Gravenberg only had 1 year contract left, Antony 3 I believe. Then, there was a nasty trend goung on at Ajax, mainly related to agent Raiola, where young players stretch there contracts to be able to leave on a free. That was also about to happen with Gravenberg and as Ajax already suffered a lost a huge amount of money on transferred fees that way, they chose to let him go. And Ajax doesn’t get a truckload of cash from tv-rights as they do in the PL.
Besides that, Gravenberg was by far not as performant as Antony even though he has a shitload of talent.

They have a lot of leverage coming into a winter World Cup and his long contract.

All he has is their reputation for selling potentially impacting new signings if they prevent him from moving on, but that's not really going to happen.

It has nothing with what is fair or not. They can do whatever they want. He has contract with them. Nobody is forcing players to sign contracts with clubs and to sign them without specific clauses (minimum fee). He signed, he is payed to play for them and that is it.

I'm talking about it from our point of view.. I have no issues with a club wanting to keep a wantaway player who is under contract..
There is no way I would be annoyed at Ajax if they didnt want to sell their players..

If Ajax had a verbal agreement with Anthony about a fee they would accept, its between them.. If not, and its something that pisses Anthony off/other players off.. they can start including release clauses when they sign for clubs..

I wouldn't place any bet on this happening, the gap between what they want and what we would realistically pay is quite high, it would be Maguire level overpaying.
