This feels like it's still on. A few meaningless tweets aren't gonna change that. If he puts out a definitive statement that's a different matter.

Look, it's quite simple. Buy Bale and play him in the centre this season. Then buy Griezmann next summer and switch Bale out to the right, with Griezmann as the ten.
Nah screw Griezmann, he bottled his chance to sign for United, it's a very loyal thing to do and all that but what a disaster of a decision regarding his career. I hope we move on to other targets and build a nice forward setup without needing to spend another 100m next summer.

Same. Pilip's tweets yesterday make a point. It just sounds too odd. Why would we kill our interest so suddenly? Did no one consider the prospect of the ban behind upheld? Why was Griezmann so nonchalant when talking about United a couple of weeks ago? Why are they brining up Ibra's injury as a reason - he's been injured for months.

I get the feeling that the fire is still there. It may not be rising, but it's been temporarily contained for whatever reason.

Stop doing it to yourselves lads. That message he posted on social media, a few hours after United's "cooling interest" and a few hours after the CAS decision is very much telling. He said a decision would be made within two weeks, and he's made it. This one is over.
It's off, time to move to other targets. I wonder if Jose would have pused for Silva if he knew AG will not join

Next summer, lads. Next summer...
No, I really hope we do not go for him next summer. He will be 27 and us paying around 100 million for a player that will give us 3 years at the top (if we're lucky) is just not worth it. Better try to fill his role now.

He missed his chance.

Meaningless tweets? Plenty of journalists reported our interest cooled down, now he says Atleti more than ever. He would look like an idiot to their fans and it looks like he really cares for that club.

Oh, ye of little faith. I'm usually very negative, but I still have a feeling it could happen. There's nothing definite about his tweet; he is very much still an Atleti player. Yes, he could say nothing but that wouldn't look good when the appeal was confirmed denied.

Sanchez and Lukaku for £45m and £65m respectively? Though it looks like the club is only looking for a striker, not a ten. Which doesn't solve our goals problem.

Is it not possible that it was pre agreed that in the unlikely event that Atletico's ban was upheld that he would stay, and we would walk away for now?

It seems to me that the ban been upheld seemed unlikely given Atletico's transfer plans were already been well planned, and that Greizmann had started playing the sort of games Pogba did last summer before he came to us, reckon it was all a bit of shock hence the quick backtracking.

Wishful thinking for Sanchez's price

Maybe it's just me but I see no reason to applaud his loyalty in this case. He's being loyal to a club that has broken rules and are being punished. They couldn't replace him if he leaves but so what? That's the whole point of a punishment, you suffer for doing something wrong.

If you're so certain that's how you'll feel about him after just one season, then did/do you not have doubts about us potentially forking out £90m on him this window?

Because 26 is not that old but most players in his position quickly start declining after that. Furthermore we shouldn't wait for a player, no matter who he is, when we can upgrade on his position right now. What should we do? Wait for him a season without buying a quality player thereby risking our chances of getting top 4 or just fill the gap with some mediocre player and then buy Griezmann? Both options are not worth it.

No player is bigger than the club and Griezmann is not that special so we can wait for him till he wants. There are other good players out there that can do the job just as well.

Time to stop torturing ourselves over this one. It simply isn't happening this summer. I don't believe that United had a sudden change of focus due to a realization that a true centre forward is a more pressing concern. That's nonsense. Our needs and targets have been well defined for quite some time. Similarly, I don't believe that Griezmann "bottled it" or, himself, had a sudden change of heart. Rather, I believe that both United and a Griezmann knew that certain things needed to fall into place for this to happen. First, United needed to qualify for the Champions League (done) and be willing to pay Atletico the fee outlined in the buyout clause (presumably not a problem). Second, Atletico's transfer ban needed to be lifted (didn't come to pass). My guess is that these parameters were well-established and known to both camps. I don't think United will have been surprised at all that, in the circumstances (and at least for now), Griezmann won't move.

I also don't think Griezmann should be vilified for staying this summer. That sort of loyalty is somewhat rare. Moreover, if you take an objective look at things, Atletico may be just as likely to win trophies next season as a United.

I suspect that this move may be resurrected next summer. I doubt any bridges have been burned. United will have had contingency plans in place. We'll address our needs this summer. If all goes well, Griezmann could move a year from now (at which time either Mata or Mkhitaryan could be replaced). If he signs a new contract with an increased buyout clause, then the deal likely never happens. If he doesn't, it is likely just on hold.
I can see this happening just got a feeling theres more to this than meets the eye. Utd wouldnt have cooled on the idea. They have known for a couple of months that Ibra needed replacing, and probably knew the transfer ban would probably stand. I think Griezmann for whatever reason has backed out and can see a new contract being signed with £100-120 million buyout clause. Perhaps Real have told him to hang on, who knows?

it's as simple as this: every reliable journo has been briefed, the atletico journo walked back his first report, griezmann has made comments/liked stories on twitter that he's saying because of the ban. We just have to let this go.

It was always about the transfer ban, and it continue to be so, no matter how many ITK's we listen to.

He's been right a few times and doesn't make a sing and dance about any of it. In fact rarely gets drawn into talking about it.

He wasn't even wrong about this one, it was clear as day the transfer has been on for a long while and United briefed the press that our priorities shifted from 10 to 9 very recently.

From what I recall he never claimed it was a confirmed transfer, just that all parties involved wanted to make it happen this summer and that seems to be the case until very recently.

I have a feeling we're going to sign him in the winter when Athletico's transfer ban comes to an end.

You need to go back and read some of his recent posts I think. Not saying he is a definite bullshitter but he was certain this would happen and has been saying so for a while now.

Oh well, we move on. I guess the only thing we have to wait for is Griezmann's new contract announcement then we can try and forget this thread ever happened.

I'm sorry, each to their own but it's a little odd that people follow him around believing every word he says. I find it pretty hilarious, personally.

Maybe he wasn't 100% decided on moving and us cooling our interest and prioritising other targets has made up his mind for him to stay put.

He's a troll of the highest order and probably doesn't really know what he wants to do. Just looking at his allegiances towards certain NBA franchises and he can't decide which team he likes the most this week or the next. Honestly, I wouldn't really care, if he's not coming and the plan is to actually play 4-3-3 with Pogba in his best position. I'd be pleasantly surprised actually, since I thought Mourinho would definitely play his 4-2-3-1.
