Thought this was one of his better games, seemed to have more willingness to carry the ball and he actually beat some players. Still didn't put in a top cross but better than most his recent games.

Did fine but still produced nothing going forward.

He burst past three players over and over again, and he put in a great cross which van Persie couldn't get his head on.

Excellent as right back, but back to his "best" when moved on wing.

Vintage United winger performance.

Thought he was decent today, but that is because he wasn't playing as a winger for the most part. Seems to have forgotten how to attack and take on defenders.

He did well at RB today, and was alright when he went to Right Wing.

Considering he played 90 minutes against Sunderland, we should be applauding the bloke today, not criticising him.

Do people watch games with their eyes closed? He beat players plenty of times. Options on the ball were limited because Chelsea were able to sit back and filled any gaps quickly. Maybe he's supposed to beat 6 or 7 Chelsea players at a time, pass to himself and then do it again.

Shall we applaud Chris Smalling too? For playing football.

I don't think any of our wingers are of the required quality to nail a regular starting position at a club like ours.

Give over, he's had a bad season but you said he's midtable class in the matchday forum which is funny considering he's our reigning player of the year.

Yes we should actually... and Carrick too. Playing 2 games of football in 3 days is no piece of fecking cake.

Valencia's energy levels didn't appear to drop either, fair play to him.

Had a good game today. Maybe being Rafa's understudy at right-back is where he should be.

His chipped crosses were poor as always, but his running was fine today. Among his better performances this season, still nothing like previous seasons though.

Sarcasm?

I saw your match day post.

I just find it incredible that people can take any positives. Expectations and standards are at an all time low if that constitutes a good performance. The fact it's his defensive work that is constantly applauded says it all.

If we played a different system it would be understandable but we don't have any attacking midfielders and one of our strikers is played for his work rate and contribution without the ball as it is. Our wingers are essential to our attacking play and build up and Valencia constantly offers very little. If you watch any of the times he does manage to beat a man or get a cross in it is always down to either our fullback, a striker or midfielder creating space for him which completely negates the move in many aspects as it is one less man around the area or acres of space left behind him open for a counter attack.

We look bad up front and centrally at the moment because our wings are offering nothing and its not stretching the midfield which is essential when you play with two in there. If you don't stretch the midfield, it allows an extra man to sit in front of their two centre backs and both Mikel or Ramieres enjoyed doing that today to Hernandez and Welbecks fraustration.

We need to sort our wings out big style. Fergie's systems have always relied on great wingers, Ronaldo, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Beckham, Valencia before this season, Nani at periods over the past 4 years, they've all be essential to our play and the quality of our play has suffered this season because of the lack of quality or fitness in Valencia, Nani and Young.

Are we really praising Valencia for putting in a good cross?

Jesus.

No, we're praising him for going on surging runs past players over and over again. The comment about putting in a good cross was just an easier way of proving he did in fact do something going forward, because somehow people managed to miss him powering past players repeatedly so perhaps they only remember what happens in and around the box.

Really sad state of affairs if that was a good performance tbh. There's defending him, and there's lowering your standards so low that you're just happy for him to not be giving the ball away with every touch.

The worst thing is, as seems to happen a lot, he stays on whilst better performers/more dangerous players get taken off. Usually Kagawa, today Welbeck and Nani (who was crap, but still more dangerous/less pointless than Valencia). Either he's got something on SAF or the attempt to play him back into form is now Fergie's No1 priority.

I think you are talking up an average display really

He was fine at right back but put in a typical performance of this season at right wing. I can't believe he stayed on while Welbeck was taken off, it didn't make any sense.

Great post, it really has gotten that any half decent performance has become reason to praise a player, this has been a bad season for our wing play all round, the best wide performances have been from Giggs at nearly 40.

You're right. People should just moan constantly about the team.

Bin-go!

As I've said before, not giving the ball away or just not making any obvious mistakes is now considered a 'good' performance from Valencia these days. Its sad how low the standards have now been set for him.

Thought he did well today. He linked up with Nani very well in those 1-2 situations where he took a still ball, knocked it on and bombed forward. Defended well and tracked back when required when he moved onto the wing. Other than Welbeck, he was our best attacking player for me. Whilst not his best, today was still an astronomical improvement on the way he's played since December, but everyone seems so desperate to stick the boot in to him.
