Them, Real, Barca, PSG, Juve, City, Liverpool even Dortmund are good at it. But you’ve got football people doing the dirt there who know just what to do and when to unsettle players and grease transfers.

We’re miles behind in this regard, which surprises me in some ways, as you’d have thought a group of bankers would have transferable… skills.

It’s not Mbappe we’re trying to lure from PSG. Because lets be real here, Ajax are not in the ’Big club league’, And he Will be looking for a bigger move sooner than later. So I feel that Ajax are trying to price him out now. Which of course he Will kick up a fuss for.

Ajax has every right to price him out. He signed a 5 year deal with us two years ago. We know we are not the final destination of players and we accept that, but we are also not trading house that just wants to sell players on as quickly as possible. Ajax is actually a football club that wants to develop itself as well as it can and also want to perform on the pitch to the highest standards possible. We may not be Champions League favorites or serious contenders, but that doesn't mean we should just sell on our best players at every opportunity. If we feel like we need to develop the team more and profit more on the pitch from our best players, we have every right to do so.

We don't buy players to sell them on after one or two years. Ideally we'd keep them for 4 or 5 years and then sell them on. However we understand that 4/5 years might be a long time for the most outstanding players. However 2 years is simply too short. Ajax can't build a team if the best players keep leaving after 2 years every time. The player also has to understand that position of the club. Ajax is not going to keep him at the club against his wishes for 3 years. That's also going to cost Ajax a lot of money, because his contract will run out.

Nevertheless, as mentioned I do expect this deal to happen. 80m is definitely a good offer, but as Ajax didn't plan to sell him at all (it really is a year too early) Ajax are going to look for the absolute jackpot price here and Ajax have every right to do that.

I also find it quite strange how people here are always trying to blame Ajax for pricing players out. However, Harry Kane has been priced out of a move to teams being able to win trophies for his whole carreer. I don't hear anyone about that? Bellingham can't leave Dortmund, I don't hear anyone about that? Why is it such a disgrace if Ajax wants to keep a player that still has a three year contract left?

Ajax is completely in it's right. Whether Ajax asks 80m, 100m, 150m or says he's not for sale. Ajax don't want to lose him. However knowing that it's going to be inevitable at some prices, Ajax is just making sure that it's at least going to take an insane price to do so.

His speed of thought has impressed me the most about him, makes me more assured he'll do well in the PL.
 
Surprised by him not training though, seems very premature for me.
 
Antony was bought by Ajax in Feb 2020 for 13 million and two years on he is costing 90 million .
I'm not sure that would be money well spent

Try not to take it to heart, it's just an opinion and some peoples' interpretation - as well as some journalist speculation. It's all part and parcel of this hectic transfer window.

Plenty do, when Spurs didn’t let him leave to join City fans and the media alike were admonishing Spurs for being too obstructive. No serious bids or interest has come in for Bellingham this summer — strange comparison. They’ll probably start next summer which is when Dortmund are likely to let him leave for what they’d consider a fair price.

I still don't trust attackers from Dutch league. He scored 18 goals in 57 matches, against eredivisie teams.
Hardly a 80m player
 
So from getting rejected by Arnautovic, Rabiot and Sesko to Casemiro and Antony willing to leave a CL winner and going on strike for ManUtd.

Money talks I guess, but I like the direction where this is going.

Neither is Sancho, or Maguire and AWB is barely a 10m player. We want players that are better than what we have and since we’ve waited about all summer we now have to pay top dollar. These clubs don’t need to sell.

Ornstein tweeted last night and was followed up by Whitwell saying that we had a bid of €80m rejected, which they don’t expect us to increase upon. In which case, Gakpo seems more likely who has been valued at around half that figure
 
Stupendously overpriced for his output. We're massively looking to overpay on Ajax players this summer, it seems. I think it's one of the problems of such inflexibility.

Maybe you should read back. Early on in the thread the Man Utd fans were all convinced no one (including Man Utd) would be paying more than 50-60m euro's for Antony. Some Ajax fans who said it'd take at least 70-80m if Ajax were selling at all were laughed at. Now we've had Ajax rejecting an 80m offer.

I think every Ajax fan knows that if crazy amounts are put on the table, Ajax are going to be forced to sell. Nevertheless these days it happens on Ajax' terms. There where days when we sold Suarez to Liverpool for 26m euro's and on the next day they bought Andy Carroll for 35m or something. We won't be mugged like that anymore. Every player has a pricetag where saying no simply isn't possible anymore. However, Ajax have gotten to that point where that pricetag is at a level where Ajax is really an incredible compensation for selling a player against the wishes of the club.

Ajax fans wanted to keep Antony. Most realize this is going to be a hard one now and realize at these prices a deal is going to happen. If Ajax can sell Antony for 80M+ and get Ziyech back for about 30-ish most Ajax fans will probably be thrilled. It'd be good business for Ajax even if it's disappointing to see Antony leave this soon.

Situationally, from a standing start or on a burst of acceleration, but he doesn’t have raw ‘oh my god, he’s going to roast me’ pace that you want somewhere in a frontline, preferably.

If it’s not coming from the frontline, then at least have it in your fullbacks for that element of sheer terror and dread that keeps flanks honest.

We really need some top notch utilisers of the ball through the middle of the pitch to feed outwards and negate some of those pace issues should we land this guy and have a frontline of he, Sancho and… Ronaldo.
 
We have to accept, due to our own incompetence earlier, that we're definitely going to get fleeced this window. The big thing will be to try and keep salaries reasonable

To be honest I was just messing about. I saw some posts from multiple Ajax fans laughing about how crap we are now (which is true). I haven’t read the whole thread.

Because Dortmund have come out he's not for sale. Guess what, Ajax would be more likely to let Antony go at a price that you'd also consider a fair price as well next season. Why is it fine when Dortmund has that approach, but not when Ajax does? Ajax clearly stated it didn't want to sell Martinez and Antony this season. Yet you've kept chasing these players. That's why you're overpaying for them. If you're after players not for sale it's going to take crazy amounts.
 
He doesn't seem to compliment Sancho. Maybe he will improve his end product but seems a bit of a luxury player. With Sancho being potentially a playmaking winger on the other side we'd ideally need someone explosive with good end product / goal threat on the right.

Funny people comparing him to Sancho saying he will struggle. Sancho is struggling because the team is struggling. Sancho will come good and thrive under Ten Hag, no doubt when all the pieces are in place. I think Antony will be worth the money to have a front three of Sancho, martial and Antony would be nice. Get players in who know the system NOW. And build from there. We don’t have time to waste with this lot
