What’s the alternative at this point?

I can’t see a single argument to the tune of Martial is amazing; let’s keep him no matter what as is implied.

The reality is that the only strikers at the club are Ronaldo, who is 37, and Rashford, who isn’t really a striker. Martial, whether you like him or not, is still a player on our books who does, in spite of how bad things have been recently, have enough about him to come in and do some kind of job.

If Harry Kane or Haaland were on their way into the club then by all means send him on his way, but that isn’t happening. I think Ten Hag is going to have to try and make this work.

But he was here and he didnt do any kinds of job other than a shit show.
What makes you think he will be any different?

He may as well be doing nothing somewhere else

Seeing this guy back in a shirt is possibly one of the things I'm least looking forward to in the ETH era. My hopes are not high, but I'm open to seeing something from him in his first appearance and we'll take it from there. If he can find it within himself to get into shape and run a bit that would be a building block.

Oh lord, I cant bare another season of watching martial in a united shirt, i really cant!

For me, there have been two players here that have displayed a bad attitude. Only two (plus maybe Pogba), the rest struggle because they're just shite. So for all the talk of selling players with bad attitude, the only two players that I feel have a bad attitude will still be here next season: Rashford and Martial. Let that sink in. Nothing is changing because somebody at the club seemingly has a hard on for these two feckers.

£290 a week. Staggering. Woody & Judge probably the worst thing to happen to our club for a long long time.

Well the main difference in those two is that one actively wants to leave and one is willing to stay and at least give it a shot.
Didn't we get noise about Rashford wanting out when he wasn't starting under Ralf?
The issue for both of them is the same and I suspect Martial was more vocal because he had been demoted to the 3rd/4th striker in the depth chart. Now with Cavani and Greenwood out, he's firmly second, behind a 38 year old Ronaldo. He will be guaranteed games. I also think Martial has better technique than Rashford so if anything will be better suited to ETH. Again, not saying he's the long term solution, just one for this season where we can't sell him because is value is too low, contract is too high and we can't afford to shell out on an elite striker, of which the market is bare.

I have no idea. He might well be shite, albeit it is disingenuous to suggest that this was always the case. It isn’t.

Once again, this is just another boring feck him off and sell him post, devoid of any informative suggestions.

If we sell Martial then the only striker at the club is a 37 year old Ronaldo. So, tell me, who do we bring in to replace him, and is it so pressing that the huge sums of money this player would cost takes priority over the two midfielders we clearly need more?

I’m going to repeat that Martial has been shite for a long time. He has also been unfit. Find me a post that argues otherwise. But, be honest, what are the alternatives as it stands?

We've a whole transfer window to get someone in the whole world of football. There has to be someone.

Martial hasn't really played for United for a whole season so it's not the departure of Wayne Rooney here is it? It's a gap that needs filling for sure but let's not be defeatist and just accept the fact there is no alternative. If Manchester United can't bring in a striker then there are more serious issues to deal with.
We need to spend money up front as much as the midfield. Maybe even just as much.

What striker do you sign who can make a difference now, is good enough to be here for the long term and is willing to come knowing they’re going to be on the bench for 85% of our games? All for about 25m considering we need to sign 5 other players. If I’m a top manager who thinks I can get the best out of players Martial would appeal to me if he wants to stay, you can get him fit and you can get him motivated. Granted all three of those are big ifs.

I think the lazy fecker will get a chance. Only because we need to build a whole new team.
I'll be flabbergasted if Martial plays more than a bit part for the new manager but you never know

Keeping unmotivated sulky players isn't the way to build a dressing room. Especially when he's being paid more than many of the ones who do try.

As if the only reason to get rid is to spite him. Martial FC dipping their toes in the water again, going to be terrible when he has a half decent game and he's 'back'.

I would like it if he has some decent games actually. I hope he will be considered ''back''. Doubt it will happen though... although he really isnt any worse than Rashford has been past season.

He will be our backup striker next season since noone will buy him and we do not have the funds to buy an upgrade. I think Martial needs a manager who will put an arm around him and build his fragile confidence. Talentwise he is on another level than Rashford and Elanga and they cannot play up front.

I actually think that it's not the type of manager that he needs at all. Jardim, Mourinho and LVG managed to coax something out of him by being on his back, not cuddling him.

Right then, who?

I’m really not trying to be obtuse here, but it’s clear that this isn’t an easy one; your lack of obvious suggestions says as much. It’s less about bringing somebody in and more about bringing in the right body.

We need midfielders significantly more than we do a striker, for what it’s worth. Our starting pair is Fred and McTominay. Up top, at least we can play the likes of Ronaldo, Sancho and Rashford. Far from perfect but not bottom half material.

If we accept that we need at least two midfielders, a centre half and, in my opinion, a right back, then who is available to replace Martial for an acceptable fee? Even more so, who is going to come in and be content behind Ronaldo for a season? Honestly, it isn’t easy, this one.

We should still sign an attacker, but yes, Martial would be best as a back up striker and depth on the left flank. There's no point disposing of him on loan as no club would take him, plus he does have a bit of talent, enough to supplement Ronaldo when rest is needed or back up Sancho/Rashford. Plus it would give Garnacho a chance to develop without the pressure of having to back up Ronaldo. Midfield and Right back are the two main areas of concern and sorting then out would make us good even if Martial starts. Arsenal having outperformed us with far less attacking talent due to this

I really hope that Martial and Rashford respect our new manager and the club and approach the coming season with the attitude to work their socks off for the team. Both were featuring for their countries based on their good form a couple of seasons ago and now they are virtually out of the international picture due to their recent club performances so I hope they can look deep into themselves and find a bit of pride in their performance.

With not many options out there we should at least give him one more season to prove himself with a new trainer. I dont know why but i still believe he can score around 15 goals and get som assist and be good back up for Ronaldo.

I might be in the minority here, but I think he will come good next season as a squad back up to Ronaldo, especially if we fail to land a back up striker.

Personally Martial is built for a possession based system. The only downside is that he is expected to press which I think is more of a mental issue than physical one with him.

One of ETH strengths is his man management. Let's see if he can work his magic and get a salvage title Martial to perform for at least one season. I know he is not a magician, but still better than nothing.

This is coming from someone who wanted him out last season and this season as well.

I’ll be happy with Martial contributes 10 G/A next season, that’s the level his stocks have fallen.

Right now yes, but in a team that performs much better then we have last seasons he could get more then that. He is not a player that will take us back to the highest level but we could take him to a higher level - if it makes sense.

The only good the 'FC Martial' period did was highlighting which posters to ignore when it comes to football opinions. Never seen a whole group with a joint belief just get absolutely annihilated like they did. Was one of the most frustrating times on here.
You are taking that Fc Martial too serious man. It is just (more or less) a joke.

Someone like Kane who was injured before the COVID break, then not be able to access to normal training, was unfit after the restart.

Weird post, I wish I was that unfit.

He is sat in the most unflattering position possible with terrible lighting and you can still see his abdominal muscles ect (not wanting to get to weird)

The job of deputising for Ronaldo and maybe scoring a few goals. Hardly a ludicrous suggestion in the event he stays fit (the bigger issue).

The club has neither the ability, balls or cash flow to be able to do what you can probably want it to do. Accept it. I already have, hence I’m resigning myself to the prospect of trying to get a tune out of Martial again.
It is biggest myth that club is working with peanuts. And Glazers are minted ,they can put some cash in the club but they choose not to do.

Sevilla director says Martial needed longer to adapt to Spain and Sevilla and when he was just starting to adapt he got injuries. Goes on the say that they won’t be signing him permanently and mentions his injuries again.

If you can't be that fit you inherit bad gene, or simply a lazy ass.

You know Mourinho had an Instagram dad post with picture of Kane also in his underwear watching golf. Even Spurs fans got all with the fat banter just fine. Go on Reddit or a Spurs forum and try to argue with them about photography.

Your expert evaluation doesn't change the point that during the restart period, many players were unfit and played at lower intensity which happened to be Martial most productive period.

Something still makes me think he’s going to tear it up and I know it’s a fool’s hope. Honestly the natural talent and expectations we had versus where he is now is sickening.
