Antony | On loan to Real Betis

If he makes contact with studs to the heel/ankle area, you can defend the red card decision. Even if it's harsh, it's incredibly stupid to go to ground like that in such a nothing situation.

Surprised it wasn't overturned. Hits the underside of the foot of the player with his shin.

That being said morons that tackle that late, late deserves to be sent off.

Was he anticipating the pass going sideways and trying to block it, or as I have always suspected, is he just incredibly dim?

He doesnt, the replay is much better than the posted clip

Never a red if you see the replay
But he did get a red.
A hopeless, completely unnecessary, no chance of achieving anything with the tackle, left his team in a bad position, and it forces a break/suspension on Antony now that he’s on a great run.
Would absolutely call that moronic.

LaLiga have VAR (didn’t intervene) and he did touch the player (as opposed to what other are claiming).

They are terrible, slow, boring, no goals, no flair, no nothing. So strange that they're beating the incredible PL teams.
This La Liga bashing is so absurd and childish.
You can’t deny that the pace of La Liga or any other league for that matter is slower than the PL. that’s fairly undeniable. Sometimes that’s all that a player like Anthony needs, a slower pace to work at.
It doesn’t mean that Spanish teams or Italian teams can’t beat PL teams in European competitions, sometimes slower with more control is better. But when it comes to competing in the PL you better be fast

What a genius! He got a red card on purpose so as not to spoil his stats in the match against RM

probably the most disappointing thing about antony for me is how slow he turned out to be. i think with limits of strength and other limits, pace is essential, and maybe we saw glimpses but i dont think he was even quick over 10 yards. there was no acceleration and he never seemed to be about to run clear of defenders, he played as if they were always right on his shoulder.

He did dribble all the way from their own goal area. It was a pretty good assist.

I’d love more of our players mustering up lame, weak, assists like this. I can’t think of who would. Garnacho would carry the ball forward like this, but he wouldn’t play the pass. I guess Bruno can. But that’s it.

I don’t think he gets past that first defender in the Prem.

Oh not seeing we should’ve kept Antony, it was clearly not working in the PL, but we don’t see this kind of run and pass in our team.

We see it in the PL, just not at United. Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth score goals that look like this every other week.

Based on most of the posts in here we're gunna absolutely batter Sociedad.

That's insane red card, world class.

United were holding him back!

I don’t think it’s unfair to say that it’s played at a slower pace. How that is an agenda I don’t know
Slower pace whatever you like, La Liga has dominated Europe over past decades and you see Real/Barcelona struggle against minnows in a way prime City/Liverpool didn't.

It's not some farmers league.

Which no one, except you and some other posters that struggle to read apparently, has said. What people have highlighted is that a player like Antony is going to strive in games where the tempo and intensity is not that of the Premier League. That doesn't make the PL better or anything, it's just one of the characteristics of the league.

You could open a debate as to whether the fact the league is less intense is an advantage in European competitions, in the tail end of seasons particularly, combined with the Spanish football culture of control.

But none of that has any impact on Antony's performances right now, or his inability to affect games consistently in England.

The way I would describe that challenge is someone that is trying incredibly hard to make a legitimate tackle, but is also so stupid he has no idea that he has absolutely zero chance of winning the ball.

Full backs in the Premier league are a lot more physical though. Which Antony struggled against.

I didn’t say it was. I also said that they were beating PL teams in European competitions.
However my point remains, the pace of the league is slower than the PL, which is probably the fastest paced league in the world. How is that not true and how does that equate to others being a “farmers league”?

Why is it on here if you say La Liga can be poor at times , it’s automatically calling it a farmers league ? To be honest I prefer watching Seria A or La Liga but I don’t class it as a “farmers league”

As for Antony , hopefully a Spanish club comes in for him during the summer he seems to be doing well over there.

I think it's true, I do wonder how you/others have quantified the PL as the fastest paced league in the world. Eye-test?

Other than that, even if so, how much slower is La Liga? Which has been the top European league if you look at the last 20 years.

And even beyond that, what analysis makes it so clear that Antony thrives more because the league is slower? There are players that do worse/better in leagues for various reasons. Isak didnt hit anywhere near this level in La Liga, what is the factor?

As if managers, set-up, tactics, confidence, team mates are no factor for how a player performs.

I think more than 80% of our current squad currently doesn't reach their level at Manchester United. I think the pace of the league is a factor, but not the only one and not necessarily the main one. If I compare Mazraoui before Amorim to Mazraoui now, in the same fast paced PL, it's a huge difference. So on the flip side, if a player leaves the PL and does well, the standard factor doesn't have to be the pace of the league.

This whilst ignoring the fact that it's mainly people suggesting not only that La Liga is slower, but the defenders are poor there.
