It’s amusing to see when people pretend to have watched a player and provide a “detailed analysis” of their findings before they became a Utd player.

This is the same poster saying this in the Antony transfer thread before we bought him:

Now he’s gone back in time and watched him
play at Ajax

   That explains it then.

This stuff is brilliant haha

Not to be a cnut, but it is possibly to watch past footage of players you know :nervous:

People make match compilations of every touch players make, but it depends if the games were televised or not. Many European clubs like games at Ajax you can but not really from Sao Paolo days.

Also you don't get the benefit of seeing off the ball movement and runs which of course is a big part of any footballers game.

He's a very good player. I don't know what it is at the moment but it's not coming out. Maybe wants to do too much due to his pricetag. He is still adjusting though to his teammates

As I said earlier on any player can sometimes take 12-18 months to bed in.

He is not a one on one dribbler if that is what people wanted or expected, but some very good passing from him in the first half. Does need an overlapping full back to create space for him.

I thought he looked good? He was creative and involved in the first half. I think it’s much better watching him than Elanga and he’s only just getting started.

Ghost for the most part. He just spends so much time out near the line on the right. It worked once against Arsenal, but hasn't since and he is barely getting involved. And when he does get involved he doesn't really do much. Some flair on the ball and then a back pass.

Just saying. Not that I’m writing him off but Marquinhos, the left footed young Brazilian winger for Arsenal looked 10 times better than him against Zurich. They bought him from São Paulo for 3 million.

Yeah. I remember under Fergie when everything was less desperate and we were just very good, it was widely accepted that we'd give players a season to bed in. Even supporters didn't expect too much from New signings in their first season unless it was a proven top class player in their prime. That's such a far gone approach these days, but really it's still applicable.

Some nice passes in the game and played well generally. Would like to see him take on his opponent more.

This one shouldn't. We paid the ETH tax because he 'knows the system' which was invaluable.
He knows the system, yes, but he still is young and will have to deal with the pressure change and league change and hype. It takes time. He's pretty much playing as such. He's doing very well defensively, pressing well, passing well, but will take time to get to know his team mates and feel comfortable.

I do agree with Savage though and it applies to both him and Sancho, but I want to really see what they can do 1v1. I know they're both capable. It's early days for Antony but Sancho I think needs a slight adjustment in his mindset, he needs to be a killer, a match winner. I get he likes to link up, that's fine and has it's purposes, but when the opportunity arises he needs to take attack the fullback and mix it up.

I think we needed a one on one dribbler tbh. Something different to Sancho.

Superb pass to Dalot who should control the ball better. He and Ronaldo can link, they look happy playing together.

Not for big signings, he cost 80m.

Nobody is saying he is shite but it should be ok to critique his performances (yes even this early) without the top reds getting their knickers in a twist.

I thought he did fine today. Nothing more nothing less. Would like to see a bit more x factor for such a massive fee but hopefully that is all to come.

Needs time to bed in but was pretty decent when he got the ball, seeing as most of the play went through the left. Will be a fan favourite in a years time.

I think we're going to need to build a relationship between him and a striker. Same goes for Sancho. In the long run we've got a lot of players wanting to play cute little passes but don't really break lines often or take anyone on. I think this is why Rashford and Elanga will be seen as very useful by the manager. Long term it's something you have to keep in mind when looking at strikers. You don't want someone else more comfortable dropping off.

At least he has much more intensity than the likes of Rashford and Sancho.

You hope he is settling down at this moment. He does not look anywhere close to 80m player or a player we needed to improve at this moment.

I think he was average today too, I think it'll be a season of flashes of brilliance and then some quiet games.

He's 22 and also needs to adapt to a new team, and a new country.

I think he could be world class within 2 years which is what I said originally.

You can go to a new team and just not get the ball where you used to get it, and your teammates are in different positions than you're used to, there's an adjustment period.

When you're a creative player its much harder than being a finisher like a striker, or a defender which is just easier to adapt to.

I think by Christmas we'll see a really good player in Antony but we won't see the very best of him for a year or two whilst he finds his feet.

As Rio said the money is what the clubs agree, it's nothing to do with the player.

I really expect big things, but right now we all want to see more take ons and carving teams apart but I think it'll just take time. He likes runners, so that requires Dalot bombing up a bit too.

Go watch YouTube highlights or something if you haven’t got the patience or attention span to wait more than 3 games. Joke of a comment.

I watched the YouTube highlights, he's not very good there either. The same one or two moments of skill in about 4 seasons is the depth of his highlight reel unfortunately.

He'll come good though.

That was the worry some of us did raise — profile wise he does seem sort of similar. I think Antony will improve a lot, but a straight sprinter type who has the capacity to burn a fullback in the mould similar to Dembele or Luis Diaz would’ve been nice. Hopefully we’re keeping tabs on that Mudryk geezer.

King of the accurate takes you mean.
As discussed in a different thread, I'll take your word for it that you're not really an arrogant nob head. But you do a very convincing impression of one.
