You aren’t getting Martinez for less than what we paid, & you certainly aren’t getting an Antony for €40million. He may well not prove worth the money spent [we’ve got a few of those here already] but at the point of purchase you can’t say you overpaid when you weren’t getting him for less. Give him a season at least.
He had a year left with no intention of a renewal & only wanted to go to Bayern. Equating transfers is futile.

Could become one, but his shooting is not near as precise and consistent though. Don't get me wrong, his shooting is fine and very good at times, but Robben would just precisely curl them into the far corner time after time. Antony isn't there yet with his shooting. I do think he has the potential though. His shooting technique is there, his crosses are very dangerous, he's fast and he has the dribbles. He has more skills than Robben as well, but Robben didn't really need crazy skills to be very effective.
At least Antony proved himself in the Champions League. Antony is 3 yrs younger than Raphinha and has nearly the same record for the Brazil NT. If anything Antony > Raphinha.

I don't see that Antony can be as fast as Robben. But it's good to know he has potential to match Robben for his shooting. That skill alone worth gold.

IMO it's the budget and the talk of "Frenkie or bust" when it comes to midfield. Like if we get Frenkie then I don't see us meeting Ajax's ridiculous asking price, but if we miss on Frenkie then we'll reach for Antony to salvage the window, essentially. I think we can easily pass 120m but I don't think passing 200m spend is doable
I agree with you... But I wouldn't say raphina has "proved himself" in the epl... Well hasn't proved to be a 60 million euro player especially if you're just looking at stats like u just did with AntonyPlaying 11 games and scoring 3 goals isn’t proving yourself. This is the opposition who he has played against.
My biggest frustration would be not getting ETHs first choice signings. If we're getting Antony after all then that's terrific and I'm excited to see how he can develop at United.

Make sense. Ajax just lost their main striker, CM, CB, RB, and on top of that, their manager. They'll be very reluctant to sell another key player, unless the offer is too good to refuse; which is how that ridiculous 80m valuation coming from.

Mazraoui and Gravenberch had either run their contract down (Mazraoui) or were coming into the last year of their contract in Gravenberch's case. And Bayern took advantage because they're a club with a defined play style and a strategy, which both players were a potential fit for. And they had been working on those deals a long time before ten Hag was even appointed United head coach. I think Solskjaer was still manager when Bayern were working on those two deals from what I've read.
I remember reading a article from Mike Verweij in May, where he said that Ajax wouldn't sell Antony for less than €70m/€80m. I think if the price was lower, we'd have signed him by now.

But if you want to use that angle, then one club had its manager already in the club and were able to plan ahead, and the other had to wait for its new manager to sign on and look at targets.

He has intriguing skills but you really have to wonder about the relatively weak end product in a team that scores for fun against generally poor domestic competition.

That's what's annoying about the rumours that it's Cristiano or Antony. Adding a winger who doesn't score much but creates well makes a ton more sense if we have a poacher who has scored the most headed goals in Europe over the last decade or whatever the stat is.
If Cristiano leaves, I'm not sure paying a ton for Antony makes sense unless we're bringing in a lethal, probably selfish, goal scorer rather than looking for a more balanced attack.
