Will a period if recovery help though? If one leg is shorter he might need an op? Some kind of bone graft maybe?
I wonder if the shorter leg thing could also be why he is so one-footed?

Valencia was very good, some posters here don't know their arse from their elbow.

Considering the bolded, I'd say you're one of them.

Arse, meet elbow! :D

I didn't think Valencia was as bad as some are making out, but he certainly wasn't "very good". It was an average game in which he didn't beat his full back once, created not much but kept it simple and provided great balance.

Quite possible. Even for a regular bloke like me, that can be damaging when playing sports.

I thought he was good in bits which is encouraging. His last two games was a considerable improvement on what we've seen recently. Will come brilliant again.

I remember him beating him a couple of times and getting fouled. Valencia was alright yesterday, I've no complaints.

He was average. I think it's the amount of time he's taking on the ball that annoys people at the moment. He seems to be thinking too much about what to do.

He needs to get back to basics; receive the ball, shift it forward a step to create that bit of space, whip the ball in. That is when he's at his best. Phil Jones put more quality balls in than he did yesterday. I've no doubt that he'll sort it out though.

Compared to the standard he set over the past few years he's not been great this season.

Dip in form is all, he'll get back to his best form.

He hasn't been anywhere near his best this year, but sometimes it's good just having him there. Think it is do with the balance that I'm Always Right is referring to.

His place definitely isn't safe though with the form Young is now in and with Kagawa coming back.

What? Come on chief. All he did all game was wait for Jones to do the overlap and pass it to him. Understandable when he was doubled up on but his indecisive performance gave Sunderland too much time.
I'm serious. This time around he was actually threatening his fullback with attacking moves and crossing the ball early enough. It may have not been totally consistent but it was better than all his recent displays.

He rarely put good crosses in, Jones did a much better job of crossing the ball yesterday. Neither did i see him threaten Colback much yesterday. Colback had his measure all game. All Valencia did the entire game was wait for Jones to overlap or pass the ball back to him. He just didnt seem willing to take Colback on.

He was pretty non-existent in the first half, the majority of our best play came down the left. He was a little more lively in the second half as he actually took his man on a couple of times but overall he was very quiet. He fed Jones in great positions a couple of times and that was his best contribution on the ball, IMO. One nice darting run past 2 or 3 men in the last 5-10 minutes was promising but even then he ran the ball out of play...he's miles off his best. Still contributes so well when the opposition have the ball though.

Still hasn't found his last season form, but I'm sure he'll get there at some point, he's playing a bit better recently, although honestly I'd like to rest him next week and try Kagawa and Young on the wings, maybe if that doesn't work out put him on as a sub, atleast you know he'd be able to beast even more on fullback who's already tired.

He wasn't though and the crowd were getting very frustrated with him. He's suffering a big dip in form at the moment and on Saturday he was disruptive to the speed of our build up play. I thought he slowed everything down far too much and the frustration showed when he went in two footed and to my amazement didn't even get booked!

Buy this man a drink too!

The thing is even when the attacking side of his game isnt there he still contributes more than any of our other wingers ( in the same scenario).

He'll come good again thats for sure.
Yep. Even when Valencia isn't playing well going forward. He give us a great outlet in defence. The amount of times that under pressure we play the ball out to him and he keeps the ball, or takes it forward a bit and then holds it up is what he is currently in the team for. It gives the whole team time to regroup and get forward as a team. Yes sometimes its frustrating as hell watching him wait and then just pass the ball back. But the team is is a much better positions as a result of it and our defenders have time to get back in position.

where he used to always take the right option, these days he gets into a good position, and simply just stands there.

It's simply bizarre.

We'd all prefer him just to lash the odd ball across the box like before.

How long has he been doing the whole 'stop the ball.. Wait.. do a little shimmy here and there while the ball is stationary, fake a pass left, fake a pass right, wait.. /pass'

fecking hell, he needs to stop that shit and just constantly move with the ball at feet. Some of the best goals were scored from someone standing over a stationary ball and doing a bit of trickery.. Said no-one EVER.

This stand-up the defender thing then wait for 10 seconds and decide to pass it back to Jones/midfield is the most frustrating thing I've ever watched.

Abysmal again. He isn't attacking the full back and his crossing is appalling.

Needs to be dropped on this form.

He's causing our attack play to break down almost every time he touches the ball (and has done all season) I have no clue what's wrong with him at the moment but he shouldn't be starting games on this form. When he gets the ball and just stands there it's the most frustrating thing ever, he almost looks clueless at times.

He's fecking awful. No idea what happened to him since last season, but he has no idea what to do these days. Needs to come off as the only thing he's provided is this season is our shape... Not good enough.

Team passes the ball around, the attack gains some momentum, it looks promising...balls played out wide to Valenica, who...stands there for about 10 seconds, doing nothing, before passing it back to Evans on halfway.

Cut to close up of an angry looking Valencia punching his left hand with his right, and looking rather moody.

Rinse and repeat for 45 minutes.

Its almost as if he's under the impression that every week he's playing against the best left back in the world. So winning a couple of corners is a good return.
