that is a mightily convenient argument for you, posts that may be old, or may be a joke but are patently sexist, versus my contextualised and caveated post about female commentators. It is an incredible double standard.

Some commentary, or most of it is garbage. Matterface, Dixon, Keown etc.Commentary has become very cliched and stereotypical across the sport. We need more individualism and uniqueness in commentators.
You just seem weirdly obsessed with women’s football despite not appearing to watch it from what I can gather. No argument from me on that point. But you chose to take the 'results' of your search to the public form with the pretty blatant insinuation that sexism is behind any thoughts of mine on womens football, and women in mens football, and if there was any grey area around that insinuation you clarified it with the follow up post. It was a cheap and unnecesary shot in my opinion as while you might disagree with any or all of my opinions on these issues, I know wholeheartedly that 'sexism' isnt behind any of them, and accusing any dissenting voice of that just makes it easier for somebody like Joey Barton to cry foul. I critique it as I would any growing and contentious issue and pretending everything should be integrated with the click of a finger doesnt help anything
Ok in other countries but I tend to hit the mute button on Premier League coverage with the strong English accents on women.I'm not a sexist it's just women's voices are not appropriate for football.

You’ve said female commentators are bad, you think the heads of football are pushing women’s football despite the fact nobody watches it, you’ve stuck up for Joey Barton on the topic and you’ve just regularly waded in on things involving women in football. It’s very rarely a comment on something good about the women’s game and nearly always some form of critique, or discussion about how it’s not the men’s game or not the same sport or whatever.
Sexy voice, lingerie......As long as they have a sexy voice is all that matters.
There is some incredibly bad male ones too. Lets be fair. Commentators and pundits.
Shit, we had to listen to Joe Cole and Lanky piss the other week.
amazingNo, Ive watched it, and as its an emerging sport the last few years have thrown up a number of 'hot topic' moments that probably generate more online discussion. This thread for example, is only a day old but its generated a lot of posts, many of which ive responded to. Thats not obsession, its just engaging with a topic as its on the table. Ive about 13500 posts here, the proportion of them that are related to womens football probably represents my interest in it, or at least in the discussions about womens involvement in the mens game. As for the cherry picking here, Im not going through these things on repeat anything ive said about them are there for you to read still, but I will say that my opinion about them being different sports is one that has been offered by actual female players. Youre projecting controversy onto it to suit whatever opinion youve formed about my feelings on womens football.
Again, I find it very very rich to be lectured here by somebody whose posting history is so chequered and blatantly sexist. It just doesnt wash with me. I asked initially to not make this a conversation as i feel with you being a moderator I am hamstrung, and it will also derail a thread about commentary. Im happy to message privately if you feel the need.
Who’s the Cnut that shouts the players name every time said player shoots? He sounds like a complete bloody idiot. Some commentary, or most of it is garbage. Matterface, Dixon, Keown etc.
Rather listen to a commentary team of Dizzy Rascal and Graham Norton.
amazing
Ok enjoy everyone else telling you the same thing.
So to sum up you think that the commentator is pants because of the tone of her voice?First of all to respond Id have to narrow immediately to football. I couldn’t possibly reply to this. My past is too chequered.Well Ive been a member here 16 years and I think it has been said or insinuated a handful of times. This is the nature of discussing potentially delicate things, as I mentioned in the OP here. Judging by the supposed risk of being banned, it seems as if female tennis players nipples might have been safer ground to cover.
