Ahh, cheers.In the know
Yeah right.... when has that ever happened in the past 7 years that a top players leaves a top club for another top club in winter?I have a feeling we're going to sign him in the winter when Athletico's transfer ban comes to an end.

No chance in the winter, maybe summer but we may pursue other targets by then. No way Athleti would sell mid season, they could be in the race for La Liga or CL and it'd crazy for them to sell him then.I have a feeling we're going to sign him in the winter when Athletico's transfer ban comes to an end.
He's been right a few times and doesn't make a sing and dance about any of it. In fact rarely gets drawn into talking about it.
He wasn't even wrong about this one, it was clear as day the transfer has been on for a long while and United briefed the press that our priorities shifted from 10 to 9 very recently.
From what I recall he never claimed it was a confirmed transfer, just that all parties involved wanted to make it happen this summer and that seems to be the case until very recently.
Voice of reason, no need for hysterics.Time to stop torturing ourselves over this one. It simply isn't happening this summer. I don't believe that United had a sudden change of focus due to a realization that a true centre forward is a more pressing concern. That's nonsense. Our needs and targets have been well defined for quite some time. Similarly, I don't believe that Griezmann "bottled it" or, himself, had a sudden change of heart. Rather, I believe that both United and a Griezmann knew that certain things needed to fall into place for this to happen. First, United needed to qualify for the Champions League (done) and be willing to pay Atletico the fee outlined in the buyout clause (presumably not a problem). Second, Atletico's transfer ban needed to be lifted (didn't come to pass). My guess is that these parameters were well-established and known to both camps. I don't think United will have been surprised at all that, in the circumstances (and at least for now), Griezmann won't move.
I also don't think Griezmann should be vilified for staying this summer. That sort of loyalty is somewhat rare. Moreover, if you take an objective look at things, Atletico may be just as likely to win trophies next season as a United.
I suspect that this move may be resurrected next summer. I doubt any bridges have been burned. United will have had contingency plans in place. We'll address our needs this summer. If all goes well, Griezmann could move a year from now (at which time either Mata or Mkhitaryan could be replaced). If he signs a new contract with an increased buyout clause, then the deal likely never happens. If he doesn't, it is likely just on hold.
Haha if that's the case then he wouldn't have come out with a quote explicitly stating he wanted to win titles while keeping the destination ambiguous.Maybe that's why he decided to stay. Oh Snap!
OK what has happened??? Why was this tread reopened?
Griezmann: "Now more then ever Atleti."
If anything significant changes, thread will be reopened. Until then, go wild in the Perisic thread or something.

Well at least it wasn't turned into a huge fiasco, It would of been alot worse knowing he is staying at atleti just as the season starts.
Reminder: 2018 World cup upcoming. No marquee player will leave current club to other club for half season. No chance to get Griez on January.
No way that's going to happen as he would be cup tied.I have a feeling we're going to sign him in the winter when Athletico's transfer ban comes to an end.
A fiasco? It kind of is a fiasco at the moment to be honest.
Also, as much as I don't think we'll get Griezmann, I still think this saga will go on all summer.
A fiasco?
The transfer window hasn't even opened yet.
It's only a saga when you allow it to be one.It kind of is a fiasco at the moment to be honest.

Are you wuming us?

I personally suggest locking this thread - it's pointless. Messi, Neymar and Griezmann aren't happening anytime soon.
If I was an Atleti fan I'd be pretty pissed off with Griezmann right now, given all the transfer teasing and what he's said about wanting to move for trophies etc that tweet he's made is incredibly two-faced.
Seems to me it's more about us dropping our interest than any transfer ban.
That said I'm annoyed about this - we shouldn't be turning down players of this calibre no matter what our short term priorities are.
This winterNext summer, lads. Next summer...
Agree mate. I am disappointed too but the internet is easily ignored. That's true I guess.
Obviously I'll be disappointed if we don't manage to sign Griezmann, but I'm actually pretty relaxed about the whole situation.
Jose will be putting pressure on Woodward to make a statement this transfer window, reinforcing the squad with quality additions.
I'm sure there are probably many players out there that we don't know well or haven't even been linked with which will turn out to be good signings.
So it's the mods fault that people are idiots with no self control? It shouldn't have been closed in the first place. Posters wanted to vent but had nowhere to rant and rave So were spamming the twitter thread which is supposed to be tweets only.
Re-opening this thread was a good idea imo.

The transfer window doesn't need to be open for it to be a fiasco.
This has been going on for a few months now and the media are loving it.
The fact that there are 116 pages in this thread before the transfer window is even open is also a bit mental.
People being frustrated seems like a natural thing when such news hits home. They need a place to vent said frustration, redcafe for alot of people is that place. If you shut off the dedicated transfer thread and forbid people from venting frustration in the transfer tweet section, where do they have to go ?

The media will love anything. The media will turn anything into a story. Until the season starts who fecking cares.
