That was during his best season, 10/11, and it wasn't that he was better, it was that people thought he was more talented and could be the better player. Back then it wasn't really an outlandish thing to say.

Shows how overrated he was by some of our fans IMO, better than Rooney is a joke, regardless of form.

Cina explained to you what were people saying on him and comparing him to rooney, it has nothing to do with him being better player then Rooney, but more talented and that he would eventually become better player then him, but you just continued without even reading it, you just wanted to say how overrated he is, no matter what.

And still, you are talking nonsense, Nani on top form is good as our any other player.

Wow, the fanboys are out in force.

I don't rely on cina to provide me with information regarding Nani, I can read, and remember posters claiming that Nani is our best player, which is bullshit.

What that has to do with fanboism? It's more your hate for Nani that is shown in those two posts then anything else.

He was named as our best player in that season by his teammates, I guess that is bullshit too.

What hate? People said he was better than Rooney, and our best player. I pointed that out and said its bullshit, that's all.

No, he was our best performer that year, over the whole year. Rooney was better in the second half of the season though. That's not what I took issue with, I took issue with people saying he is better than Rooney and our best player, but you knew that.

Can you find some posts where people actually said that?

If I was sad enough to care to prove the point.

Maybe I'll dig out a few when I have literally feck all else to do, I remember some from the newbies and the mains.

I like Nani and to be honest, he has had quite a few games this season, with injuries and what have you. However, what cannot be taken away is his team work. He can play for Manchester United or Portugal and he gives so much. I like Nani and is 10 times the player Valencia is. Though that is my opinion and not fact. You are not a fanboy mate. As soon as you are a fan of a certain player that a certain poster doesn't like, you will be labelled a fanboi.

Valencia, when in form, is a good winger. He doesn't have all the attributes that Nani does but he's reliable and up until this season he was pretty much good for the entire time at United while Nani disappeared from time to time.

I just wish he had both him and Nani running down the flanks again, like they did in 2010-11. The game against Bayern at home was a perfect example of how much harm they could do to an opposition when they hit the ground running in a game. Young, while being a solid winger, has never really been that good for us or Villa, and this current Valencia doesn't even look remotely similar to that one. Nani is obviously frozen out.

Was easier than I thought, I haven't read through the whole thread but the OP asserts it and there's probably quite a few who agree.

https://www.redcafe.net/f6/rooney-vs-nani-347655/

Poll says "Who will be the better player in two years?", and If I'm not wrong, posters were talking about that certain period of time. Over their careers, Rooney was better player clearly, but during time when that thread was made, lots of people had Nani as better player, nothing wrong in that. I find Evans as better player then Vidic at the moment, is that bullshit?

Read the thread and you'll see there are posters who think Nani was better than Rooney at that moment in time, I'm pretty sure the OP says so as well as a few others.

Not to mention that the fact so many people believe Nani will be better than Rooney in two years for me is also indicative of how overrated he is by some fans.

Also, that thread was made in January of this year.

Yeah, I know I'm not. I also quite like Nani, but I don't defend him too much at all because some posts people write on him are ridiculous, he never said anything against the club or anyone at the club, and fact that he kept quiet for whole this time during his weird contract situation is worth of praise, so I really don't understand where the hate for him comes from.

So in other words you're claiming to know the future and that in Jan 2014 theres no possible way Nani could be playing better than Rooney, again ?

Yeah, I just said that posters were talking about that moment in time.

I don't get it, why would suggestion that he will become better player in two years time then Rooney mean he is overrated?

Better how exactly? Wasn't it always in terms of attacking threat and what he brought to our team? It's a debatable point which you seem to think is absolute. There was a time where Nani was carrying us with his performances and goals. I think that's where the "best player" talk came from. It coincided with a time where Rooney wasn't at his best.

Fans overrate players all the time. Rooney has been overrated plenty of times. Both Nani and Rooney are world class talents and when on form, they're basically unstoppable. Personally, I think Nani can be more devastating. He definitely is more technically gifted than Rooney.

I'm not sure why it's such a big deal to you though. Simply a topic of discussion. There's been worse threads on here anyway.

So people did think he was better than Rooney, and not just in two years time, but currently, you claimed otherwise, that people only said he would be better in the future. That particular moment in time is a shit way of assessing things anyway, it's like me saying that Heskey is better than Rooney this week, after how Rooney performed against Swansea.

I said that saying Nani is better than Rooney, IMO, was bullshit.

Yeah, even in two years I can't see Nani being better than Rooney, so if people assert otherwise that will lead to me forming an opinion that he is overrated.

And I don't think Young will ever be that good for us.

He is getting better this season, but on a whole, his game lacks a certain something overall.

Nani has done well to stay quiet, not wanting to create an atmosphere within the club. I only hope for the time being is that he can come back to his normal self. I think he can become a better player than Rooney soon. Even RVP has managed to take that mantle away from Rooney and he has only been here a short while. It seems that if we hadn't had RVP, we would have been struggling.

You are confused son

Nani is definitely more technically gifted than Rooney, although the fact that Rooney tracks back and defends a great deal, helps win the fans support over. Nani, if he does stay is the future for Manchester United.

Not really, I'm of the opinion that Nani will not be better than Rooney, I'm not claiming to know the future.

People saying otherwise, IMO, is overrating Nani. Get it?

Yes, I did said that:

Yeah, even in two years I can't see Nani being better than Rooney, so if people assert otherwise that will lead to me forming an opinion that he is overrated.

Your opinion is wrong.

Even during that time when he was considered as better player then Rooney and best winger in the world he still had lots of room for improvemant, so if in that time there was lot of people who thought he was better player then Rooney, why wouldn't people see him as even better in two years?

Yeah, I agree again too, on both him becoming better player then Rooney and about van Persie situation. ;)

There's an article on tribalfootball that mentions one of his legs is shorter than the other (I never knew that), could this be why he's so one footed?

It's not a big deal, what made you think otherwise?

People were saying Nani is our best player, that was bullshit IMO. That's all.

That's fair. I just don't think it was bullshit at the time it was discussed. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would say Nani is our best player now. I think the whole best player thing can fluctuate but Wayne over the past season and a half and in 09/10 was definitely our best player IMO. I would say Nani's technique is up there with RVP if not the best.

Who knows? RVP might prove to be our new best player in the coming season or two. I think one aspect of being deemed the best player is the system you play in. It's not always the case but for United, I think it plays a major factor.

Like I said, I'm not sure about the whole 'time it was discussed' thing. You could argue that Torres is better than Rooney this week going by that.

Anyway, there were people who thought Nani was our best player, not most in form, not going to be be better in two years, just better full stop. I was referring to those when I said it indicated that Nani is overrated.

RVP being better than Rooney, is a statement that I don't agree with but I'm far more comfortable hearing, it's a closer contest and compares two players who have consistently proven far more than Nani has IMO.

Anyway, this is the Valencia thread ...

True but I think when it was majorly being discussed, it spanned a good chunk of time where you could assess each player's contribution to the team.

And even for those who thought Nani was the better player, I'm saying I can see how it wasn't the most outlandish thing to say. From what I remember, Rooney wasn't in the greatest vein of form and Nani certainly was. I would say he was pretty devastating and some of his performances were top class. One of those players who on form, I really find exciting to watch.

What I have to say about Rooney though is while he may not be the most technically gifted, he has consistently improved his game year upon year. the main improvement for me was when he improved his heading. Even though he's lost some of the explosive aspects of his game, his overall effect on the team offsets that.

But like you said this is the valencia thread. We may not see eye to eye but I see where you're coming from. It's all valid.
