I don't remember Lemar, but I remember them being close to signing Lacazette.
Just for political reasons. Ateltico fan's will be content with him leaving if they've just signed another high profile player to replace him. I guess he'd also feel bad if he left now and then the Lemar transfer broke down or failed a medical.
I wouldn't be surprised if they turned Lemar into more of an attacking threat to be honest, played him off the striker instead.
I dont get even if we bought him, where would he fit in our attack after Sanchez?

I believe hes leaving for Barcelona. He could not keep his own fans waiting this long for an answer to were hes playing next season and the delay in announcing would be down to agreeing things officially with the buying club.

When you really think about it, bit weird a Man Utd forum taking such an interest in a transfer between Atletico and Barca, isn't it.
Atletico need to unveil Lemar first, then we'll get a statement from Griezmann.
He had a presser yesterday and said he wont be announcing just yet (going back on his previous comments about announcing befor the world cup)
Tbh I think this has made it more a reality now that he wont remain at Atletico because why create such a fuss and not just say you are ? Most likely Barca bound but I think we must be lurking around this transfer.

Think he's holding off until Atletico have done thier transfer business for the summer. Would imagine they will be quoted more money for players if teams know they have 'Greizmann money' burning a hole in their back pocket.
I think he's off and seeing as he cares so deeply about how Atletico will be affected by his departure, joining Barcelona would be a shitty move from their perspective. I fully expect us to have met his buyout clause and at least spoken to him about a transfer. Whether he's decided where he's going yet, that's a different story...

Even if there was anyone to blame, I'm sure you should be blaming the journos and tabloid papers, instead of Griezmann?? After all, they are the ones running the stories, and constantly asking him the same tiresome question over and over again, for him to just provide the same answer over and over again.
All he has been saying is that he would give an answer before the World Cup. That's the same and only answer he has been giving all this while. Poor bloke is trying to decide his next career move and god knows there are other external reasons as to why he has not announced yet, given it's a World Cup year as well. I'm seeing some people on this forum already hating the man and getting so worked up over something so trivial. Did he give a specific date as to when he will be announcing, did he launch a PR marketing campaign prior to announcing his next move? Am I missing something here??

We've most likely got multiple targets that rank in priority in various positions. We go for them all at the same time and see which one we can acquire then pull the plug on all the second string options if we get our main man.
He'd basically be directly replacing Lingard. He'd play behind the striker when we are playing 4231, and out on the right when we are playing 433. Just like Lingard was doing most of the season just finished. Not that I expect Griezmann here.
Is this not the same for virtually every club regarding transfers? Unless the player is listed or has a buy out we have to have 3-4 options.

I definitely think that he's on the move. He could've just said he's staying yesterday but opted to say 'It's not the time or place' which is a clear indication he's moving. Ties in with AtM spending 55m on Lemar. They'd want to spend the cash from Griezmann before everyone knows they've got some cash to avoid being fleeced. I'm also convinced he's going to Barcelona
To be honest, I don't want him. But if it came down to Griezmann or Bale, I'd take the former. Would be cheaper fee, cheaper wages, longer career, not injury plagued and would score/assist more. Can also play as ST or No.10, given us more options. That's if we're going for a huge name this summer.
As for my own preference, I'd rather we signed a proper exciting wide man. Willian, Bailey..etc. Width on the right from a RW and new RB would transform our attach.

AG is not joining us. He made that completely clear last year.
Last year, the muppets still would not let up and were convinced he'd join last January when AM's transfer ban ended. And still, he stayed.
He isn't joining us anytime soon. He could not have made it more clear than he did last Summer, when he signed a new contract which gave him more money...just like Ronaldo and Ramos did with Real Madrid, when they used our name to get a better deal.
I know that some people on here are taking this very personally, but you shouldn't. There are many players we are in for, who won't join us. That does not mean they are bad people or that our club is not good enough for them. It just means that we need to look elsewhere. Chasing pipe-dreams is a waste of time and energy.
This thread is 42 pages long, based on absolutely nothing. Not once has AG stated that he'd like to move to England or MUFC. Not once.

Hmm he did not join us last year due to the transfer ban. Even his ex-agent said that. Jan was not possible as release clause as 200m, and will only drop to 100m this July. He has stated multiple times that he would love to play alongside his pal Pogba, Beckham was his idol and he has said he does not mind playing in England.
I am not saying that he will join us for sure, and I agree people should not be too influenced by this transfer saga since way too many people here are taking things too seriously, but there is no confirmation that Griezmann won't join us if were to bid for him this window.

Are smokescreens really a thing in football?
I mean, for all we know, that's just the spin journalists and the media put on things when we inevitably sign someone that is not the player they have been linking us to all summer.
Yeah it’s frustrating how readily the concept of a smokescreen has been adopted and repeated by many fans.
It’s a thoroughly bizarre suggestion and I’m not really sure if it makes any sense or has any purpose.
I think it's more the case that clubs negotiate with many players at the same time, some leak and some don't.
Like our Morata/Lukaku deal, we obviously got very far with Morata until Lukaku was 100% yes, so we pulled the plug. Nobody had any idea of Lukaku, but Morata was the one everybody knew about.
Same with Matic/Fabinho/Dier, lots of rumour but Matic became the choice.
The crazy thing is, not only are we not in for him, but people are already discussing the positions he will play for us.
It's like me, making plans of where I am going to take Katy Perry out on dates to. If I were doing this for real, I'd recommend that I be sectioned, for my own safety.

Quite, it's bizarre when you consider that the one purpose a smokescreen could serve (i.e. to wrong foot other clubs) is almost certainly negated by the fact that a player's agent is obviously going to play interest from different clubs off against each other.
This. Clubs want to seem interested in several options, as it obviously weakens your negotiating position if you want one player, and that player alone. If you appear genuinely happy to walk away from a deal for another player, they're more likely to negotiate.
The idea of a 'smokescreen' where you pretend to be interested in one player, while doing business on the actual player you're interested in quietly, must be quite rare. Hard to picture why that would ever be a useful ploy. If you want to do business quietly, you just do it quietly without various parties leaking rumours.
Something just does not add up on the surface on this deal. I really won't be surprised if we are in for him but under everyone's radar since we are still long way from concluding the deal.
