Thing is we don't know what the delay is. Might be letting athleico sort a replacement out.
From now until August isn't enough time? If they know he is off, what difference does it make getting a new striker (which they already did) a week before or a week after Griezmann leaving.

Main player currently playing that I'd compare him to would probably be Muller. He's quicker and a lot more delicate (silky) I'm his touches, but the positions he takes up as well as his knack for finding spaces is probably most comparable to him.

Both work best off a main striker and both can play wide if required despite being more effective through the middle. Also both are good at linking play despite their main strength being the goals they score.

He has a touch of the Forlan for me. The one in Spain on top of his game (I loved Forlan).

Don't see him as being as bullish as Forlan. He had immense strength and work rate that Griezmann doesn't get near.

Griezmann's work rate is excellent also but I'll give you the strength with Forlan (didn't say he was a carbon copy) just that he reminded me of Forlan.

Because it could weaken their negotiating position.

United will (hopefully) have learnt from the Pogba saga that it's best to just get it done. It's better for them, the player and Madrid. Everyone wants the deal to go through, just get it done without all the hype as people will just get bored as the circus was done with Pogba.

If it's not done by the end of June, it's poor from all parties in my opinion.

There was no delay on our part for pogba. We couldn't sign him before August because pogba had euros till July first week and then went on vacation for the rest of the month. Once he was back we signed him immediately and he could have played our first game (vs Bournemouth) if not for his suspension in serie A

My point was in regards to the commercial process. Commercials were done weeks in advance. All parties knew the deal would go through but Adidas and United saw an opportunity to milk every penny out of it that they could.

This time around, no need for it in my opinion. When the deal gets rubber stamped, announce it and move on.

With this kind of thing, Athletico don't benefit obviously with everyone knowing he's leaving so we just have to wait and see. The more people know, the less they'll be able to do with the money.

So there's 1 week left, according to his timescale?

He's coming and whilst the name excites me, and no doubt he's a player...just where do we play him that's he's gonna merit the fee. I think it's like the Pogba signing, you don't sign a player for 90m and then play them in positions that they can't affect the game....

Who is that then? Atletico have a transfer ban - they haven't signed anyone and won't be doing so until they find a way to overturn the ban.
My apologies, I thought the ban was set to be up lifted allowing Lacazette to move. I need to get up to date with the twitter goings on.

Griezmann is off, we all assume that, so if/when he leaves, they either don't sign a replacement or they'll get Lacazette as I'm pretty sure Lyon confirmed the deal is done for when the CAS overturn the ban.

Does anyone know whether Atletico can in any way block a Griezmann transfer despite him having a buyout clause? From what I've heard these buyout clauses aren't always as straight forward as they seem. I'd expect Atletico to have a clause within the clause which allows them to block outgoings during transfer bans, or something like that.

Lacazette said he was leaving Lyon. That's it. There has been nothing from player or club regarding where he is going. I wouldn't be assuming it's definitely Atletico - a lot can happen in football.

I don't think they can block but there is something related to tax so it gets more expensive for the buying club to pay a buyout clause.

I don't think so but the player could decide to say one more season just out of respect for the club. He has a very good relationship with the manager and he likes the club unless it's changed so he could very well decide against the move.

Atlético's transfer fate will be decided next week. Griezmann has said a week ago, he will decide on his future in the next fortnight so there's a very good chance he's waiting to see if the ban is lifted or not.

Just fixing your comment, no need to thank me.

They'll just do what Real did and take it to a trial. That'll buy them this window and they'll end up buying 5/6 just incase.

I have few questions.
1) Where do we play him, lone striker? Mourinho has never played his style of player on his own as a striker.
2)If he plays as a second striker, what happens to Mata and Mikhy then?
3) Can he play on the wings?
4) Can he play as a no 10?
5) Can he play at the tip of the midfield triangle?
6) Which footballer, past or present his playing style is closest to.
7) How's his injury record.
I'll leave it at 7. #AG7

1) Most likely behind the striker.
2) Griezmann is one of the world's best players, feck Mkhi and Mata tbf. Besides, they mostly play off the wings anyway.
3) Yes
4) He plays in the number 10 position but is more of a shadow striker, rather than a conventional number 10. Don't think this means his ability on the ball etc. is weak though. He's great at link up play, but first and foremost he's a goalscorer.
5) He could but it probably wouldn't be his best position as he'd be too far from goal. This would hinder the best aspects of his game, his movement off the ball and his ability to get into channels.
6) Bit of a tough one this, not exactly sure, has a pretty unique style. Maybe someone else can chime in.
7) Great, barely ever injured from what I've seen.

Cantona Anyone?

In matches where United dominate then the forwards can play all over the place!

In matches where United struggle having Griezmann and Rashford to play on the counter is perfect!

Spanish clubs are such a pain to deal with when it comes to buying their players but I have no doubt that Griezmann coming to us is already pretty much a done deal. Hope Agent Pogba helps us to speed up with the transfer!

Aguero ?

So it has been about 1 week since he said it would be sorted in 2 weeks right? I don't know how to fidn the threadmarks. But I suspect it wont be long now until we find out if he's joining us.

The interview is the first post in this thread.
It has been exactly one week since that interview, though I highly doubt his future will be resolved before the end of the international games

He's in Clairefontaine.
He'll spend 2 weeks in this castle with Pogba.

It's a done deal :)

Oh right I forgot this was a separate thread from the 100 page Griezmann thread.

I'am starting to think this isn't going to happen with the latest Atlético comments.
Every club in the world says the same thing about their best players.

What should Atletico say? "We don't want to sell Griezmann but it's likely he will go to a bigger club than us because it's unlikely we will challenge for trophies where as Man Utd have just won two this season."

They can make us pay the release clause in one lump sum the moment we sign him. We're rich, but we're not Google and paying 85 million plus other fees most likely involved in one swoop would probably put us off because paying in installments is the standard.

I think this is going to come down entirely to the CAS verdict. Think personal terms have already been agreed, else Griezmann wouldn't talk like that on French TV. Hopefully the transfer ban is lifted.

Their ban is on registering players. With his buyout clause whether the ban stands or not means jack. If we meet it he's ours.
