Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

I'm surprised as he was a good character with a good story, brutal

I was reading that it was written as an origin story and entry point the next Batman movie coming out, so from that perspective it makes sense in that he has no he thinks of as family anymore. He learned that that was a weak spot and a danger to him.

I know it's popular but at the same time I don't know anyone who watches it. I tried it and just couldn't get into it. I tend to favor things set against historical backdrops or spy thrillers though so it obviously doesn't fit in those categories.
I couldn't get through season 1. I'll have to try again.

Going through STATION ELEVEN with the bairns this time. When I am A-B ing a show like Silo, for instance, with Station Eleven, the contrast is stark. Station Eleven is really incredibly well-directed and shot, and the acting is superb. Silo is a Taco Bell 99¢ burrito and Station Eleven is a Michelin rated restaurant. Hiro Murai is director on some of these, and Patrick Somerville wrote the episodes and is show runner.

Mackenzie Davis is my kind of actor. There’s always something lurking behind her eyes, she plays intense very well. Strong, conflicted characters are her specialty. See Halt And Catch Fire if you aren’t on board yet.

Second time through, I’m noticing how many things they are tying together in each episode. The show really is a lot better than the book. My kids aren’t super into it yet, only having imbibed two episodes, and so to you thinking of watching this, the story really doesn’t click into place until episode 4. Keep watching!
I just finished it and it got a great deal better after Ep4 or so. There are many things I really liked about it but why did everyone seemingly forget that Tyler orchestrated murder and mayhem, often of their friends, and waltz away into the sunset all happy happy joy joy?

Is that anything to do with Batman? If so that will be a hard nope from me.
It's set in the same universe and references to crime families mentioned in that story, but Batman has no presence in this. It may as well be a regular gritty crime show with some very mild cartoonish behavior by some characters. Colin Farrell s portrayal alone is worth the price of admission IMHO

That is definitely one of the reasons I picked up the book, to see if it explained it better. In the book,
Tyler never has any redeeming qualities, he's just an End Times Prophet wacko who wants to bang little girls. It's interesting you point that out, because in the show they take great pains to show that Tyler was broken by his father not being around, and then his mom getting nutty, and the only thing holding his fragile psyche together was the Station Eleven graphic novel. In the show, Tyler and Kirsten are like brother and sister united by the graphic novel, but it does absolutely gloss over the part where Tyler had some children strap mines to their chests and blow up David Cross, among other hits.
So the book sets it up differently and it doesn't feel as unearned.

I think you have to enjoy wild theory stuff. Historical stuff is kinda predictable, spy stuff has been done to death, severance is such a new concept that there’s no reference point for it in tv history. Its nerdy, but its so cool.

Severance reminds me of The Prisoner, somewhat. I think the further you get into the show, the more the wacky acting and nonsensical details (like the 5 minute dance party reward) make more sense because
the characters' minds have no reference points for what is normal and know nothing of the outside world. In their minds, everyone has a dumb job like this and they compete for useless trinkets like Chinese finger traps.
That said, there are a couple of characters who need a good slap.

I'll give it a go but it strikes me as a show that disappears up its own backside being so pleased with itself. It struck me a wanabee watched Brazil and wanted to make something similar. That might be unfair as I only watched a few episodes. The again I only got through 1 season of Mr Robot and had enough after a few episodes of season 2. So it might not be for me.

Yes but no.

It's about the rise of Penguin and although it's set in Gotham, it's more like a crime series. The Batman doesn't feature
I'm so sick of anything and everything superhero related that I suspect that even this association would grind.

Look, I like the show. I like several of the actors. But there are people here saying it’s a top 5 all time show — and it just isn’t. It’s good. It’s not great. If anything, it plays like A Very Special Episode of Black Mirror. I’m watching it because I just so happened to have finished season 1 a couple weeks before season 2 debuted.

I’m with you on Mr. Robot, that show, oy vey. At the end of season 1 I was like, you’re fecking kidding me. If Rami Malek isn’t the most overrated actor in the planet, then he’s no lower than 2nd.

It’s a story about rival gangs vying for control of a city, no one has any special powers. The characters are interesting, I’d recommend it.

If you can get over the super hero detail then Colin Farrell and Cristin Millioti are pretty great in it. It really does try to avoid the usual comic book associations. They slip some comic book stuff in at the end of the last episode to lead into the movie but go out of their way to avoid it for the other 8 hours or whatever. I wouldn't say its an amazing plot or anything but as a vehicle for the lead pair to chew scenery its great fun.

Recommended british crime-thriller tv shows - ideally on Netflix/Prime/iPlayer/ITV Hub?

I've watched Confession, Line of Duty, Happy Valleys - all brilliant.

I was this way as well and I've almost not seen any superhero TV shows, including stuff like The Boys. The Penguin genuinely is great television though. You really don't feel like this is another DC/Marvel thing and its great acting all around.
