Makes it all a bit silly when he rolls around on the floor like he has been shot after he has been fouled!
If we are keeping it real then let's keep it real.
He mentioned that he watched the "Gods" like Cristiano and Neymar and then tried to replicate them.

Ronnie was alright as Fergie knocked the shite out of his game early on but Neymar...dearie dearie me, he could have won gold for Brazil in the pool.

I’ve seen a lot of drooling online about his elastico last night. Is it me or did he look like he messed it up and got lucky?

Messed it up and got lucky. He didn't really do much apart from that to be honest (and didn't seem too bothered to) - I wondered whether he was fully recovered. I know when one of the defence got injured he got pulled slightly deeper, which was a shame as I thought he'd liven up after he moved to his more familiar right side.

Regardless, you would have thought someone who'd not made the first 11 would try a bit harder to make an impression - especially with a 2 goal cushion

100% lucky he did ok but he’s going to have to do more to get in ahead of Rafinha

Was really looking forward to seeing him come on but he has seemed so disinterested. Appreciate the game was effectively done and dusted, but that might have been an opportunity to turn it on. Hopefully he’s just nursing his way back in and there’s more to come.

Must admit I have a bad feeling about him succeeding at United.
But that might just be my own preference for direct wingers like Garnacho and Martinelli.

I doubt Serbia were particularly worried about Antony being on the ball, where as they seemed to shit themselves whenever Martinelli had the ball.

Antony also did his classic move with losing the ball, because he wanted to trap the ball when receiving it with his back to a defender.

First game back after being back for a while and I thought he was fine. Came on and helped control the game. The was Brazil did that was impressive, Serbia were totally pinned.

It looked like he was really Conservative and maybe playing with injury, he looked short of sharpness which is kinda understandable as he's been out for a while but I wouldn't be suprised if he's rushed himself back as he can't miss this chance. He's best when he's fit and aggressive

Watching him and Martinelli on the wings; Martinelli every time attacked his full back, Antony played safe passes.
Seriously, i was over the moon when we signed him because i thought that we finally have a winger who beats his man. He also claims in his interview that he is a dribbler but so far i saw him once (vs Spurs) that he was direct and contant threat.

Antony is just recovering from an injury and hasn't been training long.

The first thing he did on the pitch was dribble passed 2 players. We are always looking for the green grass it seems.

Missed Brazil training for the second consecutive day with flu-like symptoms :(

Antony is “yet to make a mark” for United according to Dixon. Made 1 against you lot didn’t he

Antony’s attempted more dribbles in his last 2 cameos for Brazil than he has all season. Hope he brings that to Utd!

Although it further cements the belief his insistence on keeping possession as opposed to dribbling must be an ETH instruction so far.

I don't know why people complain about this lad so much, unlike many attackers he at least has shown end product while at the club.

These whining posts are so predictable. Sigh.
There are more posts whining about people whining than people whining.

But since you opened up the opportunity, he does seem quite sancho esque in the frequency woth which he gets the ball in a promising position then turns back to play the easy pass

Nothing like the old 2 birds one stone retorte

Thought he was sloppy, but very much active and involved. Things werent coming off but he gets into the positions you want your winger to get in, and contributes over the entire pitch.

I can understand some concerns as I share some of them myself. Worryingly for me his start to his United career has looked pretty similar to Dan James, some absolute bangers and not a lot else. I personally didn’t want us to sign him at €50m, let alone the money we did actually pay for him, but I said the same about Martinez which shows what I know.

That being said, Antony’s very young, is playing in the hardest league in the world and needs time to adapt, it’s not a massive surprise a young lad who’s been bought for that kind of money is maybe struggling under the limelight a bit.

Luckily time is on his side and EtH’s other signings have either been excellent or, reasonable value for money as with Malacia. So I’m personally going to trust Ten Hags judgement and chalk it up to a slow start. We should give the lad breathing room and hope he’s not another Sancho who’s not seemed to push on despite being given the benefit of the doubt.

He averaged 2 dribbles per game in Dutch league last year. I thought that it was much higher. Gakpo had 3 for example.
I think that we (and i am starting with myself at first place) have wrong expectations about him and his style of play.

According to some brazilian media, he has trouble with the air conditionned in Qatar.

It's not because Garnacho came straight in and was direct as hell. Why would he have different instructions? ETH admitted he wanted Anthony to take his man on the outside. Enough of the excuse

I noticed this when we signed him when I checked who scored. He certainly is no livewire with the ball at his feet. So either Sancho needs to wake up or Garnacho will be our go to guy to go at defenses. He is useful though. We rarely get the worldly Brazilians. Would kill for a Denilson, just for the entertainment and threat

Where?

some people hate the dry air and it makes them cough and choke a lot.

I guess it’s effecting his breathing in a bad way - but he’s not the only one

Yup. Its very common in the Middle East. Some people just can't take the dry air and the air conditioning doesn't do them any favors.

Talented lad but I have just one issue with his game. Because his lack if directness he slows down the attack and in a very predictable way. Just stands there, then shakes his body and legs pretending to dribble past the defender. 3-4 seconds gone, he then passes the ball to someone else. Those 3-4 seconds make hell of a difference as the other team takes better defending positions.

When you watch Vini Jr (or even Garnacho) on left and Antony on right you can easily make out the contrast in their playing style. One is very eager to get in the opposition box as soon as possible, the other just hangs around near the box.

Get that sorted out and he is mint.

He's still one player I'm a bit wary of. I obviously am not writing him off, new league, adapting etc but he's chipped in with goals in his early appearances that maybe masked performances that haven't been great. I'm going to go with the manager on this one, he knows him better than anyone and hopefully in the new year we start to see better performances. He hasn't been crap or anything just not been particularly great in any game.

Same. As expected when we overpay by 2x.

We haven’t had a single good performance since he’s been out, as he’s our 100% outball under the press, in a similar way Bernardo is for city. Without him we’ve reverted to some pretty poor direct football.
