Mata doesn't work very hard up and down the wing. His contribution defensively is perhaps underrated, but it's still not very good. He certainly doesn't run up and down the wing like Willian. Griezmann does work hard defensively as well as offensively for Atletico, and I'm sure he'd do the same for United. Which means that the defensive contribution from that part of the pitch wouldn't be very weakened, if weakened at all, if we were to replace Mata with Griezmann.
You're confusing pace with work rate. Mata runs his balls off every game, rarely ever let's his fullback run passed him (if he can keep up pace wise) and never let's his RB get double teamed.

Yes Griezmann could potentially do a similar job, but we are going to pay £89m and stick him on the wing? no chance.

I said once Barca let Neymar go that they would go aggressively after Grizou.

They will now do that since the buyout clause is back at 100 million.

Grizou to Barca.

Well PSG have an obligation to pay near 200 million for Mbappe next summer, so I'm not sure they will spend another 100 million up front.

He will choose us over Barca. I would be surprised if he didn't already have a gentlemen's agreement with Mourinho.

If not, no problems. We can chase someone like Dybala, he won't be able to go to Barca if Griezmann and Coutinho do, as there would be no place for him. But I don't think it will come to that, we will get Griezmann if we want him.

Yep, it will be Griezmann or Dybala for us next year and in both cases, it could be fantastic.

Always thought that too, he flirted with the idea of joining us. Big profile move, huge wage increase and his mate Pogba here. I always thought it was strange that he signed a new contract, with a wage increase with the same buy out clause returning after the window closed. Him saying he will be there for the season, refusing long term commitment but he was being loyal because of the transfer ban? He had one foot in and the other out, he's keeping his options open. I've always said that he was never convinced and wanted it enough. Could be proved wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at barca in the summer.

I dont think he is coming here but we shall see.

Why do so many people recently think we have a chance there? Have I missed something?

Raiola being his agent probably has a lot to do with it, although he doesn't like England he said in an interview, something to do with the weather.

If he goes to Barca, we should drop 150m in front of Juve for Dybala.

I didn't think Raiola was his agent? I know he commented on Dybala, but I thought it was more in passing. Or perhaps putting himself in a position to try to become his agent in a year or two if Dybala does want to push for either a move or a massively increased contract.

If Barca buy him then they'd be moving Suarez on, neither him or Griezmann would accept the Pedro role.

Griezmann doesn't play Suarez role. If Antoine joined he would play in Messi position and push him forward but that's not going to happen.
With Dembele on the right I cant see where Griezmann would play for them

Might not be the most popular opinion, but if we don't get Griezmann or Dybala, I'd be okay with Fekir. He looks to be back to his best and he's still only 24, there's still lots of room for him to grow.

Potential to become a very good player - in the Mkhitaryan, or Mata calibre - but if we can aim higher we really should.

He's also a huge Utd fan so he wouldn't have a problem with potential rotation

He already is.
Eh. He's hardly going to shoot into world beater levels, which is my point. There's better out there. But like you said, not a popular opinion.

That could easily happen considering past performances and his start to the season. His injury set him back for a while and it took a year to get back to his best again, but the way he's currently playing, he's going to force his way into a very good France team and eventually get a transfer to a better team.

It wasn't about the position, just that if Griezmann comes in Suarez will be the one that gets shunted out and I'm not sure Barca are ready to move him on yet.

We've talked about Fekir before and he was on the verge of being a top player when he got the ACL injury, but I agree he's starting to find his best form again and is young enough to improve further, he's carrying a depleted Lyon right now. I think Fekir is physically suited to the #10 role in the PL, he's a sturdy little fella.

Fekir? I thought he was a Barcelona fan.

Well he did call us a club of dreams so who knows I suppose. Griezmann himself seems to have supported 27 clubs growing up

He said some nice things about us as well. Basically like Griezmann with his NBA teams.

 Griezmann does like a jersey or two.

Was that just after we signed Martial? I do think Fekir could be a good under the radar option if we can't get the top choices.

Good question, I don't remember to be honest. Just that he said all the right things about more than one club. I think it was us, Barcelona and Munich. Been a while, since then.

Pre-injury I rated him as high as Dybala. But from what I've seen, he's lost a fair bit of pace since he's come back.

I don't mind that, I prefer a player courting all the big clubs for his career rather than having tunnel vision to only play for Barca or Real.

I like Griezmann, but I wouldn't feel that gutted if he did go to PSG or Barca instead. I think there's other players who could become just as good, I'd happily give our Gomes a chance TBH.
I agree with this. Would hate to see Griezmann squeeze Martial or Rashford out too.

Surely PSG are somewhat shackled by FFP now?
FFP is a complete farce. Look at City and pSG. Record spenders, small-to-medium sized clubs at best. They are oil/state funded. There are no restrictions, at least not any that bribes can't sort out.

I'd love Griezmann at United but you know what...

Not at the expence of Rash and Tony and it has to be said now Lukaku too. Can he do the Mkhi/Mata role?

I think he would be great in the current Mata position with Mhiki behind Lukaku.

Tonight's game is pretty much what to expect with Griezmann, he'll not be involved for long periods but then pops up with a clinical finish and an assist.

We need a David Silva more than an Antoine Griezmann. Is there not anybody out there who can control games from that #10 position without going missing for periods each game?

Filipe Luis said Griezmann used Utd to get a better deal at Atletico.
