Assuming he wants to leave, aside from "primary" factors like big club/strong team/manager/playing time/position/etc, "secondary" reasons (almost non-performance related) that Griezmann favors us over rivals

1. "One foot in". Were it not for the CAS, we would have signed him.
2. #7 legendary shirt
3. Agent Pog

At least our chance of signing him is better than a coin toss

Are you a politician by any chance, you shift goal posts everytime someone calls you on your bs.
Judging by his post history, if @Footballsaurus was a politician he'd be Donald Trump. I mean you cannot help but be impressed by the sheer volume of bullshit he's been able to produce over such a short amount of time.

The issue with Griezmann for me is not whether he is good enough but it is one of competition. He had the opportunity to come this year, and hasn't, most people are saying this is because of the Atleti ban, I am not so sure. If that was all that was stopping us why don't we have an agreement for him to come in January or next year (anyone who thinks we would be hiding this for some reason is deluded). I suspect that he decided not to come initially because of the ban, but he has then seen how things have developed at PSG and Barca.

I can't see him leaving in January, as that would leave Atleti in a bad position, so it will be next year, and that means we will face competition from Barca, Real, PSG, Bayern, City, etc especially if the price is 100m. PSG could offer huge wages to Griezmann outside our range, Barca are Barca and I am sure he would love to play with Messi, Suarez and Dembele, the others also have attractions and then we have us.

Griezmann if he really does love Atleti may also agree to sign a new contract so that Atleti get an even bigger sum of money, after all why wouldn't he? He would get a bigger pay packet as a reward, plus he helps Atleti in the transfer market. I can't see us being the winner in either a 100m clause fight (due to options), or in a straight out best offer fight (City and PSG will blow us away)
Yes, we get the picture that you don't think he'll come to United! You've told us on almost every page of the thread! ;-)

Which part? SI puts Neymar cost at 595k:

"The deal will reportedly pay Neymar around €30 million annually after taxes (which amounts to around $35.5 million). The deal could total around $595 million, including bonuses and his existing transfer buyout clause with Barcelona (worth around $263 million). All in all, it would be a world record fee to pay for a player."

That is a little over 200% of release clause. MU will pay more than 100 mil for AG when everything is said and done. You want to pay more than 100 mil for a player that might or might not improve the team. In the process you probably have to sell someone or two. It probably might not cost that much if you do sell but I don't think it will be a guaranteed improvement. What is shocking?

You are claiming AG is match for MU because his current team plays like MU, but so do most teams because they are not good enough to keep possesion often. I am claiming he can fit in Barca style team better. Since very few teams are Barca, it is hard to say otherwise. I don't think he will improve Barca, he will just fill a gap so that continue playing the style they are known to play. Most players will not reject playing for Real or Barca if they really wanted him. What is so shocking? Name me one player in this transfer window that would say no to those teams?

If you have a team like Man City or PSG, if you spend the amounts they are spending and you win, it's fine, but if you don't win CL or EPL (Man City) then it becomes harder and harder to justify more spending. If you pay 100 mil (200 mil at end) for AG and you don't win CL, then it is a waste of resources. What is shocking?

You've reached Olympian levels of nonsense. Enjoy eternity in the newbies.

With the way the market is going and him having a buyout it probably makes more sense to go for him if the buyout is still around a 100mil.
Can't see Juventus looking at the sales of Neymar,Mbappe,Ousmane and not thinking they should be getting around 150mil or more for Dybala who I'd rather have over Griezmann.

Am I the only here who does not want Griezmann? Reasons why we should not get him:

  • He is going to cost 100m. Is he worth a 100m upgrade over Mata and Mkhi? No.
  • Same profile of player like Mata and Mkhi, i.e., doesn't offer genuine width,.
  • Might do a Mkhi during his first year - struggle in the EPL.
  • World cup year coming up. France would probably go far and he might miss out on pre-season like Pogba.
  • First instinct is to receive the ball to his feet and playmake. We need players running off the ball.
  • I think woodward wants him more than Jose does.

One, I think United have other priorities. A left-wing back or left-wing midfielder is more important. Particularly as Rojo, Shaw and Young are semi-permanently injured.

Two, I feel United have no need for AG with Mikhitaryan and Mata.

AG is definitely an upgrade over Miki Mata in no.10. Then Miki Mata will rotate the same right wing position and means that we wont have to see Fellaini ever so often.

This season will identify its own strengths and weaknesses. For me, the jewel in the crown wearing that 7 shirt is still missing. It's that player that produces the moment of brilliance when everything else looks lost. All the big teams have one, we are still waiting to find ours. The market now means that player whether 19 or 26/27 will cost 150+m and that pool of players is becoming more shallow. AG and Sanchez are probably the last available in that pool.

Both Mata and Mikhitaryan are more effective in the middle [than they are out wide].

[In any event,] Signing AG won't solve United's problem on the left-side either.

Than Griezmann.... No he isn't. That aside Mkhi and Griezmann could easily rotate position during a game.

If we can have much better Right and Left full back positions, with griezmann playing off lukaku, that solves that position. Has it stands the team's upgrades remain like this

------------DDG-----------
-----?? bailly ?? ??---
-------matic pogba----
------mkhi ?? martial/rashford---
----------lukaku---------
Unless shaw and jones truly get over their fitness problems

I do think we are 4 players short in a starting 11 to get to the next level on where Jose wants us at. Jose said we are at 75% of where the team is at at the moment. I think we have 2 fullbacks, a CB and another frontman to really upgrade us. I do think upgrades on valencia, jones, blind and mata will make us of a standard of team that would solve a few niggling problems that will plague us this season. Unless jones and shaw really do get over their injury problems, we are 4 players short in a starting 11, does not mean we are bad, but for that pieces in the jigsaw on what we need, that is what we are missing

Why do you think we've not done something similar to what Liverpool have done with Keita?

Maybe we want to keep our options open and also have more confidence in landing a player we want ahead of other interested clubs. Most likely, we have a verbal agreement with Griezmann.

Because Keita's release clause can only be activated starting next summer, so Liverpool felt that they had to force the issue now, otherwise bigger clubs would be in for him come next summer. Griezmann's release clause could have been activated earlier this summer, but he decided not to leave (although he wanted to join us before the transfer ban). We would be stupid to agree a deal now, as there may be better players available next summer, so we'd be limiting our options. Also, we may be confident that Griezmann would chose us, if we make a move for him next summer.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but his former agent stated that he almost definitely would have moved had it not been for the transfer ban. Shame really. Hopefully, the reason we haven't signed another attacker is because we'll get him in Jan or next summer.

Like I've said, the 7 is free and available for a reason... He's Utd bound next summer, IMO.

He wont be coming here now. Would love him here but the landscape will look very different next summer. We will have other targets/priorities and he will have other options. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't stay on at athletico as he obviously loves the club.

No they aren't

Griezmann is one of the best players in the world when he is played in the middle. He is a different type of player but if you look at his game, his movement and his goal threat he is so much beter than Mkhitaryan or Mata ever were and will be.

Size does have some relevance in the EPL, BUT it isn't the be all and end all.
Kante was last year's player of the year and I think AG is at least as tall as him. Kante is "physical", though.

EPL tested is absolutely relevant.
I remember Fergie buying a lot of EPL tested players. In fact, he would spend a lot of money on buying EPL tested players, breaking British transfer records, rather than buy a cheaper foreigner. The one time he spent big on a foreigner (Veron), he wasn't so great. And more recently, Di Maria. Being EPL tested is definitely worth paying extra for, as foriegn players can struggle to adapt to life in England and the playing style of EPL.

In support of your argument though, AG is not some "unknown" and should at least do reasonably well in the EPL.

I just don't see him joining us. He is at a club he clearly loves (even money could not lure him away) and I think he'll remain there for a good few years.

The fact that All the best players come from outside the EPL and dominate there completely undermines the PL proven argument. Also primarily players fail for a multitude of reasons. What about all the "PL proven" players that fail every season or have a bad season?
