fecking shite. Gave us absolutely nothing when he came on. Should have gone for the ball at the end too like Rafael thought he was going to do.

Hmmmm. In hindsight it looked like he should have but he wasn't going to get there in time and would have left a man free. Rafael should have took care of the danger first.

Pointless bringing him on. Another poor performance. Nani & Young should be ahead of him in the pecking order, probably Welbeck too.

I don't know what's happened to him but this is more than just a 'poor run of form' he's not even recognisable to the player he was in the past.

Even when he was carrying the team on his back, he had all of about 3 successful moves - run to the byline faster than the defender, good cross, occasional howitzer. And it was fecking unstoppable.

Now he never goes to the byline, and when he does he won't take the man on for pace. His crossing isn't any good anymore and he never gets in position to shoot. Pointless to put him on.

He was excellent defensively and retained possession well you gimps. Did exactly what we needed him to do.

A mindboggling sub. I get that we want to give him minutes to see if he can play his way back into form, but in the last twenty minutes of a game against good opposition that we're already struggling against? Yeh, great thinking there :wenger:

And, as expected, he played like absolute turd, although this time he went a step further and cost us a goal, too.

He's in a rut at the moment. He needs to be replaced by Nani on the bench for now.

Surely Nani is a better option than playing him, the way he is playing he would find it difficult to get in the Wigan side!

What exactly did he do wrong today?

Or are you just unable to handle your emotions maturely thus lashing out at an easy target?

He is fecking abysmal right now. Hopefully with Nani being back he won't be anywhere near the team at the moment.

Yeah, except for the moment where he stood still on his heels and lost us the ball, which led to a goal.

Yes but he did make the mistake to not go for the ball. He just stood still and watched the game. Was decent otherwise. Except the other incident which i mentioned.

Cleverley was excellent and even if he showed some signs of tiring - why not bring on Anderson? He's great at shielding the ball and maintaining possession, you only need to tell him not to try the hollywood passes.

Bringing Giggs on would have made more sense than Valencia. Next two games are Fulham at OT and Soton at OT, excellent for giving opportunities to Valencia to show us that he can still play football but bringing him on today was a weird decision right there and a horrible one in hindsight.

Yeah, except for the moment where he stood still on his heels and lost us the ball, which led to a goal.

Hadn't a chance of getting the ball. He was holding Rafael's position because for some reason he was buggering off up the pitch.

Talk about knee-jerk. Valencia's been terrible all season but defensively this was the best he's been and even in poor form he keeps the ball better than perhaps every other winger in the league - that's what we needed.

How long do we use "poor form" as an excuse for? We didn't give Torres much longer than a season, why is Valencia any different? He's been absolutely abysmal all season.

Torres hadn't had 3 good seasons at Chelsea before his poor form started. That's the difference.

Absolutely disgraceful performance. Came on with acres of space ahead of him to break on the counter. Everytime he got the ball he stopped to pass it back to an already crowded central midfield instead of trying to beat his man one on one.

Compare him to lennon and lennon wins hands down.

He shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place. As soon as Valencia came on, we lost the midfield, he didn't add anything to our play at all and in the end, it was his hesitancy that cost us a goal and subsequently three points.

You mean when he was covering Bale? Yes, terrible defensive decision.

Just watched the replay. Rafael was much closer to the ball and runs away from it. It's brainless to blame Valencia.

Looking again, it was really Rafaels fault for running away. Valencia was holding his ground

Best to stay camped in our own area when holding on to a lead? Rafael looked for a give and go so we could take the pressure off. Maybe not the best thing to do but Valencia stood there motionless.

Could tell what we were in for the first time Valencia got the ball. At no point did he try to take his man on or make any sort of ground on the right side. He just recieved the ball, dawdled around for a few seconds then made a backwards pass - and it seems that is all he is capable of nowadays.

The ball that Rafael left I dont entirely blame Valencia for however, Rafael obviously saw a chance to spring a counter and thought that Antonio was going for the ball, so he made a forward run. Valencia wasnt going for the ball though, and it ended poorly.
The question is, would the Valencia of 1 year ago not gone and challenged for that ball? I think he would have.

No, we needed to keep ground in the midfield instead of allowing Spurs to stretch the game. We didn't need Valencia on at all.

I'm not sure if he can be blamed for the goal, need to see it again but rafael should have held his run, we didnt need to counter, just clear it.

But I though in his general play for someone with fresh legs he looked sluggish, I get slowing down the game etc but I think there was time for a second which the other attackers were still playing for. But even with playing conservatively I thought he was too slow with his passes and let their players get pressure on us.

I think when Fergie threw him on he was expecting the Valencia that could run at pace and beat players down the flanks.

Not the fecking one we saw today who stopped at the halfway line and passed the ball square to a bloody exhausted Carrick or Jones who were surrounded by 3 white shirts.

The thing is Valencia lacks the technique and fecking 1 full foot when we are required to keep hold of the ball.

He only knows to defend well and of course run with the ball.

Maybe not? He's a right back in the last minute of the game running away from the ball up the pitch. It was moronic. Valencia had zero chance of getting the ball.

Well he obviously didn't have a chance because he wasn't even looking at Rafael, who assumed he would be.

Spurs were on top from before Valencia came on, though. We've allowed the opposition to take control when we're 1 goal up over and over and over again - it has nothing to do with Valencia. Cleverley was tiring and Bale was coming into the game...what exactly is it we should've done instead? Bale was really effectively nullified.

He was fully expecting Rafael to go for the ball. He would have been able to collect a pass from him. It was not Valencias fault at all.
