Not really, you won’t see him doing a knee slide at the corner flag, but reactions today were very muted.

It’s been a rough season, and now with explicit racism and death threats on social media, I would be surprised if it didn’t weigh on his mind.
Yeah... Rashford didn't celebrate his goal either. Such a shame for young men to have to carry such burdens on their shoulders because of ignorant idiots

He has 4 premier league goals. 1 against Villa and 1 against Sheffield United in December apparently.
1 less than Cavani :p

For me, the best thing about Martial's goal today wasn't the first touch or the finish. It was that he made that run in the first place. He is too often looking for ball to feet with back to goal and doesn't anticipate enough and make runs into space. I want to see more of that...

Yeah, he was making loads of runs in behind when he came on.

Great to see today. It was a unique situation this game but every moment for him was in and around the goal and looking like scoring. That's what we want from him. Be a striker. Be hungry for goals and show your quality. Pen was a dive IMO, but that doesn't change the rest of his performance! Martial to his credit is someone who tends to respond after being benched, but it's fine to leave him on the bench for now. Need more of the same and it's helpful to have someone like him to have an impact off the bench or to rotate around. Just needs to keep at it, because last week vs Sheffield Utd was terrible and a real low for him, probably his worst ever performance. Anyway, hope he builds from this.

People will see the goals and think "great". I rather am impressed by the performance rather than the output. He showed passion and willingness to run. I feel with Martial he is always very close to becoming complacent at any moment of time and he needs someone there to kick him up the ass regularly. Reminds me of me

Yeah, he was making loads of runs in behind when he came on.

What I’d most like to give him credit for tonight (which is not the horrific dive, the champagne goal, not even the simple tap in created by being at the right place at the right time), is his timing of runs with regard to the offside line. It’s been an Achilles’ heel for him as well as for Rashford, but tonight he did a beautiful job at that.

I've noticed in the past that when he's trying to get in behind, he'll often time his runs excellently and his acceleration can leave defenders in his wake but it's something he doesn't do as much as I'd like.

I think his movement is likely improving in the long term due to him gaining more experience and working with Cavani. I felt he was getting into better positions than he was last season even in the first half of the season but his scoring touch was off. In the limited time they've played together I've noticed they link up extremely well too, I'm delighted we have both.

Didn’t expect that when he came on. Freely admit I’d given up on him.
Hopefully now he knows Cavani will be starting games he’ll fight harder to regain his place.

To be fair i don’t think that’s why they didn’t celebrate. We were playing against ten men and beating them heavily. It’d be in bad taste to be celebrating too much. I’m glad our players were muted in it.

The improvement was there already in the summer, I think, but today was exellent in that regard.

He should always start on the bench and replace Cavani in the second half. Feels like every time he starts his low energy and nonchalant attitude really hurts us. When coming off the bench against tiring defenders he can make a much more significant impact.

Ugh, this is a tired narrative that was put to bed years ago. He's been out of form, it happens.

Those first and second goals were proper strikers goals. Really happy for him but he needs to keep it up cant get complacent again like he has been recently.

Please Ole don’t shoehorn cavani, Rashford and Martial again into the lineup though. Play players in their BEST positions and we will get so much more out of them, even if that means one has to be dropped.

Seems I am in the very small minority that thinks that's not a dive for the penalty. Although Martial could have continued his run if he wanted, he was obstructed and chose to go down for a penalty.

This is what you are supposed to be doing man what were you doing man before this game man

I also don’t think it a dive. You can imagine putting yourself in that situation and the guy’s knee collide with the lateral side around your knee.

Martial have different personality, Rashy was abused he came and admited that on his social media.

Martial was abused so he stoped posting anything on his social media. Last post was in mid October 2020 on his insta.

It’s sickening situation really, beyond ridiculous.
However, staying away from social media probably can help him concentrate more on those valuable things, his family, his football, his passion on things he loves ...
Very sad situation.

I really miss his and Bruno interaction

For me its impossible to see if its a dive or not, but it seems Martial told Bednarek it wasnt a foul based on the footage and the clip of him going into the tunnel.
I'd wish Martial told the ref as well in that case, but im not that naive to not see why he didnt.

Chose to go down?
It was a dive for me all day long.
I get why he dived but I don't like it really.

I wouldn't be getting carried away with last night. He took easy pickings against a depleted team that had a really bad night.

He needs to produce all round performances for a few games for me to have hope for him.

Throughout his career here, he's always responded well to being dropped and reclaimed his spot. Hopefully, he kicks on. On form, he'll win us many games.

He celebrated his second.

Pretty much standard Martial, imo

Exactly, he came on when the game was already over and Southampton had already completely given up. Not hard to run and do things when the other team is not even playing anymore. Do it when you’re under pressure and the team needs you to step up.

Hopefully gives him the confidence to jumpstart his season, need all our forwards firing to sustain a title run. The coming months could be make or break for him.

Pretty ruthless to play for the penalty while being 6-0 up by the way

Can't be sure what was going on in their heads to be fair so you could be right, however, just about every other scorer celebrated with as much enthusiasm as they typically would apart from Martial and Rashford.

It wasn't, he anticipated the challenge and would have been caught if he had continued his run.
Ronaldo does this all the time and I think Gary Neville spoke about it once on Sky.

Happy for Martial, we desperately need him to rediscover his form.

Hope he got much needed confidence boost yesterday. We are going into title showdown and will need all hands.

Happy for him. Being rotated or a sub seems to work when some off our players look out of it
Good performance not just the goals when he came on

Best in a while

A cowardly dive when he was clean through on goal tells me everything I already knew about his mentality.
