Exactly. I never answer on posts like that; "if not him, who" or "name x players better than y player" etc...
We have scouting department. Dozen of scouts who cover whole world. They are payed to find players in every category. So nobody can't tell me that there is no much cheaper right wingers similiar or better than Antony.

To be clear here; i am sucker for skill so i want Antony and few months ago i said that i want him more than any other player this summer. But it is a shame that we always must overpay players because our scouts are shit (or because we want to "back our manager").
In fairness you can’t just say “get someone better for less money”. It’s meaningless.

“get a whole team of world beaters for £50m - isn’t that the scouts’ job? If not, what are we paying them for?”

I‘m getting sick of the incessant moaning of certain pathetic individuals.

-Darwin Nunez goes to Pool for 100 mill and you moan: Why didn‘t we get him?
-Antony may cost 90+ million and you moan: It‘s too much, we are always overpaying.

-Frenkie de Jong wanted to stay at Barça and you moan: he doesn‘t want to come here we don‘t want him.
-Antony wants to come here and you moan:
we don‘t want him.

-Frenkie de Jong is a priority target and you moan: he is not a true dm.
-Casemiro, the best dm in the world comes here and you moan: he is not a playmaker.

Should I go on? You Miserable fecking cnuts!?

Slow clap

Thank you for this... thank you

I refuse to believe there are no comparable players in Europe (never mind globally) that wouldn't cost 100m.

I know I know, ETH worked with him before, but this lack of flexibility might cost him at some point

Yep! I pop in here most mornings, having my coffee, and its the same posts over and over. I had to double check did I refresh the page from the previous day! Yes we get it, the fee is quite high. Get over it.

I guess the point us if we actually looked beyond ajax we could find similarly talented players we might not get rinsed for
We need top players that the manager likes, not the cheap, poorer version. So which RW has as much talent as Antony and would move for half the price?

Kulusevski will cost Spurs around £35m and we bought Richarlison for £60m this window. Richarlison is proven in the league and can play anywhere in front three. I think you are overpaying by around 25-30 million on this kid especially because wingers from Holland usually struggle in the Premiership. Look at Ziyech, Bergwijn, etc recently. Maybe he will do great but it's a pretty big risk.
I’d much rather pay the money for Antony than bloody Richarlison - we already know he is average.

Kulusevski is a great deal though.

Just take the loss, your ages and stats were miles out, you were either wrong or knowingly altered them to prove your point.

Roonster09 has called you out on them for all to see, Antony is much further ahead in his development than diaz was at the same age, hence the higher fee. Not that it matters, Liverpool got a gem at a good price, fair play, it happens, hopefull we'l be saying the same about Malacia in a few month.
You don’t even sound half convincing at all and you know that.

Comparing them at same age is rather meaningless here. Liverpool isn’t paying 37.5m (+12.5m add on) for 22 year old version of Diaz, they are paying for a far more established version of Diaz who just scored 14 goals in 18 league games for Porto, and who also has very high dribbling stats and average rating too.

As of this moment, Antony is nothing like that. His stats in Dutch league is underwhelming. He has nothing to justify for that amount of money at all. We are purely buying a player for his potential/talent alone. No one ever pay that amount of money for an attacker with similar stats/standing as Antony before. We are probably the first.

I think he's talking to you?

Anyone from Brazil in this thread? What's the view on him in Brazil? New Neymar? A random bloke with big ego?

How has he performed in the national team?

It is not meaningless. Manager wants right winger with specific traits. He goes to DoF with request, Dof goes to head scout and give orders. Head scout gives orders to his scouts; "give me a list of right wingers with these traits".
That is how things work in most of clubs.

We, as a club, simply have wrong understanding what backing a manager means.
Sure, i am all for giving a manager certain player for who he thinks that is cruical for his style. But, in general, manager should not be the one who gives a list with names to Dof. DoF is the one who should give a list to manager (based on manager's wishes of course) and give manager right to choose from that list.

Having said that; ok, this summer i can understand why we are doing it like this but in future i expect that Dof and manager work as a team. Not DoF being manager's "go and get him, him and him" guy. In a long run, that just is not good.

We do it in FM style. Where a manager, Dof, agent and head scout is the same person.

I have to agree with this. Antony is not pulling up trees in Holland. The least you'd expect for this kind of money is for the player to be pulling up trees in Holland.

Antony has to play and work like he's never done before to be a success in the Premier League and go anywhere near to justify his price tag. This is Ronaldo/Bale type money for a 22 year old.

This is on Ten Hag. If he pulls it off and Antony grows into a player to justify the transfer fee then all credit to them both. If he doesn't it will fall on Ten Hag as the club actually backed him with atleast ONE first choice target.

We all know Casemiro and Martinez were not first choice targets. It could be argued that Eriksen or Malacia were.

If Real were buying Ronaldo off us with 2022 fees he'd be about £200-250m, it's incomparable.

That the fee we are paying is massively overpriced? That’s all I am saying, it just seem some of you disagree, hence the arguments.

Oh it’s an inflated price for sure. I think most agree it is and a lot of the reasons why it is have been mentioned in this thread.

Totally still think we should buy him though.

What metrics are you using?

The clips of him playing football. In comparison to average players he's not flying past how a Mbappe/Traore/Henry.

I wouldn't even say he's near Sterling, Mane or Rashford.

I'd put him in a Sancho, Saka and Mahrez category.

I know nothing about Antony. We are crying out for a left footed, right sided attacker since Greenwood's mask slipped. Buying a player from the Dutch league for that price does seem obscene, nobody can dispute that. But luckily i couldn't care less and hope he comes, purely based on Youtube vids.

Don't want to derail the thread but Richarlison stats for last two seasons (in Premiership ) - 40 apps, 13 goals and 33 apps and 11 goals. Antony in last two seasons in Dutch league - 46 apps 11 goals and 35 apps 12 goals. I know that is only part of the story but if you think Richarlison is average then what do you think of Antony?

That is a good point - Antony has clearly been no 1 target all summer right? You could also argue about Casemiro, although Erik wanted De Jong, he understood after the first minutes in EPL what we NEED is a CDM to bring some balance to the team.
