Well… yeah. I don’t disagree with any of this. I was just pointing out your Kane and Bellingham comparatives were flawed. Again, nobody has actually bid for Bellingham. If, say Liverpool dropped a £100m bid for Bellingham right now, then the scenario would be comparable to Antony.
In such a case — Dortmund, much like Ajax, would be within their rights to reject. Obviously. But equally, Bellingham, like Antony, would be within his rights to throw a bit of a strop at the club refusing a very sensible offer. And even further, Liverpool, like Man Utd, can feel a bit like the over the top valuation that they’re willing to pay is compensatory enough for approaching a player that a side doesn’t want to sell right now. All of these things can be correct.
I don't think his output is the problem, I would worry more about how well his playmaking and dribbling would translate to the PL.

People need to stop picking on Sancho. He has spent one season at United - the most dysfunctional United ever managed by Ole the cheerleader and then Ralf who isn't really a manager. Please, give the lad another season.
As for Antony, we desperately need a forward, and he wants to come, and ETH wants him. Most of us wanted this manager, so we have to trust him, especially with a player he has worked with before.

He made it clear he wanted to leave weeks ago. He said if a good offer comes in he wants it accepted.
If we've offered close to 70m euros that's pretty fair for a young winger who hasn't proven much yet. I can see why he would be angry.
I suspect it'll get settled soon as this doesn't help either club.
We badly need a RWF and Antony is a very good fit imo. His technical ability is superb and he can be an absolute joy to watch at times whilst exhibiting quick lateral movement which enables him to be a big threat in open play. But on top of having a high level of touch and technique, he's also an absolute live wire both from a defensive and offensive perspective and the intensity he plays at isn't match by any of our wide forwards.

From our perspective it would be overpaying but I think the investment in the long-term has the potential to pay off due the players potential and his age.

I think you have to worry about everything translating from the Dutch league.
His record isn't that great considering the numbers some have put up for dominant sides over there. It is a problem because at the moment we've got Ronaldo in a huff as the only serious goalscorer. Who's he creating for?

Huge upgrade, but still not enough. I still can't see how we keep a clean sheet when the goalie's making howlers every game. It just doesn't instill confidence.

It disrupts the opposition before a play is even made; they have to shuffle over to wherever the pace is in anticipation of the speedster receiving the ball in any open space whatsoever, and then they are desperate to not let that player turn and face them all the while, everyone else in his side can adjust their own positioning in accordance with what’s going on.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find top sides who don’t have that threat in at least one of their starting xi.
I think it depends on the situation. Antony shouldn't really do it since he signed a 5 year contract 2 years ago. I'd understand him more if he was already around at the club for 4 years, completely killing it extending his contract once or twice to get a better salary but also help the club in being able to get a decent selling fee. In that situation I would understand if he felt like it's really time to make a move to a bigger league. In comparison, Suarez was at Ajax for 3,5 years and he killed it from the first moment he arrived. He didn't go asking for a transfer after 2 seasons.
From Ajax's point of view it just doesn't make sense to sell on the best players after two seasons. Ajax wants to build strong teams as well and that can't happen if you are selling your best players after they've been at the club only 2 years. Ajax also wants to profit from the players qualities on the pitch, not just financially. From that perspective Ajax needs the player to stay (at least) 3 or 4 years. In these days it's not very realistic anymore to think the players will stay longer than that. However Ajax expecting to keep it's players for at least three years really isn't an unreasonable ask from Ajax. Ajax invests in the carreers of those players, Ajax also wants returns from that on the pitch. I do think Antony is out of line if he kicks a fuss after just being at the club for two years.
Nevertheless as I already said - regardless of what happens and how Antony behaves I think this deal is going to happen. 80m is an offer that's really getting to an amount that Ajax can't refuse. United will get back to Ajax, improve the offer and then I feel like they'll be talking about the details. Ajax will be looking to sign a replacement in the meanwhile (I hope Ziyech) and that will be it. It'll probably take about a week to be completed I'd say but I do believe it's happening.

I like Antony as a player but it's the price that worries me. He'll have a hell of a lot of living up to do to warrant such a pricetag.

Think this was mainly down to the fact we wouldn't pay the 80m they were looking at that time. Now we are willing to pay it, albeit late in the day, he can push a bit more if he had an agreement with Ajax to leave.

Its far too much money. Don’t care what anyone says, 80M Euros is far too much on him. And this is coming from someone who has been crying out for a winger like him, someone who has flair and gets past people. We’ve missed someone like that for a decade. But the price is nuts.
