Read a lot of people mention that he performs better with Dalot or a more attacking Fullback but honestly I think his best performances have come with Bissaka and its clear to me they have some sort of relationship developing there.
RB+shoot clearly trusts Bissaka and it’s obvious Bissaka trusts him. They just seem to bring out the best in each other.

Another quality addition to the forum.

If you watched Antony in that first half and didn’t see sustained periods of good play then you’re an idiot.

Why did Dyche take off Godfrey?

Come'on. Antony is crap, all our players are crap and so is ETH. Get with the times.

Well he certainly had chances today. Playing against Ben Godfrey is about as easy as it gets for a right sided attacker. Antony's finishing seemed ok without being amazing and the shot just before half-time is becoming so predictable that opposing keepers are expecting it. Unfortunate to hit the post in the first half. There was one where he looked to be through but a lack of pace meant the defender got back to block I think. A couple of key passes. I suppose it was a good performance overall.

I'm still astonished that we haven't given Pellistri starts in the PL as Antony looks such a limited player.

Why? He isn’t very good and has next to no chance of a future here.

Being massively underrated by people on here. Played really well in the first half, got away from Godfrey many times. Denied by a brilliant pair of Pickford saves and a post. His work rate and ball retention is superb. He’s improving all the time. Some of the criticisms on here of him are unmerited.

Still has plenty of improving to do but he’s been good so far.

By all accounts he may sign a new contract and then go out on loan to develop further. He’s not a write-off, yet.

Anyway back to Antony - wish he was more clinical in front of goal, but Pickford also decided to become Lev Yashin for the day didn’t help.

He also crossed with his right foot once this game, to add to the total tally of 2 in 2 games. Transformational.

He went outside in the box once did you guys see that!!!

He never looked like scoring any of his chances but kudos for anticipating the passes and running deep. If we had lost he would have been massacred but we won and he gets some decent comments as a result. That is football and especially that are football fans, this is how it works.
Last game he was our best attacking option, today he was our worst but we have to see the positives, he always shows himself, he doesn’t go into hiding.

Agree. They look like the best combo

Apart from hitting the post? AWB should have buried the follow-up.

I was very critical of him a few weeks back and I am happy to say that I was wrong and he has been playing much better recently. There are still issues with his game but I can at least see a good player there now

He's long since entered the realm of 'most fans have already taken a side on him' which means that most fans will never be able to properly evaluate any of his performances.

Good today. Unlucky to be subbed, as he was on Wednesday

Disagree. I think you can easily evaluate his performances fairly. He's all style and no substance so far. He's a player that looks the part but ultimately doesn't deliver the goods.

That's why in mid April he has just 3 PL goals and 0 assists. That's the same as Fred.

Weird. No substance? Today? Do you JUST mean no goals or assists?

I prefer to see him in the side that not now.
I think the balance he gives is solely underrated. Thought he was really good today.

He's good enough to start for us but he'll never justify the price tag.

Amad Diallo pressuring him next year might give him a kick up the arse

Honking game in front of goal. Really good at everything else. The predictability in his finishing & play on the ball in the final third is a big concern over the long term outside of today.

Played well on the shoulder, tidy on the ball & is a workhorse off it. Good player, the £80+ price tag will haunt him forever - he will never be ‘that’ player, but a good asset in the squad.

Call me crazy or a maverick but yeah I actually evaluate wide forwards / wingers on their output mainly. Hahaha.

He came off the pitch on 59 mins with no goals, no assists and no key passes that I can recall and played against a player so obviously not comfortable playing as fullback for 45 mins too.

Salah / Saka would have had a bag full today against Godfrey. That's the difference.

That's an unfair comparison. We're not there yet, best wide forward in the world for last number of years, best in the league for the best team in the league. He was easily our biggest threat today. Sure he didn't convert and he should have. It doesn't negate what he did today. I was at it and he was the guy that impressed me the most. You can't have watched us the ladt few seasons and not value that kind of workrate.

Don't think it's too much to ask for a player who cost us 84m to actually get goals and assists. His last PL contribution was in September.

Ben White, a CB who is playing RB, has more PL attacking returns this season than Antony.

Maybe it will all click into place suddenly for him. I hope it does. I'm not confident though.

Of course. I just mean who's giving us more in that position at the moment? He's working his ass off. I'm hoping our attacking game, which is not clicking quite as a unit at the moment , will eventually. He's doing everything he can, I think.

Everything aside from finishing was excellent. Horrible in front of the goal though.

To be honest him messing up that very easy pass to Rashford for an almost certain assist cost me more hair than his finishing.

I think the whole team worked their asses off today. We played quite well and could have won by 6.

I appreciate his tracking back etc but he needs to step up now and start making better decisions. His finishing and general lack of awareness in the final third isn't great. I will be honest I had hardly watched him before his transfer so didn't really know what we were getting.

All I can say now is I sincerely hope this isn't it or even close to it. He needs to massively improve next season.

His end product has been terrible and it isn't because of some bad luck. It's due to some awful decision-making in the final third. This is quite different from his work in the first two-thirds of the pitch which is usually on point.

He's a good player, he'll just never be a world-beater which is what we paid that money for. An acceptable option for our RW for now but in a couple of years we'll be looking to upgrade him.

Arguably his best game for us this season yet some of you still trying to find any angle to knock him down.

Did well in the first half but really should have scored but Rashy should have as well to be fair....Scotty had to show them how to do it.

Exactly, it's embarrassing the mental gymnastics some are performing to argue he is playing better than he is

If true that just shows how averagehe has been. There was no output today and he wasted great chances. If saka put out that performance it would be his worst of the season

Fully agree here. That being said, I know for a fact, that I personally have big issues with him due to the way we brought him in. I know it's kinda unfair but it is what it is. I'd say since two or three games he is playing a bit better than earlier this season, has a bit more of a go at his defenders. This shouldn't be a crown to him though - I see many fans wanting to give him for it. Trying his best should be the base level.

Hopefully thats not the case and some stuff is about to be unlocked in the future. Because being dilligent with little output was available to us with Dan James just as well. Really hope ETH and the staff is working with him to undo parts of his one-footed-ness which is making him pretty predictable. I'll give him that he is useful when there is space to run into. But that group of players is big.

Danny Murphy described Antony and Rashford as two of the quickest players in the league.

I still don’t know if Antony is quick or not.

Your fault for giving Danny Murphy a listen

Should have had at least an hat trick today. Needs to work on finishing.

Thought he was ok first half today but asterisked by the fact Godfrey put in one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a supposed LB. End product still a concern - should have probably had two assists and a goal with better quality. Looks to be developing a good understanding with AWB though.

Should have scored at least 1.

Under-hit the pass to Rashford too which allowed Iwobi(I think it was) to catch up to him.

Played well. Still think we got absolutely mugged for the price.

Zaha or even Gray would have put some of Anthony’s chances away today. Couldn’t finish his dinner that lad.

I analyze him as a RM rather than a forward. Like someone said Kanchelskis, Park etc. When you have one of your wingers as basically an attacker who doesn't trackback (also to have fresh legs for counters) the other has to have a tactical role which he does well.

Played much better than in his last couple of games. The fullback who played against him had to be taken off, so kudos to him.
Can't deny that he does give us something tactically, shape-wise, however you'd like to put it.

Still, whether we paid 8.5 or 85 million for him,
I can easily imagine us having to replace him in the XI, should we ever get back to competing with the big boys.

For now "he's fine", we have more pressing issues.

He works hard, makes us more organized somehow, can hold up the ball really well.
He and Sabitzer have this great quality to almost always be able to move our game forward.

But I'd like to see so much more from a supposedly top winger. He's also not a top wide forward or a top wide-playmaker.
Only in the PL could you find much better players than him playing these positions. They all play for our rivals, incidentally.

I guess he'll have to do for the time being. there's no better option than him on the right wing.

Yeah because didn't get deal done early, hopefully linking up with a Frimpong will make him improve his all round game

Agree that first half was one of his best overall performances for us minus the finishing. I was so glad to not only see him take on people but, also actually went on the outside more than once and it resulted in dangerous situations. Also, did put in that extra effort a couple times getting back when in similar situations after team loses the ball he has not. Hopefully will build on it because need that on a more regular basis.
