What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Mental fee if this goes through. I know he's highly rated but just looking at his record, you surely can't be buying someone with that record for a price like that. With that said, I haven't seen him play, but I do find it hard to believe he's worth that. There's gonna be serious pressure on him.

it makes no sense at all. In todays age wonderkids are known by even average football fans: Pogba, Odegaard, Depay have been touted for a while.

So how come nobody puts this kid into that bracket? And therefore how does the selling club justify that level of fee?

Phil Neville is a fan

However, it is understood that Van Gaal has been an admirer of Martial for some time and was encouraged to step up his interest after Monaco were knocked out of the Champions League by Valencia last week, sensing a possible shift in the French club’s stance that the player was not for sale. In spite of the astronomical fee, Valencia assistant manager and former United defender Phil Neville learned from those two ties just what an exciting prospect his old club have acquired.

‘He was unplayable at times,’ Neville told Sportsmail on Monday. ‘He has strength, pace, everything you could look for. He kept drifting out to the left and causing us problems. He’s a proper centre-forward. Every time he got the ball your heart was in your mouth. He was really good in both games, especially at the Mestalla.

‘He’s a proper signing and I think he’s a better bet than spending the same on Edinson Cavani or someone similar.’

Quite shocked at how many people hadn't even heard of him, fair enough if you've never seen him play but his name has been known for a year or two now.

Yeah it's really odd.

Especially as he had two good games against Arsenal in the Champions League.

How can people have heard nothing about him? Okay it's probably not that surprising but in FM and FIFA at the very least he's been a wonderkid for years

People are genuinely suggesting that it's a dodgy deal.

He's useless in football manager 14, in my save anyway

Interesting. Sounds like he's going to be competing more with Rooney and Depay than Mata.
He can play on either side, just happened to vs Valencia go to the left. Valencia's right side was probably weaker then the left.
My guess would be us starting:
Martial
Memphis Rooney Mata
So all of them still starting. Gives us the pace and movement up top and on the wing, and Rooney can get more involved in the game.

40 goals and 25 assists a season for me, last time I had him. This will probably happen in real life.
He's always one of the best in the world in my saves.
Side note Tielemens and Draxler are always shit for me
Tielemans usually gets saddled with a bad personality for some reason, and means he never peaks. I did make him into a ridiculously good striker once.

That's kind of the opposite of what we need...

Wait has it gone through yet or not? In every other thread it seems a foregone conclusion but MUFC hasn't tweeted anything yet.

Not sure what the fuss is with the transfer fee. This summer has shown that fees have gone crazy anyway, and 36mil is not what it used to be. We missed out on another 19-year old Lucas Moura 3 years ago, and the fee touted then was at least 30+mil.

I can't say I know much about him at all (just as it was with Darmian), but I'll trust our scouts and coaching team on this, more than I would any pundit or journalist. Not thrilled that this move seems to have come at the expense of Chicharito, but I can't wait to see him in action nonetheless.

This is the sort of player we should be adding as an understudy to an existing, top draw centre forward. Shame that he will have to become that or we are fecked. Rooney will be plying in the MLS next year. He's done.

Never seen him on fifa nor never brought him in manager mode and being based in Australia the french wunderkids go under the reader

I am definitely happy with this signing. My only qualms is the price we paid but then again that has to do with Mendes being involved. I think he fits perfectly well in our system and can be used on wings or as a striker. Start the game with Memphis-----Mata-------Martial behind Rooney and if need be sub Rooney and play Martial up front.

Considering he is only 19 and still has been in the news since last 2-3 years shows that this guy is a talent and can become huge.

He's a very good young talent however its a panic buy. Or else why would we leave it so late and pay such a huge amount.

The excuse is that we were scouting him for a year and were given encouragement to bid after Monaco dropped out of CL.

Which would make sense if we were paying a reasonable price. However, we're playing a huge one. The idea that Monaco would have rejected it if they made the champions league? Cant see it

Well and good but Monaco have been selling their best players since the window opened. Kondogbia to Inter and Carrasco to Atletico was wrapped up a few months ago. Abdennour to Valencia was wrapped up after Valencia secured CL qualification. Kurzawa to PSG. All very young too and for a fair price.

They don't have to sell him just because they're not in the CL. We have had to make an offer they can't refuse either way.
