Zlatan was great but at the same time he sapped the life out of all our other forwards, Rashford was better when Zlatan wasn't playing e.g that 2:0 win over Chelsea or the in Europa league late stages when Zlatan got injured, Martial brings more out of Rashford and Greenwood with his ability and willingness to link up creating a more fluid attack

It's part of the argument against getting someone like Kane. What we have has the potential to reach our 08 front 3. Add Sancho into the mix we would have a front line capable of challenging for everything.

Had a wonderful game. Only complaint i have for him is to pass the ball sometimes around the box. He beats like 5 people and takes a shot which usually skies. Instead in one of the attemps he could have let Greenwood in who was free in his right and we'd exteneded the lead. Hope Ole makes him realize that he can't do everything by himself.

Yeah but it was 2-1 so imo it's pretty understandable he went for it. Most strikers would go for it anyway. They're all a bit selfish, it's ok imo.

His first touch was just brilliant, defender just cleared the ball and it was about to go out, he had Southampton defender on him. His first touch was so good that he beat the defender with ease, not sure if it was great touch or lucky one, they didn't show the replay but it was great piece of play.

He is playing at very high level. I don't understand how anyone can watch that game and criticize him.
Agreed.

It was a big pleasure watching him yesterday. I've never seen him that driven and hungry than lately. This is his best version over the years with us. Ole has done a fantastic job. Imagine we still play Lukaku there ...

Yeah, might be unpopular opinion for few posters who always go with "Proven" thing but I wouldn't swap Martial with any CF in the league, at least if he keeps up this form.
Couldn't agree more, mate. Hopefully he starts getting the credit he deserves as he's been better than the likes of Aguero, Jesus, Kane, Firmino, etc this year.

I would only swap him with a younger Lewandowski. Martial is a good fit for our team, he is consistent and productive with us which is not easy to find.

Yeah, also he is sort of complete package. He is very good with hold up play, link up play, dribbling is very good, very good finisher and also good playmaker. Only thing he lacks is heading ability but it's not a big deal.

Well people still go on with cliches like not consistent, lazy.

The weird thing is that I'm under the impression that Jesus is wildly inconsistent, he seems to either be very good or very bad whenever I see him?

If he didn’t play yesterday, we would have lost. I think we are starting to see the final evolution to the world class player we always knew was in there. He’s gone from a mercurial talent with the ball at his feet only, to someone this season that started to keep things simple, use his pace, hold up the ball and be a much harder worker defensively. I did worry that he would lose some of that spark of brilliance as he was learning to become more efficient but last night everything clicked for me - he was all of those disciplined things he has learned and he also realised “we are not playing well, let me carry this team forward” and had the courage to use his individual talent in the right way.

Is playing very well. Very unlucky not to get another goal but he's looking strong right now.

He's even banged in a couple of headers this season as well but agreed, it probably is his weakest asset.

Yeah that goal vs Chelsea, even Drogba would have been proud of it. Class header but like you said that's his weak point.

His balance and strength is very good, so usually he comes away with possession more often than not.

He's very inconsistent, especially his finishing. I don't think I've seen anybody in the league miss good chances more than him.

I don't think you watch much football.

Edit: I'm an idiot.

But he doesn't seem to have that reputation in the media while someone like Martial who is very efficient has that reputation?

He also doesn't know what offside means. He is always offside.

Because Mancity won the league and many trophies, that's how it is. When your team is winning, everyone in the team is good enough and no one points out their mistakes.

I mean look at Liverpool, I didn't see anyone pointing out Firmino's pathetic record at home or his league record, instead people praise him for Mane and Salah's goal scoring record.

Didn't he pass the ball to rashford for the 1st goal? yesterday was one of the few times i have seen him being a bit selfish, most of the times he chooses to pass even though he should shoot.

The new 'selfishness' is part of a clear mentality shift which has made him the hungry player he is. He was always too selfless as a striker and generally has very good vision and awareness as shown by his assist and the other chance he created fof Rashford which was blocked by Bertrand. He will learn to get the balance right in time but him leaning on the selfish side is clearly part of his reform as a player - we should let it happen for the sake of his development because for me he's developing in to a scarily good player.

He's coming along nicely. Arguably being the best in the league since the restart.

His all-round game is of top caliber, and he is scoring plenty of goals. He would have well over 20 goals in the league and likely at least 30 goals in all competitions if he was taking penalties like other strikers do.

Exceptional form.

His dribbling and finishing is to be expected but his hold up play and pressing has been impressive - now he is the player we expected. If we can get this Martial on top of everything else we have going forward then we really are a frightening outfit.

As we say in France, appetite comes with eating. The more you start a player, the more he will want to start. The more a striker scores, the more he will want to score.

The criticism of his selfishness is not something that should be warranted just yet. If it continues in a couple of years time then I think it's fair but this is the only time since he first joined you that he has the hunger and drive to score with every opportunity he can get. Before he was clearly capable of doing so talent wise but for whatever reason he didn't have the same drive and hunger. To critique his selfishness is to critique everything that has managed to get him to 21 goals and 7 assists this season (Which is a super return). I've changed my mind on him a bit. I didn't think that he would be the guy to be your striker but it's clear now that in your system he is one of the few players that would work in it because he isn't a classic ST, he's a CF and that's what your system needs and thrives on.

I don't even think that he currently demonstrates any sort of selfishness, he often looks for his teammates in situations where many other attackers would shoot, not just strikers.

He has matched Lukaku's 16 goals and Ibrahimovic scored 17 goals.

Both he and Rashford have done really well.

Yep, for me he's one of our most selfless attackers post-Fergie era and his lack of shots compared to other attackers backs that up.

He isn't selfish player, in fact I would argue he is one of the most selfless CF in the league. Always picks the right option instead of just going for goal.

Yesterday he went for goal couple of times but that's normal for any striker.

I'm not necessarily saying he is selfish though, just that he displays it as does every other attacker and it's only warranted to critique it if it does end up being a problem. There were definitely times that he could have passed it to another player yesterday instead of shooting but of course every striker/attacker has selfish streaks.

The only glaring one for me was the one where he dribbled half the team from inside our own half... I wouldn't begrudge anyone a crack at goal after that because it would go down as one of the great goals if he managed a better shot.

People have so high standards for this boy, that not even Messi and Ronaldo would be good enough on here. Some of you are a joke to be honest. He was by far, by far, the best player on the pitch yesterday. Take him out, and we don't even draw that game. And some on here complain about a chance missed here or there. Unbelievable. I think you need to watch more football to actually know where to place Martial, because some of you have no clue how good he actually is. And he will become better.
Pretty much this.

I think some people seriously need to actually watch other games and league to see what's going and they'll realize martial is playing at a ridiculously high level. Maybe they should see your Suarez, Lewandoski miss chances in games to understand that missing chances happens for all strikers.

Martial has consistently been playing at a high level for a while now. I think this is where and when he's started to transition and make that step up to world class level. He's looking to end this season stronger and hopefully he carries this level into next season. He's definitely found his feet in this role as CF.

Martial did that last season too under Jose, he scored in 5 consecutive PL games.
Newcastle, Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth, City.
This stats is for consecutive home games. He actually hasn't scored way for a while now(Chelsea game is the last one I remember). He's been close and unlucky not having scored at Aston Villa and Tottenham is his latest away games.

Both he and Rashford have done really well.

Zlatan scored 2 penalties in 16/17 which means he got 15 from open play.

Lukaku scored 1 penalty in 17/18 which means he got 15 from open play.

Martial is our highest goalscorer from open play in a league season since RVP. Not bad for someone who according to many on here apparently isn't a striker.

Of course, and that's what I mean in regards to my initial post. He has the drive and hunger now to take on these chances whereas under Mourinho he definitely didn't so right now it's healthy.

I think Rashford absolutely loves playing with Martial and vice versa. With greenwood I think the the combination is just budding and not quite there yet. But over time I'm sure it will be just a good.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that Ole has encouraged him to be more selfish. In the end the best strikers are selfish. But it is important to know when to pass

Martial knows when to pass. I think why he shoots in those moments is because he thinks(and has proven) he can score from there

Wow, so we only had like 2 penalties or maybe 3 or 4 in the league that season? Compared to this season where we have something like 13 pens

It's nothing new but he does have a very exciting playstyle to watch. I've been really impressed with his drive and hunger, Solskjaer looks like the perfect manager for our young attackers. He's snuck his way to the top of my POTS list, slightly edging out Rashford.
