Anonymous, in typical Martial style. For all his good form, he goes missing when you need a striker to turn up and feed off scraps. He may have been carrying an injury but he was poor.

This is the weird thing about Martial. He can be anonymous and then pop up with a moment of brilliance, such as the Chelsea goal. But equally he can be invisible the entire game, like today. Love him on his day but I can’t trust him.

Utter shit today. When he has one of "those games" its like playing with 10 men.

Richarlison and Clavert-Lewin createad all sorts of trouble for us all game despite being bang average and Martial did the square root of feck all. Feck this talk of "no service". Hes not getting involved at all and thats 100% on him

I've had enough. Get rid of him this summer. We cant have a CF that only shows up half the time

This. Martial has more ability than DCL but if you were just looking at todays match, you would say DCL is a better striker.

Martial i get the feeling cannot push himself. he just does not have that will.

Poor game from him today. Calvert-Lewin was a menace on the other side of the pitch, yet Martial was largely invisible or ineffective.

The thing that really pisses me off is that he has too many of these games. At times he is very loose with his play, loosing balls with a poor touch when he is in tight space. He is physically very strong but rarely seems to engage in a physical battle. He also wants the ball at his feet too much, instead of trying to make a run in behind the defenders he is coming towards the ball and that just does not help.

The lack of options is frustrating, we absolutely need a physical striker in the next window along with a RW.

He's being played in Rashford's position, he's not as good or consistent in Rashford's role.

He is pathetic an absolute waste of space and we need to get rid as soon as possible .

There's no other big team in the world that would put up with lack of effort

Now he's had a run in the team we can do an assessment of the player. He just disappoints far too often imo. Don't believe he will ever show his full potential with us for some strange reason. Reckon its a mental issue! Swap him for Depay!

It seems like for martial to have a productive game, the team has to be playing well, where as a top striker like Aubameyang can still produce something even when arsenal are playing poorly.

Football fans really do have short memories. Only last week did he score the winner against Chelsea, and the equaliser away to Brugge in which we as a team were dreadful in both games.

He wasn't good enough today, but he's saved our behinds a fair few times this season when we've been poor.

I thought it was more a case of Martial being anonymous than him performing that poorly. In the 2nd half we played far too many long balls that simply got headed straight back, they typically won the next challenge, so we ended up facing wave after wave of Everton attacks.

He's a frustrating player but I think he's making progress as a central striker. He links the play quite well most games. Still needs to make more effort getting himself in position to score easy goals.

I don't think anyone would doubt his ability to score goals. The issue lots of people have is with, and quite rightfully, everything else he does, or doesn't do. Tevez, for example, was never particularly prolific for United but pretty much everyone (bar Fergie) was clamouring for us to sign him permanently. No one is expecting him to score every game, but he needs to add more to his game so that he isn't completely anonymous on the days he doesn't score.

He does end up scoring from time to time, but has too many spells of injuries or being ineffective and to a large extent absolutely invisible in games. I have always found his link play to be wanting and does routinely misplace passes in the final third.

But he’s not Tevez and never will be Tevez. We didn’t ask Ronaldo to run round like Tevez. It’s a tired excuse for Martial. Are we criticising Mason’s work ethic?

In my opinion, even in games where he hasn't scored he's still brought a lot to the team this season in terms of holding the ball up, bringing the rest of the team into play, and playing some nice passes to put other players through.

Unfortunately, today, he didn't do either. It's why I'd start him against Derby. Try and play him into some form because we can't keep relying on one player to do everything.

He should be the cover option from the bench for Rashford and whoever our new CF is.

He isn’t consistent enough to be the main man, but is a great squad option to ensure we won’t be without bench options to change the game like today.

It was just an example of what players can offer when they don't score. Also, Ronaldo? The guy had insane work ethic. He was constantly making runs, running into space, getting involved in all levels of play. Mason is 18. It's normal for him to be peripheral in games. Martial is approaching 25.

Completely invisible today. That's not good enough. Neither from Greenwood btw who was near and tidy in possession but was nowhere to be seen in dangerous positions.

He's one of the most divisive players I think we've ever had, but you can't argue his ability. He was poor today, but we didn't play to his strengths. DCL looked the better player because Everton played to his aerial ability all game, but if you're a team that's looking to build a title winning squad capable of fast, attacking and exciting one-touch football, then who here would swap Martial for DCL?

We need to play to his strengths, and likewise Ole needs to drill into him the importance of always being a threat in games. If he can improve his game in terms of making runs in behind and also in the penalty area, and we can create more moments for him to effect the game, then we'll see a different player.

Having said that, he's going to hit 20 goals this season after about 2 months out and playing in a squad that before Bruno was devoid of any creative spark.

You can't even rely on him for that. What's the point on having someone to change the game who might not even bother to move?

Why is it okay for Mason you just told me Ronaldo had amazing work ethic and was constantly making runs. Why can’t we expect the same from Mason?

Simply because we can’t replace everyone in such a short space of time. I would feel better with Martial and Greenwood waiting to come on, than I do with Mata and Ighalo, for example.

The squad would be stronger for it.

We changed Martial position in 2nd half and he put a shift in from left side. I don't know what Ole changed but First half everyone looked good including Martial and suddenly it was like people were struggling to complete pass. We didn't create a single good goal scoring opportunity whole of 2nd half.

He put a shift in? Honestly I thought Martial was average to poor in both halves. Pretty anonymous throughout and offered nothing. I was more confident in the 20 mins from Ighalo than the 88 from Martial.

Martial is not a player who can lead the line. The way we are set up he is up front on his own. It doesn't work with him. Put him up with a CF like Odion or Rashford then he is brilliant. If Ole had put Greenwood closer to him it would have worked better. You just cannot turn him into a CF who can play with his back to the goal. As a coach Ole has to get Martial to play to his strengths. That means getting the ball to his feet and facing the goal and a CF close to him.

Because Ronaldo was 18 when he joined us. He wasn’t the finished article right from the off, was he? He was 24 when he left, the same age as Martial now. I distinctly remember people at Old Trafford jeering him at Old Trafford because they found him frustrating, rightly or wrongly. I expect Greenwood to improve in terms of imposing himself on games. Is Martial going to do that at this point? Dunno, I want to live in a world in which he does.

I've been very disappointed in Martial for a few weeks now, despite him scoring a few goals. I don't think he's had a good game for a very long time. Rashford was playing much better and Rashford is younger. Martial should be playing at a higher level and he isn't. He wouldn't be part of my first choice attack next season.

Really needs to work on his movement.

He did put a shift in. I remember even commentators were praising him saying that things are not happening for him but he is working hard today.

I guess with Martial, people just see what they want to see.

Eh? We saw what we saw. Flat footed, unable to make an impact and ultimately subbed off for a left back when we needed a goal.
