I think the price will be less than reported, or at least staged more. We need reinforcements in attack & ETH knows the player so will surely fit into his ideology.

Statistically, he is closer to Dembélé and Vinicius than any of the other players mentioned. A high amount of passes(+40 per game) and a high amount of carries(+11 per game), anyone that is above 10 progressive carries per game is a bit special. He presses a bit less than Dembélé and a lot less than Vinicius but both Dembélé and Antony are good at it when you consider their contribution in possession.

Not sure how reliable a journalist "Rob B" is, but his The Football Masterclass videos on YouTube are pretty good, at least relative to United Cringe videos and other garbage infesting YouTube.
Antony for me is comfortably a better player than David Neres was for Ajax. Neres I thought was a very average player who was effective at Ajax for a while. But as far as naturally ability goes, Antony is comfortably a better player and more exciting to watch.

And for me Antony is a winger/playmaker with a higher level of technical quality, which is evident against teams who sit back in compact low blocks.

And I maintain that if we do sign him, he'll be a very good signing that not only exudes class on the ball, but also has the work ethic and intensity to match off the ball. Still only 22 years of age and will get better imo.

He will cost more after the World Cup and there will be a lot more competition next summer. We have to get him now. Negotiate the price down some and throw in a player. Laird, Elanga or Amad should do it.

No. EtH acknowledged very early on that a deal for Antony would have been very difficult. It was never in their plans to sell this window so we were always going to have to pay through the nose.

I keep hearing this suggestion, but I was under the impression that both have very different roles in their respective clubs. I don't think VDS would necessarily be qualified to handle the roles expected in Arnold's job.

Yeah, around 10 is very good, Antony was at 11.60 last season which puts him around Messi and between the likes of Neymar and Dembélé. I always find that stat baffling because the gap between a pretty good dribbler like Mané and arguably the best in Dembélé is massive, Messi used to have an even larger dominance.
I thought Neres was very special when he just joined, but I think he suffered from being deployed as a classic winger by Bosz and to a lesser degree by ETH. His post-injury spells haven't shown too much promise, but if he gets back to his natural play I think he could make for an excellent 4-4-2 wide midfielder or an attacking midfielder in a similar system. His eye for timing and passes had something special about them, while when used as a more generic winger, he is average and imo very underutilized (again, if his post-injury state improves). Schmidt at Benfica will probably try a 4-2-2-2, so I hope that helps him.
As an actual winger Antony is indeed much better. He is also faster than he might seem and I think that could offer something ETH really loves on at least one of his wings, the way he's been sent forward by the midfielders.

I just feel it in my gut that this won't happen, I hope I'm wrong as he'd be a very exciting addition. I wish Greenwood wasn't such a fecking idiot so we could spend this kind of money on the midfield instead though.

De Jong is the priority signing which reliable sources like Ducker have said we are so in for him we are happy to keep going until even after the season starts. It’s not like the Antony links have just appeared, he’s been on our radar since ten Hag joined.

I’m confused - even putting aside the fact VDS has sod all to do with who they sign - are you saying Ajax’s model of buying young players, developing them and then selling for profit is the model Manchester United should take? Because I’m not really sure how that would make us a “proper” club.
Ajax are a selling club, we pay the price they want and we will get him, simple as that. As clubs go they seem quite easy to do business with in that regard. I think its imperative we add another attacker to his squad.
Ajax is only a selling club because there are highest leagues to go to. The philosophy could also work here at Utd. Going for you talents and develop them into first team players. The thing that works really well for Ajax is that players like Botman who don't make it, still sell for decent money. You can invest that money into the first team(or new talented players).
I don't know why, I still just feel like this isn't something that'll happen.
De Jong will clearly happen if possible. People should probably stop imagining what our budget is. We don’t have one.
