Antony | On loan to Real Betis

2 assists. Him and Isco really match up well.
Just watched it and he is playing out of his mind at the moment. Opposition obviously not very good but besides an excellent goal and 2 assists, one of which was a great driving run to set up Isco, he also had an excellent touch and piece of skill for the pre assist as the young folks call it for the other goal scored. Shame Betis probably cannot afford him because right now I think they would happily give him a 10 year contract.

If he has half a season like lingard did then I really hope we bin him off for any valuation that does PSR justice. They guy not suited for the system or the league and getting him off our books should be a priority

Unlike Sancho he never made a fuss about not getting minutes and once he got some it always looked like he actually gave a shit, worked his socks off and tried his best...

I'd have no problems with returning and giving him another go. If not, his performances have shown he can shine elsewhere and give us back some of those millions we paid.

I hope we get decent fee. I’d love to think if we are stuck with him he’d play like that for us but I just can’t see it.

I would argue he looked angry, I think the personal life/accusations weighed him down as did the fee.

Always maintained he's a good player who we simply overpaid for.

He's now in a league that suits he's style as he wouldn't gain most of the space he now has in la liga or Europe in the prem. Not explosive enough to be a top premiership forward or winger but comfortably good enough for a top five la liga or serie A side IMO.

When you have Casemiro and Bruno dominating Sociedad physically (in one sequence Casemiro looked like he easily overtook a Sociedad player that had the run on him before he started chasing), it goes to show the physicality or lack thereof can play a huge part in players being successful in certain leagues while struggling in the EPL.

Even Zirkzee looked relatively quick and was able to get away from players after beating them.

Pleased for Antony though, looking great and La Liga may just be the league for him. I don't know that he'll ever look as good in the EPL (would be brilliant if he did and worked out as a RWB) but the physicality aspect has to factor in our purchases going forward.

Agree with the first bit 100%. His failure to make it here was never for a lack of trying.

Having him back here is a trap we've fallen into before though. I'd say we sell to the highest bidder, his stock is unlikely to get higher from here and he's proven a terrible fit for the Pl.

If it makes better sense financially, hopefully we can at least loan him to Betis again next season, with them covering next seasons payment we need to make for him, with an obligation to buy at the end of next season.

Yeah, the PL has really escalated this past decade or so in terms of building physically imposing squads. It’s probably part of the reason players like Antony and Sancho really struggles in this league. We really need to get many more such physical profiles into our squad as we’re just too slow and laborious.

I’m happy Antony is doing well and looks to be enjoying his football. Hopefully we get a satisfactory fee/offer from someone and both parties can move on.

If he wasn’t already a United player we’d love him for right wing back. Should try it still if no big offers come in.

Of course I'd be all for selling him. But I was playing with the thought that we couldn't get rid... him staying for another season wouldn't be as bad as having Sancho back

Oh fair. I'd take a 25man squad of Antonys over having that numpty back.

Hope he keeps up his form because at this rate I can see the bigger Serie A and La Liga clubs willing to pay €40-50M for his services, assuming his wages are around €120K

The loan is working out great for him and puts us in such a better position. His stock is rebuilding and his confidence will be recovered.

We either get a reasonable fee for him now or he comes back reinvigorated and full of confidence.

Got to be pleased with this, as others have said he always put the effort in and tried it just wouldn’t happen for him.

Really happy to see him doing so well, should look to stay in Spain or move to Italy.
