Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Just finished Fleabag and thought it was really great.

Any recommendations for something of the same ilk? Kind of a half-comedy, half-drama. Reminded me a bit of Ricky Gervais' 'After Life', except a lot better.
If you're after half-comedy, half-drama, Bojack Horseman is great. As is Louie - if you can make it past his real-life creepiness.

After years of never quite getting around to watching it, I've just found all of The Shield on All 4. Rejoice! Hopefully it's as good as everyone says and I get to binge it over the coming weeks.
Its a lot of fun. Sets the tone well right from the first episode, its crazily tense at times, and the ending is really well handled. I've been thinking about giving it another watch recently.

I see that the pilot of Swamp Things is getting rave reviews.
Yeah DC Universe seem to be knocking it out of the park when it comes to their TV shows . The pilot had a feeling of The Thing, definitely going for the horror vibe and it felt like a movie.

The cinematography and production value of TV shows has become so good in the last few years. Shows like True Detective S03, Chernobyl and obviously GOT have taken things to another level.

True. It's part of the reason some movie producers are showing a concern for the rise of streaming .

Yes, streaming services like Netflix has played a big role in that. The Witcher series and the LOTR series is only going to raise the bar even higher (hopefully) . We are truly in the golden age of TV

the lead in Fleabag was the writer for Killing Eve. Maybe give that a go

Yeah, I've watched the first few and it doesn't mess about does it?! Really fast pace and pretty intense. Think I'm gonna like it.

Yeah, it caught my eye too yesterday. I’ll definitely give it a go.

A good recommendation for an Anime for a person that has never watched Anime in his life?

Final Space is well worth a watch. Best animated show I've watched in a long time, can't wait for season 2...

I found the pilot very generic, quite boring and not funny - is it worth sticking to and does it get better, or is it more of the same and just not for me?

I think so but I enjoyed it from the very start so it may not be for you. I like that there is a plot that they stick to throughout the 10 episodes and it builds to a big conclusion rather than adventure/villain of the week stuff like Rick and Morty.

I like the season plot shtick, but I'm not sure the tone is one I'll enjoy. Might try a couple more episodes though.

A good recommendation for an Anime for a person that has never watched Anime in his life?
I’m not really a die hard Anime fan but I had seen some things like Akira and fist of the North Star as well as enjoying Drangon Ball Z but I had heard of DeathNote and that it was highly regarded so I bought it for going off shore once and I thought it was brilliant. I was absolutely gripped from the 2nd episode. So i’d Always recommend that and it’s on Netflix. Just never watch the live action movie Netflix made of it.

Another that I’ve read is highly regarded that I’ve always meant to watch is Attack on Titan which is on Netflix. I’m sure it had a live action movie made of it as well but it’s supposed to be incredible. I just haven’t got around to it. There is Love,Death+Robots, again on Netflix but I’m not sure where it would fall in to the Anime category but it’s a series of short stories varying from 5minutes to 20 minutes long but the animation is some of the best you’ll see.

Cheers, got the same recommendation from someone else as well. So will start with that.
The first arc is absolutely brilliant, I would say it's some of the best anime ever made. Goes off the rails a bit in the second arc, but still it's fantastic.

As @Andersons Dietician said above, Attack On Titan is very good, so is One Punch Man
And if you are looking for movies, anything made by Studio Ghibli is fantastic. Your name is the latest big hit when it comes to anime movies, fantastic visuals and IMO is worth checking out. There is so much great content in anime and I've mostly tried to highlight the newer stuff. I'm no expert on Anime, so for more suggestions, myanimelist is a very good site to find anime that matches your taste, also there is an Anime thread in redcafe IIRC

The tone can be surprising. The humour can be silly but there was a moment around the middle of the season that was surprisingly emotional and the show really lands it well. It's what made me think "Oh, this is different and quite good."

The fluidity of the actual animation is top-notch too if that's of any interest to you. Shits all over many modern popular animated shows.

Couldn't find a Riviera thread and certainly didn't want to start one.

My wife watches it and I drop in and out. Out mostly.

Can't work out if it's the truly awful dialogue or the acting that plummets this to the bottom end of …….. just to the bottom end.

"It's just like some crazy f*cking nightmare"

Do not watch. How did this rubbish get second series?

So, The Wire consistently comes out as one of the best TV shows ever made in various online polls. Over the years I've started to watch it from the beginning, but have never made it to the end of the first episode. Is it really worth persevering with?

It is, but the build up lasts for a few episodes, and is crucial. I worry for your attention span though, if you struggle with one episode.

I was same with GOT a few false starts but eventually got into it. I just feel cheated when I invest so much time into a series and it turns out crap, despite the high ratings.

I started watching it 4 times, getting only 2 or 3 episodes in each time, before finally persevering and it turned out to be probably the best show I've watched up there with other great shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. Series 4 (tied with series 4 of Breaking Bad) is my favorite TV. Series 5 isn't as great but largely because series 4 was so brilliant and not because it was poor. My advice is to push through to the end of series 1 and by then you will be hooked.

Fleabag - brilliant and I hope they change their minds and make a season 3
After Life - loved this sad and funny. If you like Ricky Gervais you will love this.
Handmaids Tale - very very good indeed. Season 2 wasn't perhaps quite as good as season 1 but season 3 seems to be heading in a very good direction indeed - I can't wait for S3E$ next week.
Chernobyl - very very good indeed.
Killing Eve - fun but getting a bit repetitive IMO
Tin Star - has its moments as well - I'm half way through season 2
Bosch - decent especially if you are a fan of the books although the latest season isn't engaging me as much as the previous ones have.

Agree with most of these but I thought Tin Star was absolute dung of the highest order, pure shite.

Really like Bosch and I enjoyed the last season, it's just an easy watch really.

I'm torn on whether to watch the new season of The Handmaid's Tale, I'm not sure I could be arsed with yet another season of
her being miserable and getting abused, and endless close-ups of her face. They really cocked up the ending of season two.

Tin Star is an odd one. I nearly stopped watching and then there were a couple of good episodes that keot me interested. Not as good as the rest though.

The ending of makes more sense in season 3. I'm really enjoying season 3. It could be very good indeed if the rest of season 3 is as good as the first 3 episodes.
