Appointing Solskjaer was a mistake

I don’t think Ole is ready for this - but not many managers would be. There is a disconnection between the board and first team. We slightly improved our defence, yet our midfield and attack was allowed to be depleted of options.

This was always going to be a long season with yet another failure to get all business done in a summer window.

Just like waking José - there is no quick fix. We needed a steady change of the guard. But yet another slow as feck window will cost us.

Why is Ole getting blame here? Not enough quality players and knowing how to build off summer transfer windows is to blame, that's been the story for years now.

The team he rolled out again today and changes he made had all the chances to get some result. But was let down multiple times for a lack of player execution.

In hindsight, that could very well be the club's 3rd worst decision post-fergie after Moyes and Sanchez.

Because people don’t know any better. There was nothing in this loss to blame the management. Youngest team in the premiership. It will take time. But time will not be on the cards if fans are as idiots as this.

Does anyone believe that another manager would do better? This team is the weakest since Fergie left.

Rashford and Martial are expected to bang in at least 50 goals between them for us to compete which is something the haven't done.
McTominay is expected to be a regular this year and there are question marks about whether he is good enough.

the depth of this side if everything goes tits up makes me wanna cry. I don't think Poch or even Fergie could make this team work.

Yes they do, deluded about how good this team is/could be.

Squads not good enough and we’ve had a shocking summer not signing midfielders so he’s up against it right away. That said he probably isn’t the right manager unfortunately.
And missing lukaku and Sanchez! Our frontline is led by unproven kids and with zero back up.

Probably a mistake.

But no manager could fix this on the back of a 70mil spend.

Does anyone believe that another manager would do better?
Sadly a lot of people do think this. They'll tell you that Pep should be here. The big question is why isn't he? I can think of one big foreheaded reason why to start us off.

I agree this is the United weakest team I can remember, but FFS 12 points in the last 12 games in the premier its relegation form for sure. We surely should do better than that.

I do we have seen Klopp get into a champions league final / mount a league challenge with Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum as his engine in the midfield. The difference between being a world class coach is that he's given them information / instructions that play into their strengths despite them being considerably average. He's not relied on them to come up with solutions from their own intuition (something Ole, Jose and Moyes have in common).

Last season Poch picked up some fantastic results with injuries to Dier, Kane / losing Dembele he mounted a top european campaign with Winks and bloody Sissoko as the identity of his midfield.

Fans downplay the relevance a manager has to the identity of a team vs the players contributing in it. Madrid have one of the best squads in football and despite their success in Europe they still lack identity even when they had Ronaldo. The identity of a successful team is consistent with the representation of ethics as opposed to the surnames associated. That is why under Ole we could have Salah, Mane and De Bryune and still have conundrums such as being unable to break down a Palace defence. The problem with a teams Identity is the foundation needs to be laid behind closed doors that's the DOF / owners jobs to accommodate the structure to have a chance at success.

What this club needs is a visionary, Ole is impulsive and it shows in why the team seems so unprepared during games, he took this job immediately without any considerations to how he makes himself a success. He didn't care about the outdated regime of reporting to Woodward, the only person in the useless coaching staff to have reservation about what's above him was Phelan but he has been decieved too.

I don't think he could have done any better today.

Harry was out of position with the header on the first goal. DeGea is back to sucking again. No one can take a penalty apparently.

Only complaints with Ole are we need Alexis as no. 10 instead of Lingard, but with Alexis under transfer bid not sure what options he has.

Also bringing on Mata seems a waste. Push Pogba further up & have Scot cover the back line while Harry and Victor spray passes. Far more effective imo. And maybe sub in Pereira for Rashford. Or even Gomes. I really wish we didn't resign Mata. No legs.

But those are all errors from a DoF standpoint that I think Ole is doing his best to deal with. We are pressing & creating chances which is an improvement over any of our last 3 managers. He just doesn't have any options besides Lingard, Rashford who seem to be the weak links in our attacks.

Let's be real, appointing Ed was a mistake. Whatever commercial deals he's struck have clearly been gulfed by by the money he's cost the club in prize money, wasted transfer spend, and brand devaluation.

I honestly thought that the benefits of a relatively demanding preseason would have extended further than GW3, but the wheels have already come off.

This could be a very long season (well, maybe not for Ole...)

Ok what today was different to yesteryears? This has nothing to do with Ole. Ole at least is clearing the dross and giving youth a chance.

When Sanchez was first signed, I always thought that he would be brought in to play behind Lukaku in the middle since Rashford and Martial would cover both wings.
There must be some behind-the-scene reasons on why Mourinho continued to stick him on the left wing, and this caused instability to the whole squad. Up till now, no one knows how to use him at all.

We need to go in serious dive in the table before some people realise it was the wrong appointment.

Despite it was pretty clear for most from the off.

He is out of his depth simple as.

There is a middle ground between thinking another manager would do better and being happy with Ole. If OGS cannot be held responsible in some regard for a defeat at home vs Crystal Palace, what's his role then ?

to train and select the players the board give him.
Which aren't particularly good and are liable to lose against Crystal Palace under circumstances like today.

20% win since he has been appointed as permanent manager. There’s no middle ground in that. This is relegation level.

Nah Ole isnt good enough. Team isnt good enough to challenge or win tough games, but at home to Palace is down to the manager. He is here for more than half a year with a full summer window and pre season. We are clueless under him, simple as. No improvement. If our only improvement comes from buying new players, what do we need Ole for?

Chelsea look like a new team attacking wise with a transfer ban and a manager there for less than a third of Ole. A couple of defenders and they will look bright again. We cant seem to find/appoint an actual excellent manager. Jose and Van Gaal were finished and Moyes and Ole are amateurs

Just because the manager isn’t the only problem DOESN'T mean you should make do with an average manager! How senseless is that?

If anything we desperately need a better manager now more than ever

Amazing that we have only won three times since I was screaming and crying on the floor of the lounge after watching Rashford bang that penalty in against PSG.

3 wins in 15 matches LVG’s worst run and is only the second time we have done it in the PL era.

You are right about clearing players out, until the cup start we do not know if he is giving the kids a chance. Axel has not been brought on. Greenwood has had scant playing time. Chong is in the U-23's again along with Garner and Gomes is the perpetual 19th man. I am looking forward to the kids playing. However his bench still has some of the usual faces. Lingard is still there stinking up the team. He still has to shift a lot of players and it could be tough going watching United until he does.

We cant beat Palace without more time?

I mean klopp is clearly a better manager but at the same time he also had time patience shown. His results in the league weren't great to begin with either but you could see what he was aiming for. Over time he got players in that helped and he's now been there for four years?

For United it's clear we lack a cm, a lb and a rw, and as United and how much money we bring in, we should have that advantage of being able to bring them in easier.

Our bench is an issue but I do wish Ole would make changes earlier. I am wondering if ole just doesn't trust Mata for a long time and given the number of youth already he doesn't wanna throw in another three (mason, garner and gomes)

Weve tried previous winning managers and we've seen how that's gone with lvg and Jose. There's no guarantee on how others would so (Conte, Allegri etc)
But I want to see Ole given this season and next season but more so a better transfer window otherwise we won't escape this loop we are stuck in

Almost half a season worth of games and we've won 3 games. Utter shambles.

If this wasn't Ole, he'd be sacked in a matter of moments.

Deep down we all know it was. His approach to management and coaching is simply "What would Fergie do" the only problem with that is you have to be SAF for those methods to work and clearly he isn't Sir Alex.

I try not to criticise him too much because the bald cnut offered him the job and Ole would be crazy not to accept. Top managers aren't a secret, you don't find elite club managers in the Norwegian league in their mid 40s.

People do realize that we've missed 2 penalties right?
His lineup selection and unwavering loyalty towards Lingard can be blamed, but irrespective, we score the pen and its suddenly a different game altogether.

Probably a mistake.

Exactly

He’s doing everything in his power to make it work. Dropped the mediocre defenders (Jones, Young, Smalling) whilst shipping out Lukaku and probably Sanchez, it’s what the majority of fans wanted.

Unfortunately just like Mourinho last summer he wasn’t backed. We’re desperate for a right winger and possibly 2 midfielders.

Why shouldn't he get the blame? We did not lose to a top team, we lost to Crystal Palace who lost their RB to us and didn't replace him at all, things have gone sour with their best player, they bought lesser players than others (compared to other midtable teams). OGS should take the blame for this defeat.

It's not been perfect but with any luck we'd be sitting on 9 points right now.

Ole cannot be expected to take penalties, make basic saves or get the VAR guys to do their job.

And yes, he's basically done what everyone was screaming for.

He's giving young players a chance and he's dropped most of the ones people wanted gone

Lukaku and Fellaini sold too and Sanchez most likely on his way too.

We are at the start of a big rebuild. We have a young team with new players bedding in.

Today was very disappointing, but you cannot be calling for the manager's head after 3 games, al of which we arguably deserved to win and were three better side in. We got mugged today by a very experienced manager fielding a very experienced team. They came for a 0-1 smash and grab and unfortunately got away with it twice.

What's out record since the PSG game in all comps?

It must be brutal.

That game has/had DELUDED so many of our fans and the club itself.

It was a MASSIVE fluke of epic proportions.

IF, and hopefully it won’t happen but IF we go on a bad run, several matches without a win or worse will Ole do the honourable thing, sit down with Woody and offer his resignation?
The decision then announced as leaving by mutual consent?

I’m putting this here as I think this will be the outcome and before Christmas, but as I say I hope against all odds it doesn’t happen. Alas my eyes and ears don’t deceive me and what worries more just as much as what I see on the pitch is what I hear off it.

It didn't take long for people to start bashing Ole. How on earth is this his fault? He can't force the board to back him. If the idiots upstairs tell him he can't have certain players to strengthen the team there's not a whole lot he can do. We have to give him time and allow for blips like today. I'm sure he'll get it right. This season might be a long one though.
