People think he is an amazing star. Talented players put that chance away. He neefs space to run and maje some dribbles. He was out of position,no clue where to be and how to deal with defense. Not good enough to be in the top 10 teams in epl,if that.

Talented players miss that chances quite often, they miss easier chances too.

Every time he leads the line against top teams he goes missing. Terribly disappointed in him for not trying harder yesterday, he was just not interested, always drifting towards the left etc etc. I am one of the biggest Martial supporters but I am yet to see him deliver on the big stage, against top teams when it really matters. If the idea was to bring him so he can star against lower sides then please get us a proper striker who can finish against the elite clubs.

Are you sure that you are one of his biggest supporters? Where you asleep against City this season or Chelsea and Arsenal in previous seasons. Also players score less against elite club because they are elite clubs, they tend to not concede much.

Not this again, please. He seemed pretty dismayed at missing the chance, not a sign of a lack of interest. Don't think his performance against big teams is bad either. And all players miss chances, even excellent ones (Salah's miss an easy example).

Him burning chances or not having the right movements in the box has nothing to do with the players around him.

His best season still is 11 goals. Not sure he'll even reach that number again to be fair.

Was a talented kid, now he's turning 25 hasnt been progressing and its time to replace him.
He's 25 in almost a full year. Stop chatting shite.

The bolded in particular is absolute rubbish. Please let me know how you think Dave McGoldrick is better than Martial in any way shape or form.

He banged one in against City last month. Next.

There are people will very short memories. Forget we are playing one of the best sides in world football, with Perreira, Matic, Fred, James and Williams feeding him. What do people expect? Him to get the ball beat half a team and score?

When Rashford plays and others who can be on his wave length, we do see some one touch passing.

He has scored big goals, remember his debut?

Yes I am pretty sure, being a supporter and stating the obvious are two different things, yesterday Martial was wank and should have buried his chance, sulking about the service will not get him anywhere, he should be able to make himself available for the pass. Did you even watch his positioning yesterday? Always afraid to take on the CBs, always drifting on the left, this is the aspect I hate in his game.

He was in dismay after missing the chance yes, but what did he exactly do before that chance and after it? Nothing! I was expecting more hold-up play from him because it seems he can do that but yesterday was just utter rubbish from him, no shots on target, no build-up. I understand's Liverpool pressure is never easy but I would like to see Martial getting his shit together against the big teams REGULARLY.

I watched the game but your second sentence wasn't about that particular game. He also didn't sulk, you are basically spouting the same nonsense that the assumed Martial detractors spout. Now about yesterday, almost all our good attacking movements came from Martial in a game where our midfield and defense were useless, neither were able to hold onto the ball and start clean attacking transitions. Strikers will always struggle in that type of scenario, they can't really get the ball from their own box and dribble everyone, they also can't pass the ball to themselves.

You clearly didn't watch the game very closely. He had a shot on target.

Is it worth even engaging some of the nonsense on here? It's really clear there's a lot of people having an opinion on him without a clue of how football actually works. Anybody who tries to claim that his chance was a sitter is not even worth responding to, you don't know what you're talking about. Martial was solid yesterday, could not get a pass through to him when he was making runs that'd get him 1v1, created several chances, and was one of two bright spots with Fred in an otherwise average side.

It's laughable that it's often the best players that get criticized the most when the team is bang average and needs so many replacements before you even think about Martial.

There was nothing wrong with Martial's attitude yesterday. It's a shame he fluffed his chance but it happens.

Does Rashford also wilt under pressure? He was pretty bad when Martial was out.

I see it as the less quality we have on the pitch, the more the quality we do have will struggle. Seen it with Pogba and Rashford already.

Precisely this. Rashford, Martial and Pogba all have ability but it's harder to show it without the sufficient foils to play off.

The interplay is noticeably better when those 3 play, but even a trio can't do it by themselves let alone any of them as individuals. Those are 3 names with the talent level required to be United players, we need more quality around them.

I remember a few people saying in the Pogba thread that if he leaves, Martial will become the next target, unless we are successful. I can definitely see that happening.

Every time we lose a game of football and Anthony doesn't score pepole whip up the "disinterested" line. Pure rubbish comments to be fair. Yes he is inconsistent, yes he can be a bit lazy sometimes. No way in hell is he one of our problems. Put quality around him and he scores consistently, take that quality away and he struggles. Big shocker is it?

Put Firmino, Harry Kane, Abraham heck even Aguero up front relying on James and Pereira for creativity and see how many goals they score. If you play with clowns, you'll be considered part of the circus act.

There's a class player in there, we just need to find him some competent partners.

Sulk about the service? Did not see that happen, sorry. Do you think the drifting to the left could definitely not have been part of the strategy and intentional, instead of this perceived cowardice of his? Wasn't it when he was playing from the left that his big chance was created?

And wasn't it Martial who crossed for Greenwood's chance (again coming off the left)? Anyway, my initial point was that you could criticise his performance without faulting his attitude or body language. Everyone has bad days and quiet games.

He is been made scapegoat and it's so predictable. He was our 2nd best performer yesterday. People complaining he kept drifting wide to left, what was he supposed to do when we were playing 3-5-2 with him and James playing like split forwards with Pereira behind them.

9/10 times he scores that. He is not our problem. Peirera's decision-making is shocking beyond belief.

The problem Martial has is, he has come into a united team where he has 1 chance a game (which he created by the way). If he was playing for liverpool he would get loads of opportunities to fluff is lines like Salah often does, or Mane did yesterday too.

No-one will success with Peirera behind them and James on the side. Alongside Fred / Shaw was the only real spark we had yesterday.

He was instructed to play left of center. Everyone knows that Alex-Arnold is the chink in Liverpools armor and the best place for Martial to receive the ball was behind Alex-Arnold and against Gomez. Where would you prefer Martial? A target man against VVD?

Bizarre posts.

Was involved in our best moments in the game. He didn't have a great game and should have finished off the chance he started, but he barely had any service to speak of. The pass to AWB was very good.

The annoying thing is he did the hard part to get the space and be in front of goal. For some reason it seemed like he wanted to smash the net. Ive seen him put those away so many times. For his ability he has to score that.

Another issue yesterday was that there isnt enough quality around him. He (and rashford) work well together. When Martial was out, Rashford had that where it was seemingly all on him and there were questions about him.
We gonna see the same with Martial now (with Rashford out)

Playing in a weak team with no real service and then he gets slated for the chance he didn't score but created himself out of nothing... some of the reasoning on this thread is bonkers.

Ole's setup is always quite limited so he's never going to get lots of chances away at Anfield but Liverpool are very open at the back, something even Carragher the most biased man alive always highlights, and twice Martial should have been fed through 1v1 by James. The cross which never reached him and the ball that was way too close to Gomez. Martial makes the right runs and he also creates things - getting a top RW is far more of a priority for us in attack. James is then great cover for the LW now Rashford is out as he's better there anyway.

Dont bother. Ive already read a post stating Martial doesn't show up in big games. I guess people are still lashing out from the loss yesterday. I dont know if they were expecting miracles from him given the quality of both attacks.

No where near are main problem atm but still hilarious seeing people defending him like he's putting 8/10 each game. So many of you lot where writing off Rashford a couple months back when he had to deal with the exact same circumstances that Martial's going to have to deal with now he's out for a few weeks, yet for some reason he's getting major benefit of the doubt.

Do feel for the guy as this is probably only the start of the criticism, hopefully can get a goal or 2 at Burnley and get some decent support from are attack because right now he's got to be are main man.

I think the criticism martial get is similar to what benzema use to get while playing alongside cr7 it took a while before he got the appreciation he deserved, i think if we had a city-like midfied with martial and rashford playing their current position it would bring more out of them, i think buying better midfielders would be essential going forward

Greenwood has scored only two less than him.

A 18 year old in his first season.

Weird comparison. You just look at stats and not when or against who those goals were scored.

Greenwood scored five of his goals in easier Europa League games... games Martail didnt play because he starts during the more difficult games.

I think Greenwood has great potential but he isnt better than Martial at this moment.

Greenwood has scored most of his goals in Europa and cups and Martial has missed 2 months of football. Greenwood has more appearances then him if you're not aware.

By the way Greenwood has also scored the same amount as Firmino, just a few less than Mane and Salah too, maybe you should point out how much they suck or maybe do the rational thing and realize that Greenwood is a talented kid.

Again Martial has missed 2 months of football this season alone. Some of you are simply relentless.

Greenwood has scored most of his goals against Europa and league cup, that's a valid point but using appearances is just stretching it considering Greenwood just played 10-15 mins in most of his appearances. Without checking, I would be very surprised if Martial didn't play at least 2X mins than Greenwood.

Edit: Greenwood played 500 mins less than Martial.

Correct me if i am wrong but hasnt Greenwood started during most EL games?

Are you Paul Ince who wants us to sign Danny ings? Haha

Martial will likely not do much today - do you know why?

Because he is a support striker mate and we need wider forwards like Salah & Co - whilst we have no one. so stop crying about Ings, piatek and Haaland & try understand some tactics for once about what gets the best out of players like Rashford, Greenwood & you will realise how good martial is to the build up play even if he isn't the main goal scorer because that's not supposed to be his main job - that's supposed to be Rashford's & Greenwood's.

Ronaldo - Benzema - Bale

Mane - Firmino - Salah

Rashford - Martial - Greenwood

Just not good enough. I think he's going to be one of those players who always flatters to deceive. Just not got a strong enough mentality.
