The lad is extremely overrated here but he wasn't fully fit for that match and he came in the last 8 minutes or so. Nothing to talk about here.

But in general as I said, good player with some flaws but extremely overrated and has always been.

He's better than most of our other options though. Will take him playing ahead of Lingard and Mata any time.

fecking stupid post.

It's the Pogba/Marital defenders that are blind to the realities of the game, not the other way around.

Let's look at some of the best managers in the game to see what they value/valued.

Fergie - Ji Sung Park, Fletcher, Butt, P. Neville, O'Shea etc. None the most technically gifted but all played hundreds of games for United. Fergie knew how important it was to have workers in the team and actually saw the back of talented players without the work rate ie Veron.

Klopp - Has a team built with quality and hard work, but doesn't carry a single player on his team that isn't willing to work hard and press the opposition. His midfield is literally made up of work horses like Henderson, Milner, Fabinho, Wijnaldum. His full backs bomb up and down the pitch for 90 minutes. Firmino fights for eveything, as do Salah and Mane. Very hard working team, not one comparable to Pogba or Martial when it comes to work rate. Got rid of lazy players like Sturridge previously.

Guardiola - Inherits supremely gifted players and turns them into hard working versions of themselves. He did it at Barca with Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets etc. Try to win the ball back within 5 seconds of losing it. He had a Pogba type player in Yaya Toure, who he had issues with at Barca as he didn't fit his style. Same with Zlatan. No matter how technically gifted they were, if they couldn't fit his high energy style then they didn't survive.

Mourinho - Goes without saying. Had big issues with Pogba, Martial and others.

So basically, you're very wrong in thinking you can get away without working hard on the pitch. Technical ability often means nothing unless you can back it up with effort, especially in the PL and modern day football in general.

Even stupider post. Going on a rant listing high stamina midfielders and expecting the same from a technical number 9 :lol:

I guess Cantona, Berbatov and Ronaldo were all abject failures quickly shown the door by Fergie ey? Salah is obviously only in the 'pool side because of his defensive work rate? Was Messi not the jewel of Guardiolas Barca crown or was Pedro your star man? The bit in bold :wenger::lol::rolleyes: Lionel 'the workhorse' Messi! And Mourinho also never played Ozil, Ronaldo, Zlatan etc because they don't run around like Jesse Lingard. Fantastic observations.

Also, congratulations on bringing Pogba into another thread he doesn't belong in! ;)

The madness kept going I see. You can see some are containing themselves to blame this sub as the direct reason for the equalizer. Go ahead fellas, let it explode

The problem was that Ole shifted tactics and put 4 across the middle which stopped Young and Bissaka stepping in and picking off passes and not pressing. We retreated as a team inviting them on to us.

personally bringing on Greenwood might have been the better option or Martial and Greenwood and leave it as 2 up top but one Martial was only cleared yesterday so probably not fully fit so obvioulsy he is not going to sprint around like Rashford and James were but what he did do which was better was one moment where he took the ball down gave us a break and played a ball through to James.

I guess he’ll probably get 30-45 minutes next game as he continues his comeback.
Yeah that's what I said in my initial post. It was a bad time to bring him on imo. Someone like Greenwood might have been better.

Ease him in in the next couple of games.

Some pathetic posts here, but it was to be expected.

It's the state of our fanbase these days.

When we used to win all the time under Fergie, we used to laugh at other team's fans. Now we are the worst.

I guess it's true what they say, we only show our true selves when things get rough.

Can’t believe he is getting any blame for this game. When he came on Liverpool were dominating and we dropped deeper. He had only couple of chances to get involved in the game and out of that he did really well to hold the possession and pass the ball to James.

To be expected of someone who just came back from injury.

But I'm beginning to see if He's a player based on confidence, his lows and highs gap is so big. If We are to get the best out of him, somebody in the club should know how to motivate him. He isn't like Daniel James who looks strong headed and willed. Has a lot of talents but handle with care.

Did his performance even warrant this sort of post?

What the bloody hell is actually going on in here ?

Yes, it warrants the first sentence.

The second one is just my opinion over the course of the years of watching him and looking at his body language on the pitch. I'm an expert at it.

No it doesn't. He got onto the pitch for about 7 to 8 of regular time with a performance that says nothing. Drawing any conclusion and especially coming up with these pre conceived so called short coming of Martial is ridiculous.

Some of you are going on essays talking about effort, body language, lows etc when this performance didn't indicate nor highlights any of those.

Truth of the matter is that Martial before getting injured was in fine form, and now has just came back and most of us are hoping he picks up where he left. These random arguments about his lows etc sound like something one has been holding for a while and just wanted to spout whatever chance they get even in disingenuous circumstances which is the case right now.

How to handle him with care exactly?

"To be expected of someone who just came back from injury." How is that a conclusion exactly? I didn't say He was playing bad nor good.

Of course He played for 7 to 8 mins, He just came back. The second paragraph in my post wasn't meant to talk about only one match but his entire time here. I'm pretty sure this thread was meant to talk about his performances in general, not only Anthony Martial vs Liverpool.

Yeah and I agree with this. What's your point?

Calm down. Christ. I wasn't even talking shite about him. If you want to call posters out, it is the previous pages you seek.

Thank feck he's back.

Anyone criticising his 7-8 minute cameo yesterday, given the state of play needs their heads checked. Some embarrassing posts here.

Will he be like Rooney, taking ages to "get back" to game rhythm, thus people shouldn't judge him until another 5-10 games or so?

How do you know? Did you ask him?

He’s been staying that he needed to manage Rashford better and rest him, was that all a cover story for letting him get a round of applause? Feckin ell some posters...

It’s quite obviously my opinion. On your stupid thought process you may as well disregard about 98% of what’s said on here because it’s the posters opinion.

It’s sort of what a football forum is about. You seem to be struggling with the simplicity of it.

fecking hell people. The fact that he was on the bench was a great sign because he's fit again. Give him a solid 30 minutes to an hour on Thursday then an hour to 75 mins over the weekend.

The best time for a player to run hard like a headless chicken is when they had just came back from a muscle injury.

Can't wait for him to get back up to speed, he was overall our best player in the first 3 games. He was pressing hard, holding up the ball well and scoring goals. It's like people have forgotten the start of the season already.

It's got nothing to do with Martial.

Our fans are frustrated & will target Rashford when Martial is on form or do the opposite and target martial when Rashford scores a goal or does things right.

Alot of the angry fans talk about how the whole fan base had begged for Rashford to play as a striker & how Lukaku should not have been sold because Rashford was overrated. They completely forgot that the player that most fans wanted to play as a striker was Martial and not Rashford & bypass that type of knowledge to badmouth any player they can.

It's perpetual scapegoating. There are many reasons for our poor form but Martial isn't one of them.

Partizan 0:1 Man Utd
Is he still injured or this is his post injury special? Had less touches than Rashford who came on for him in 60th minute. James was close too.

Off game and was off pace. His touch wasn't there either. Understandable he's rusty after being out for 2 months. The good thing is he got a goal which is always good for strikers.

Hopefully by Sunday he's much sharper.

Pretty much this, needs to get back up to speed.

Looked like he hasn't played in a year. Another 70 mins in the next would do him good.

At least Rashford works hard and runs around when playing poorly. When Tony isn't on his game he's a complete passenger like tonight. Needs to get up to speed fast.

Needs to play more from now on and even better if he plays alongside rashford and James. It'll help them develop an understanding of each other's game. Add pogba to the mix and we'll be looking like a half decent attack again

Far from a great performance but he took his penalty well. He seems really confident at them which is good to see.

I actually forgot he played until I did the ratings just then, even though he scored the pen.

The pen was decent anyway.

Doesn’t seem fit yet. Took a good pen. Glad to see him get a goal.

Looked very rusty. Hopefully its down to the fact that he has not played in a while. We really need him to be firing all cylinders to rescue the season.
