He made plenty of runs which were ignored mainly because Lingard as our attacking midfielder or 10 doesn't have a final pass in him or the quality to do so.

At time I saw Martial make the run and Lingers actually seeing him but not making the pass. Not because he was being selfish but simply didn't have the ability and confidence to make those passes. Funny enough even above average 10s do make those sort of passes almost routinely.

Just get rid of the stache man. Or at least grow a full beard. James Harden style.
He has one? It must not be visible then

Someone on here posted a hilarious post about challenging martial to smash it in.

There you go mate, he smashed it in.

Brilliant goal but should have scored one more. 2 in 2...hopefully that continues.

When you look at the things he’s doing in game with pressing, hold up and link up play he’s looking like the most complete forward we have had since RVP. Long way to go of course and he needs to score goals but he is doing all the right things.

Criminal the amount of runs he makes or spaces he creates that aren’t picked out.

Martial was also bringing players in as a target man. He always had that side to him when he first got here but didn't show it much again probably because he'd hardly play as a center forward.

His hold up play was pretty good albeit sloppy at times but I think that's mostly because of getting back used to playing as a 9 and team target man again.

Lingard was guilty of this a bunch of time. His lack of ability to roll in what should be a simple through ball for any above average 10s or attacking player was quite tragic.

Also Martial link up play was good too but we already knew about that. His link up play helped us try to break Wolves and even led to Pogba pen too.

Always found it weird that so many think/thought that he'd be far more useful out on the left. Get a 10 that can actually pass and we'll see a lot more from him.

Good tonight, much better than last week against Chelsea imo

Took his finish incredibly well, but his work off the ball has impressed me the most. New player. Give him service and he'll score goals.

Great to see him up front, he could start there for a long while. He's got plenty of quality.

He and Rashford are starting to form an understanding together. Took his goal very well, he looks good as a number 9.

We have failed not convincing eriksen or dybala and are now left with lingard for 6 months. Dont know what we did to deserve this but we need to find a solution before then. Im thinking we push pogba higher up by including fred. That way we have someone that can linkup better with Martial.

Not just lingard who missed his runs but wan bissaka countless times. With time the team will get better at raising their head to pick out his runs but for now we endure and suffer a bit more.

Pogba doesn't so well at number 10, if you want Pogba further up we'd have to switch to a 433 and him the moat advanced midfielder coming from the left side.

And yeah I saw AWB also ignore Martial's runs.

He's clearly been working on his movement in the box with Ole and he looks more agressive in his play, relishing the #9 spot and also showing some good hold-up play, I just hope it's not another false start and we see this Martial consistently throughout the season.

Really good to see him where he belongs, but I do worry for him being our only option there over 90 minutes. We can't not start him and Rashford, and I just don't really know what our plan is once the games start to pile up. We're so light for options up top, especially with Sanchez seemingly on his way out.

Could see the hunger and passion that's been absent for past 3 years. He feels like a new person brimming with confidence. Very well taken goal.

Looks like we have a proper #9 again...he was dancing and gliding past players in the first half and was threatening in the second half at times during a much tighter 45 mins.

Long may he continue his play. This is the Martial many were hoping to see on a consistent basis. His runs, dribbles, control, hold up play and link up was very good again.

A.M #9 I always said that he should play the central role even when Mourinho was here and I got laughed at.
I predict that Martial will win France the Euros next year and the following season he will reach the ballon d'or heights that's been talked about.

I love it. Not the joke about lack of signings, but it really do feel like we have a new player in the team. Hopefully he'll continue to improve. You could make the claim he has regressed, which doesn't really makes sense considering his profile, talent and age. It is time for him to reach his potential, finally. Good game from him.

Wonderful goal last night. Started the game poorly but then really turned it up a notch. Should have scored just before half time but I think he expected himself to get tackled and that kind of put him off. Was instrumental in us winning the penalty as well with a good little flick to Pogba.

Fantastic strike for his goal and nice flick to Pogba in the build-up to the penalty being awarded, but having watched numerous replays of his other two chances, he should have done better on both. The opportunity before half-time, he could have shot with his first touch as the keeper wasn't completely ready, or he could have gone past the keeper and tried to shoot from a tight angle. It didn't look like the defender touched the ball at all, just that Martial stumbled over it.

His movement for Rashford's cross was surprisingly good until the very last moment, when he didn't extend his leg; no idea what he was doing.

I'm hopeful he'll have a decent season as Solskjaer keeps going on about scoring tap-ins, so perhaps Anthony will improve this aspect of his game over the course of the season. Promising early signs regarding his work-rate.

Was about to say this. For the first time in a long time he looks like he really wants to succeed.

He's really started this season well, that's the least you'd expect from United #9 but don't get me wrong, he should and will improve further when the understanding inevitably improves between our front four.

What is frustrating is having to watch Lingard stink the place up 24/7. I know it's been said countless times but he offers next to nothing in build ups and as if that isn't enough, he ruins good moves as he doesn't trust his abilities (if any) to pick a pass and release runners, often choosing the safest pass.

We know what we get from Lingard and to some extent Mata in the hole, Ole should grow a set and throw Gomes into the deep end, we know he's got quality and creativity for progressive play, giving him the platform to see what he can do is better than '8-10 goals+assists a season' Lingard and would be to the betterment of our attacking play.

My only criticism of him so far is that he needs to commit more. He should have thrown any part of his body at that cross, and when he was almost through vs the keeper you could tell he was hesitant when he saw the tackle coming. If he wants to be a proper consistent 20+ goal striker he throws his body on the line and he scores at least one of those.

His running is the most improved thing for me. He is pressing well and making runs off the ball, I hope he doesn't get bored of it like he has in past seasons. We need to find him more but that will come with a decent number 10 or when Pogba isn't playing so deep.

It's the martial thread mate. Almost like nobody watches the game close enough to discuss anything other than the one big popular Twitter opinion

I thought he played well. He had the presence, held the ball well. Should have scored the second goal but it's a promising performance. He is showing how good it is to have a striker who is good on the ball.

Hopefully he will continue this run of form and also gets extended run of games as CF.

He wasn't very involved at the beginning of the game. However once he scored that goal you could see the confidence levels rise and he was brilliant for the rest of the half, easily the best player on the pitch. Second half he drifted out of the game a bit again, although what he did do was generally good.

Confidence is obviously such an important thing to him. When he's confident he's an absolutely brilliant player and tends to get involved more, and you can see where the early comparisons to Henry come from. Hopefully Ole cementing him as our #9 makes this the season it fully clicks and he takes the step up to pushing for the 'world class' label.

I like him at #9 much more than LW, he's a natural poacher. If we keep him in the Inzaghi role and tell him to stop drifting left he'll get 25-30 goals. Let Shaw, Rashford & Pogba handle the left side. Stay central Tony.

Only criticism is he should have scored more. Could have sealed the game before half time.
He was visibly annoyed when the half time whistle went for missing that chance, he'll keep improving that part. I think his touch was off to begin with, but once he got into the flow of things, his hold up play improved dramatically and start to carve out chances for himself a bit. I'm really excited for him this season :D.

He needs creativity behind him which he isn't going to get much with Lingard behind him. Pogba the most creative player in our team plays very deep. He basically has to mostly rely on Rashford to be able to feed him which he is actually able to do it when he's not making poor choices like this game(Rashford created 2 good chances for Martial).

So it's either getting anything from Rashford's side or bust for Martial most of the time because Lingard is useless in that aspect and Pogba has been put very deep to consistently affect our creativity going forward. Maybe we should throw Gomes in afterall, at least he seems to have a creative bone in him. Lingard is just tragic.

There were times when Lingard got the ball into space, made a turn and saw Martial make the run. As a viewer what was left to do seemed so simple, just slip in a through ball yet Lingard didn't have the confidence to do so and he opted for safer sideways passes or slow the play down and go backward with his passing. I'm just gonna hope Rashford carries today's mindset in most games where he isn't selfish and releases the ball when he sees someone else in space, because nothing will be happening from Lingard side and James isn't quite ready for this level and also lack end product. Maybe we should try Greenwood on that left side for now.

He was good last night. Complete confidence player and reminds me a bit of Rooney in terms of the LW/CF shite that occured with him. He looks comfortable in the middle and happy - keep him there.

So glad hes being played up top. I hated how LVG just shunned him out wide when Rooney got fit after he started up top for us, and scored and showed how ice cold his finishing is.

His movement and short bursts illustrate that hes not a winger or an attacker like Sterling, but somebody that should be in and around the box.

If anything, poaching has been a part of the game that desperately needed to improve.

Really pleased with how he's started the season. Cracking finish with his weaker foot too, he seems to have improved it massively considering the shot against Tottenham in pre season also.

The ONLY criticism I can find is he stumbled over the ball a few times, almost like his boots were too sticky  if only he managed to get it under control just before half time 2-0 would have been brilliant.

I really hope we can get an effective 10 to help him out

Fully agree with this, he's one of those players who'll have bursts of good form but we have to have a little patience when he's in his barren spells as history has shown us he is capable of delivering. I think in general he's looking a more rounded player, his movement and pressing are both coming along better. As a 9 he probably won't get to run at players as often but having him in front of goal more often with his finishing ability is the right way to go.
